There are several aspects to this decision
1. The new management is taking over under GG and he has clearly mentioned he is seeing new talent taking over th e shortest format and wants the seniors to focus on one.day and test match. So even if they hadn’t taken the decision to retire from t20. They would have been dropped. It’s a win win situation for all
There are many players in t20 format who are barging on the door of selection. If the selectors don’t give them fair chance then it’s a waste of talent. And the selectors know it so they would have dropped these two to try out the new talent. Better to retire at top than to be dropped out.
2. You said abt players running after leagues. BCCI doesn’t allows its players to play other leagues. They pay them handsomely in domestic structure.
3. If Rohit and Kohli and Jadeja continue to play test for next 5-7 years retiring from odi also in coming 1-2 years then I will have immense respect for them. Test is the pinnacle of cricket and most of new gen players are shying away from it.
