    I always use the juice from the beans, and keep the fat from the meat, as long as it is not too much. I used to use only the cheap stuff and I realized how greasy it was because of all of the fat. Now I get a better quality and there is hardly ever any grease, and what there is though is just fine.

    satisfying than looking down after lunch and seeing nothing but a table.

      Ive heard of adding coffee. And also powdered cocoa. Ive never done either one but I can see how it would add to the taste. I just made something similar this weekend with ground chicken, cans of tomatoes and cans of white beans, lots of onion, chili powder, etc. As other people have said, you pretty much can't screw up chili. Just some sort of tomato base, ground meat, spices, mix them all up and eat!

    • @sparkyjones560
      @sparkyjones560 6 лет назад +2

      The right word was browning. With a roast or steak it would be searing which would cause carmelization. With ground beef it's "browning" since you aren't able to sear it due to the fat content and the fact that it's ground up.

      @@ardencarpenter3157 no it's not all about me, but everyone has there own preferences to what they like in their chili, I just don't like how beans make me feel after eating them and the seasoning packets you don't have any control over the amount of spices that are in them and I prefer a really lean chili, because I use deer or bison meat in my chili and after having a pacemaker put in it makes you rethink what you put in your body.

    Thanks for your video. Very good for people who like to cook Chili. You asked if there was a recommendation. I wanted to see the finished meal in a dish and ready to eat. That is all. Take care!

    Draining processed canned beans lol? Lol...that's like marinating steak and washing it afterwards. The liquid in canned beans is water, added salt and the starches from the beans. Do yall washed the syrup off canned pineapples, stained canned tomatoes, and wash your steaks with soap too? Some things like baking poultry should be washed and washing fresh produce produce

    • @KatieG8tor
      @KatieG8tor  2 года назад +2

      I normally cook on low all day. Since everything is technically “cooked” already you’re just letting it all marry together and get the flavors of everything. Just use your judgment on how long you want. You can even just put it all in a pot on the stove for about 30 minutes.

      The only two ingredients in brown sugar are molasses and white sugar. Read the ingredients on the bag. Never buy brown sugar just make your own. Store in a ziplock bag. So if you're adding white sugar, add a teaspoon of molasses and poof, you have brown sugar.

    I love the critics. My answer to them would be where is their video? I do mine the same way that you do except the crockpot. I use a cast iron skillet and 80/20 ground beef, serve it with cornbread and I don't drain the grease. Go Gators...

    Do you top it off at the end when it's all done with the layer of cheese or no

    • @KatieG8tor
      @KatieG8tor  3 года назад

      You can add whatever you want. I sprinkle a little sharp cheddar on the top. Sometimes the kids use goldfish crackers instead of saltines. Or if we don’t have crackers I’ll make grilled cheese. When my husband takes it to work as leftovers he will take a potato and microwave it and kinda open it or mash it up a little and pour the chili over it and add a little cheese and sour cream. There’s no right or wrong way.

    To clarify, not browning the meat may cause a foodborne illness known as E. coli O157:H7. Moreover, the heat index making contact with the protein greatly reduces the probability of becoming infected with E coli.

      You can put raw ground beef into a slow cooker, and it will be perfectly safe after cooking on low (about 200 F) for 6 to 8 hrs.

      alyssa nowak since everything is cooked before you add it to the crockpot 3 hours is fine. You’re basically just heating it all together to marry the flavors together. It will taste fine.
