I'm much older (40), but I still don't know what I want to do with myself! I call myself an eclectic house witch, but I go through spurts of not practicing much at all, to being fully engaged. It's always nice to find fellow witches and I wish you so much luck. 💚

The only thing that keeps me in my 9-5 is the benefits - retirement, paid time off…. I know if I had my own business, I’d lose all of that. When I used to feel a lack of fulfillment, my therapist used to tell me that a day job is there to fund your basic life needs and passions. So now I just look at it that way- I can still volunteer or do something on the side. Then I don’t have the pressure of making money from my passions and can just enjoy them as I please.
I commend you and wish you the best of luck!!! ❤

I am 33 now and I’ve actually just started going back to school for nursing! I’m so tired of doing the same dealing with customer/sales shit over and over. I want to help people but I’ve decided to follow in my grandmothers footsteps and become a nurse. Customer service stuff just isn’t for me, honestly it’s awful. I know being a nurse won’t be easy but I think the pros outweigh the cons for me. Having a job that actually provides me with pay that I can live on..and have health benefits and a retirement future..also nurses have soo many different fields they can work in, they aren’t limited to a narrow scope of a work environment. They can even do remote work! I think starting over and going back to school is going to be life changing for me. I’m glad you are pursuing your dreams! It’s never too late to change a career path, no matter how stuck we may feel! Go for it, give it your all! And I hope the best for you in your future endeavors! We all deserve to live our lives with purpose and passion, and we can’t let anything hold us back!

A lot of this resonated with me, but i do have a few thoughts… I feel unfulfilled in my 9-5 corporate job. But my “dream” is to be able to fund the life I want to live and be comfortable in retirement. My corporate job does that, even if I don’t always feel creatively fulfilled. Work doesn’t need to be a vocation. It can just be a way to make money. And that’s okay - and freeing! I’m trying to decentralize work and view it as a way to fund life and not a cornerstone of my personality. I’m happy for you and I wish you all the best! Looking forward to seeing where you take this.

I love that for you! It can be so refreshing in a way to separate the idea that work has to be some kind of soul path and can just be a part of a multifaceted life.

As someone who has been consuming beauty content on youtube since basically the very beginning, I'm really enjoying finding smaller, niche beauty RUclipsrs like you that have other interests, some that naturally feed into beauty content. Like every other person on the planet, I'm multifaceted and enjoy creators that build spaces that can encompass different parts of themselves. I'm relatively new to your channel but have so loved winding down to your videos while doing my own makeup or skincare. I resonate with your message of slowing down, and finding magic in the small things that bring spark to our lives.
Regarding work, I too always thought I would specialize in something specific, but have always had jobs that allow me to be a generalist in that I have to rely on many different skillsets, depending on the day (currently I manage an academic program at a university). While I always strive to do my job with integrity, I refuse to attach my worth to my output or productivity.
I look forward to seeing what this time of creative experimentation and transformation will bring forth for you.🌱

      @evangelinemolly  3 месяца назад

I love the way you put that! And it means a lot to hear my message is getting across because I do think beauty in and of itself is so multifaceted. It’s also great to hear of other people finding ways to slow down. It’s so necessary these days and we have to unlearn this idea of our value being attached to what work we do, like you said! 💗

Evangeline, I feel like you are my witchy sister! I went through a very, very similar journey only a few years ago. I was also determined to find "The One" job that would almost help define me as a person. But working for other people... I agree with everything you said. I'm a highly-sensitive person with a chronic illness and the 9-5 grind was merciless. I was also a creative child growing up - I wanted to try a bit of everything (making me a master of none!), which meant I was always clueless on what my actual profession could be. I ended up in marketing doing graphic design for nonprofits and small businesses - but a chance Instagram post of someone who had made their own candle sparked something in me. (It's always those chance virtual encounters, isn't it??) My HSP-ness + my design background + my witchy inclinations somehow melded into something magical in me, and now I run my own business with my sister called Phantom Row! I'm currently in my studio now as we are working to open our little shop this fall

I'm 28 years old and although I know what I want to dedicate myself to, I’m a French teacher, sometimes I need that slow life. Lately I have the feeling that studying the opposition to have my job is taking away all my energy, so I decided that this summer I will rest from studying. And right now I’m enjoying my passions: spending time with my cats and reading books, going to breakfast with friends, doing some sport when the sun goes down, resuming make-up courses and also sealing workshops. So we all need a break and try new things. I have a plan, b and c in case the teacher thing doesn’t work out at last, although I love it. And for me it is important to have the support of friends and my fiancé, and as I have it I go much more relaxed. It’s like having a net at the end of the cliff.

