- During the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, I have filmed the Charge Cars, a London-based technology startup, has reimagined the classic 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback into a luxury electric vehicle, by combining a classic design with EV tech.
Charge Cars has replaced the Mustang’s combustion engine with a 536 horsepower electric motor that has a torque output of 5,532 pound-feet. With that much power, cars can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96.5 kmh) in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 149 mph (239 kmh). With its 62 kWh battery pack, which can be charged from 20 percent to 80 percent in an hour, the new electric Mustang has a range of 200 miles (322 km).
Charge Cars’ Electric Mustang is now available for reservation for $80,000 more than the original price, at a starting price of $460,000.

Compare it to the electric embarrassment that ford released as the “electric” Mach E Mustang. How can an English company create a more authentic electric mustang than Ford?
To everyone saying the ruined a Mustang by remobing the motor - you have no clue about this car. They did not use an original Mustang and gut it. They built it from the ground up - even the body (which they streamlined a tad to make it more sleek and, in my option, better frankly). So this is not a restored car with an new engine dropped in.

I would do unforgivable things to have this
You could build the same for far less money and better looking without these stupid rear view mirrors and door handles. You can get a brand enw mustang body reproduction for 16k, then buy the fenders and grill and lights for another 2000-3000$, all the windows for probably 2000$ if not less, a wrecked tesla for 30k, build the interior custom or just buy reproduction parts of the oroginal one, all the trim probably another 3000 and then building the car and you’d be well under the 250k this car goes for
@@simonw2631 I mean yes you could prob build this for like 100-150k , but there is not many people who could single handidly build this themselves , and if you pay for a company to build it for you then it would cost more , so at the end of the day it would not be that much cheaper

I am a big petrol head and my favourite car is a 67 fastback mustang. It’s so strange to see the car an not have that beautifully iconic V8 soundtrack. It’s almost frustrating when the car flys by and there’s no rumble of thunder after it. The sound is half the soul of the car in my opinion.
However I think this silent electric version is beautiful and I’m so glad they didn’t try and modernise the stunning 60’s look, And I think by making it fully electric it will save that styling and preserve the iconic look of the classic mustang. It will never beat or replace the old school feel and soundtrack, that makes up the true soul of a mustang but it is most definitely the right way to go. Bringing new renewable efficient energy saving technology with that jaw dropping muscle car look. It’s the way Ford should have gone with electric cars rather than, in my opinion, ruining the mustang brand with a 4 door electric suv. No doubt the E-Mac has its place in the world but just remove the stallion emblem and replace with the Ford badge. Leave the galloping horse badge for cars like this Charge Mustang. Beautiful and impressive, well done charge cars.
So quiet. Dude imagine driving this at night, with the lights all turned off. You'll be practically invisible on the road, however you'll also increase your chances of death as well. Other than that, this electric car is pretty sick.

Because we live in the age of idiocracy. People ruin classics because 'electric is faster and cheaper'.
I didn't buy my classic for its power or its cheap maintainence. I bought it for its character, like everyone else.
Nothing has been swapped, it is a pure electric car made to look like a classic.

@@ricardodaniel6939 meu deus cara, porque vçs odeiam tanto os motores elétricos? Só por causa que não tem um barulho de um motor a combustão? É isso? Instalar um v8 de 1000 cavalos daria muito trabalho além de custa muito e não ter tanta eficiência quanto a um motor elétrico, já o motor elétrico, colocando 4 motores elétricos um em cada roda, cada um tendo 300 cavalos, já resolveria o problema, além do mais tem uma rotação que supera os 20.000rpm já os motores v8 atingem em média 7, 8.000rpm e isso estourando!

It's an interesting concept. But the lack of that V8 roar just feels so wrong. I'd have to install fake engine sounds, if I ever bought one of these Charge Mustang's.

I mean it looks good and i would certainly like an electric classic mustang, i would never convert an original to it tho but thats not what was done here. But what i would donis leave the outside to look like an original mustang bcs the lack of chrome kills me and the rear view mirrors are absolutely horrendous aswell as the door handles

They are brand new body's not modified old cars.
These are all brand new cars, nothing is original. These are made from carbon fibre and Ford actually provided original tooling for them to use to make the 499 new Bodies.
I'm not going mathematical here but I think 535 HP is more power than the original my old man, stop crying about progress and just eat your oats.
