I'm 46 and always "aspired" to run a marathon. But I've been mountain biking for over 20 years and now "aspire" to finish a Leadville 100 race. I'll do it before I'm 50.....

this video was really well done. thanks for making this. i really wanted to see what my son went through on this, and now he is even more of a beast that i had imagined. hanging around the twin lakes feed zone near highway 84 doesn't help appreciate the unrelenting climbs and the stress on the descents with riders walking their bikes up and being forced into less than desirable paths through rock gardens. amazing how doing a dirt everest a few weeks before the leadville race, and three everests on your road bike last year, comes in handy for all the climbing and descending. cheers, big ears!

West Coast(ish) Technical - "watch out for those ruts!"
East Coast Technical - "OK. So just take like, ALL the trees in this video - Knock them down and lay them across the trail. Now fill in the gaps with rocks (preferably sharp). You can ramp the really big logs, but only from 1 side (either front OR back, NOT both). Sweet, now you've got a moderately techy beginners trail!" :p

TRUTH. As an east coast guy (NC) I watch these vids and think meh, not so hard. I really DO know they are just as hard as our stuff (Pisgah), but I still snicker when they say "technical" in all of them except the BC Bike Race.

9:29 Only 20 miles left... how bad can it be? Bad enough that I spent about 2 hours getting up that monster.

Just ordered your 12L pack for hiking, MTBing, and skiing. So pumped to get it! I live in Frisco, CO down the road from PbVille. You guys should link up with Melanzana there to help sell your gear.

Is it any more technical than what you showed in this video? Looks like it's pretty much just gravel and dirt roads.

not crazy technical, but there are several places where you are descending and others are walking their bike up a climb, taking away the best line and forcing you into deep rock gardens at fairly high speeds, so super technical? no. pretty technical? yes. avoiding flats is a technical skill in and of itself. of course, there is also the fact that the race happens between 10,000' and 12,000'....... i guess that is an aerobic skill instead of technical, but still........

40 mile 4 hour cutoff??????? so you gotta average 10 MPH the first 40 miles at least, I kinda like to start slow and kick in when its half over, thats when I hit the jets, well at least I did that when I trained for my 10K run. my last 2 miles were my fastest.

That has to be the ugliest helmet I have seriously every seen somebody wear... I can't even comprehend how people would choose to wear that thing. And no I'm not talking about the green smith forefront, the other ski helmet thing haha