INFP and fiction writer here, and I relate to a lot of what you’re talking about! I did my MFA in creative writing, and for anyone who doesn’t know, a fully-funded MFA program is largely this - 2 or 3 years where you are paid to focus (almost) exclusively on your own writing projects. In Canada, there’s UBC, but many more of these programs exist in the US (they accept and fund students from all over the world). While an MFA is a “within the system” approach, it has been one of the most valuable experiences of my life. Just plugging this because a lot of creative people who are trapped doing other people’s work do not know that this exists as a possibility. (All that said, I have to stress: I do *not* recommend paying tuition for an MFA unless you can *very* comfortably afford it! Fully-funded programs are ones that pay you a salary through a combination of scholarships and teaching gigs)

Evangeline... when I tell you that every single thing you said resonated with me in my *bones.* This is my own story too! Except replace service jobs with unpaid "internships" and freelance art studio assisting. I'm a 32-year-old filmmaker and I spent so much of my life wondering if something was wrong with me why I physically could not do a 9-5 because all of my friends had them. Despite the jobs themselves being soul-killing, I was weirdly jealous because they didn't need to *think* or *plan*... they could just turn up to work and clock out eventually and follow the well-trodden road laid out for them. But it's exactly as you said - we're all going to die one day, and I want to spend my life making art I feel moved to create and having a really good time while I do it. Now, I'm graduating from my dream film school this weekend (!!!!). I'm terrified because I have no idea what will come next, but I'm gonna give it my all - in both film and YT - and make whatever I feel moved to make, with whatever budget I need to work with. AND I'm finally getting around to editing the 2 years' worth of videos into film school vlogs on my channel 😂 We're on this path together it seems! Cheers to joy 🥰✨🍀 x

I'm new to your channel and making my way through your videos. I'm grateful that we share this intersection of love for beauty and witchcraft, our age, and being INFJ. Your content is refreshing for me to watch for those common interests. So naturally, I was really curious about what you had to say, and I wish you nothing but the best on your endeavors. Because you asked to leave our experiences in the comments:
For context - I have been consuming beauty content since 2010, practicing tarot and astrology since 2013, practicing witchcraft since 2015, and started an art business in 2016. I tried quitting my job and going full time with my business 3 times from 2019-2021 and failed, but my passion persisted. It wasn't until 2022 that everything changed and I've been stuck since. There was a burglary at my storage unit where I kept my art merchandise, and I had so, so much stolen from me. Later that year inflation was on the rise, and my sales went down drastically unlike ever before. This was the hardest hit I have taken since I started my business, and I'm struggling to recover and even find meaning in it all.
I very much relate to the "jealousy" thing currently, so it's nice to hear I'm not alone since I've felt so guilty about it. I am currently in EMDR trauma therapy trying to make peace with that theft and overcome it. I took Lindsay Mack's Heart of Service course last year and learned about seasons of life and business, being somewhere between a death and rebirth. I've been in this liminal space now for over 2 years. I turned to beauty and color over this last year after feeling so much apathy. It's the only creative outlet I have left and I don't want to monetize it. What I have left of my art has just been sitting in my closet as I am directionless (and jaded) about what to do next.
I didn't post this to complain, just to share about my journey so far. I'm really glad I decided to watch this video. I'm inspired to try to do a tarot spread to address some of these things. I hope you make more content like this in the future, and I hope your success takes off sooner than later!

