Thank you for a simple and great way to make chili. Only thing I would do different is cook the meat with a bunch of onion, (my favorite thing is onions and more onions!!!!!). Thanks Katie!
This was really good thank you! I did this today with 2 pounds of ground beef, 1 extra can of diced tomatoes, and 1 extra can of beans. I also seasoned my beef with chili, onion, and garlic powder.
That's interesting about adding sugar. I learned on a cooking show years ago to add a little butter when using tomatoes for the same reason, so I have been doing that for many years. Thank you for the video.
Today was my first time making chili and I used your recipe I just added impossible meat onions minced garlic red peppers and chili seasoning and it was great... Thanks
I made this tonight and absolutely loved it. I made it on the stovetop and let it simmer for an hour, So easy to make and very tasty. Thank you for sharing.
Looks good. One thing I do is carmelize my onions and bell peppers and add them at the last thirty minutes or so. The extra flavor it adds is delicious.
The reason to brown your meat first is the texture and a flavor difference. Also the ground meat will brown better if you put less into the pan at one time.

You don’t have to add 2. I just made a bigger batch. It just makes it have more of a chili flavor. You can always add 1 or 1 1/2 and see if it’s fine for your taste.
you brown the meat so that it gets nice caramelization on the meat .. I know caramelization is the wrong term, but it adds flavor. malliard, malliard reaction, browning of meat.
The right word was browning. With a roast or steak it would be searing which would cause carmelization. With ground beef it's "browning" since you aren't able to sear it due to the fat content and the fact that it's ground up.
@@nunyabizz8076 no you don't have to. The ground beef be grey and squishy though and it won't add the "fried" hamburger like flavor to the chilli if you don't do it.
Onions is my thing. I definitely would add a well chopped onion or two (depending on size) to the meat mixture before adding to the ingredients already in the pot.

I substitute Manwich for half of the tomato sauce, double up on the cumin, chili powder and garlic powder, add diced jalepeno and what ever veggies I have around.
I'll keep making my own chili without the beans, ground deer meat, sauteed onions in olive oil then put in Crock-Pot and add diced tomatoes, diced sweet peppers, tomato sauce, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder and smoked paprika, salt and pepper and after 8 hours on low in the Crock-Pot it's ready, but better the next day after it's set in the fridge so everything soaks in together.

You can put raw ground beef into a slow cooker, and it will be perfectly safe after cooking on low (about 200 F) for 6 to 8 hrs.
Needs vegetables. Onions, peppers, fresh garlic, carrots, squash, zucchini, some flavor to add to make it over the top. Good base tho.