Sometimes life is just relentless isn’t it? I so so applaud you for following your dreams and really hope you find your way forward with your art in time. Sometimes we need a break from it though. Being an entrepreneur is tough work! Creative people need time to recharge and reset and it sounds like you’re on the perfect path for that right now. Love that beauty and color has brought you some spark! Do you still have your art business online? I would love to check it out if you have a website or socials!

I resonate with everything you touch on here. (Fellow INFJ) as well!) my work in the world is natural perfumery which is creative and entrepreneurial as well as inherently bonded with the cycles of nature - all of which have up sides and down sides. Because I only work with naturals and I am the only person creating my work it binds me to a stigma that my entire being in life is only natural. Funnily enough I mostly am, except when it comes to makeup! I feel like it’s not something I can be seen engaging in (I keep it very separate from my work) because it will discredit my ethos or brand image because I am purchasing and using commercial brands and potentially less than ideal ingredients.
There’s so much shame surrounding makeup and beauty - like you said, the perception of capitalism, self indulgence, vanity, superfluous behavior or time wasting …. So much judgement! I keep to myself about it and enjoy those I can connect with online. But sometimes it makes me feel guilty or secretive, or just like I am not integrated or aligned.
My husband reminds me often that I am just an artist and my work in the world is to make art and make beauty and I’d do it no matter what medium you gave me, so the piece you’re saying about the deep authenticity rings true for me.
Any way a long way of saying thank you for sharing and I am here to click all the thumbs ups for you !!! I NEED creators like you in my life as I often play the videos while I bottle and label, and I am so grateful for a calm voice, thoughtful approach, and of course, passion for beauty. 💛

Thank you Evangeline ❤ This really connected with me, I think I needed to hear someone say out loud some of the stuff I was feeling for them to actually slot together and not making me feel freaked out constantly. It’s ok to have so many passions and interests, to be everyone at once and still being yourself. It doesn’t mean I am undecided it means I’m more, that I want more and that’s ok, because everyone is different and it’s beautiful. But to be honest I’ve been feeling disconnected lately, about a year ago I lost someone I thought I’ll be with for the rest of my life and it really hit hard, I lost myself so much that getting in touch with my core, with my spark was suddenly impossible, like all the energy left me. My magic left me for quite some time. Now, I’m slowly starting to feel again, to understand myself better, to create my own path for myself and no one else. In the last couple weeks your energy really touched me, connected with me, listening to you makes me feel better, so thank you for creating this space and sharing your magic, it really means a lot 🥹🖤

Feelin' it. Been through a lot of this myself, and while I've had a few FT jobs, early on I found my sanity preferred several PT jobs that were different from each other, so I could have a break from each particular mindset. When you have a lot of talents it can be difficult to find a focus, but I'm comfortable doing steady work/apprenticeship as opportunities allow, and now I'm really good at several things. Oh, INTP here, and finding my "type" really changed my life. Suddenly I understood why/where my boundaries needed to be, the why of some of my worst faults (and how to correct them), and how to manage my energy much better.

It's such a helpful thing to learn about oneself. So glad you've been able to find the balance you needed in your life. It's honestly wild to think about committing to a single thing/job for one's entire life. It's not natural.

I resonate so deeply. 2 things- I think you would really appreciate reading The Future Is Disabled- Leah Lakshmi talks about the lesson disabled folx find quickly which is that we HAVE to slow down. We have to listen to our bodies. And it talks about this within the context of covid too. And 2nd, I think you would love Mintfaery! They're a witchy content creator. Do you know of them? Anyways. I appreciate you and I got a lot from this video. ❤

Thank you for both of these recommendations, I haven't heard of that book or creator! It sounds like they would both resonate with me. I love that lots of people are talking more about slowing down because this is unsustainable.

I just had a thought. As someone living in the US, leaving my 9-5 sounds IMPOSSIBLE because I need health insurance. If I paid out of pocket, it would be insanely expensive - like over $1000 per month for my family. Is it less of a concern in Canada because of universal health care?

Wow, that’s so true. This is something as a Canadian that I forget about. There is universal healthcare here so that’s not an issue for me in leaving my job. It’s so messed up because it’s more likely people will be stuck in jobs they hate to maintain that very crucial security 😢
