The great Fred Willard was being interviewed by Linehan when he suddenly stopped and said " You're the guy Marty does!" He didn't know the Brock character was based on a real person.
The amazing thing about SCTV is how well they make “old” films. The faded 60s color, the 50s black and white, and the sound are so authentic. Watch _The Last Polka, Six Gun Justice,_ the clips from _Sammy Maudlin’s 23rd Anniversary Show,_ or the documentary about Bobby Bitman’s One Millionth Performance. They created “old films” better than most film studios.
And 70 years since 1954. It reminds me Happy Days. It took place in the late 50's and into the early 60's and was filmed in the mid 70's, just around 15 years later. Yet, it's been half a century since the show itself was made.
I have several seasons of SCTV on DVD which I hadn’t watched in a great while. I did so not long ago, and it is amazing how the humor holds up after so many years. It’s questionable if Rusty is actually timeless, but SCTV certainly is.
I bet The Venture Brothers show borrowed from this Rusty to create their Rusty. Thanks for the upload! I have not seen many of the later episodes so its new to watch!
Where was Mr. Wilson? Now that I’m 70 I’m disappointed not to have a neighbor like Dennis. Though he’d probably steal my pot plants. We named our kids Henry and Alice. Later I realized that those were the first names of the Mitchells.
This is a play on an amalgam of Child TV actors. My grandmother lived across the street from Tommy Rettig's mom, Rose, in the 1970s when she moved to Reno, NV. She was battling cancer and Tommy, then in his 30s, was bringing his mom bags of weed to combat the nausea associated with her chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
*Almost everything SCTV did **_almost 50-years ago_** is STILL funnier than today's SNL.* Rusty's clearly Short's inspiration for his and Charles Grodin's surprising cult film, "Clifford." *(Also, where can I get a copy of "Halfway There, But For You?")* 😅
Wow missed this hilarious "Oh That's Rusty" at air time, and reruns and 30 years of internet, til now anyway. So much for living in a northern town with only CBC back in ancient times. Is SCTV streaming somewhere these days, other than here in clips.
Besides your SCTV work check out a movie called club Paradise. A lot of SCTV people are in it written by the guys it did caddyshack everyone is funny and it she's hilarious
The character "Brock Linahan" is actually a parody of the Canadian TV interviewer Brian Linehan (1944-2004).
Didn't know that.
Both were Canadian treasures.
The great Fred Willard was being interviewed by Linehan when he suddenly stopped and said " You're the guy Marty does!"
He didn't know the Brock character was based on a real person.
You’ve really done your homework! 😉
Who?
"What did they give you, an estimate?", was actually a funny line.😂
I was going to say that too. 😂 ❤
So funny!
Eugene Levy's range is breathtaking.
Everyone on that show had a wide comedic range.
"Al's Used Fruit" !
That kid doesn't get enough credit - hes hilarious!! His crossed eyed looking freeze frame always killed me.

Love SCTV. So much talent coming together like this is fate.
Maybe the best use of a television studio ever.
The opening with that kid was HILARIOUS!!
He reminded me of a child age Rick Moranis!
@@kurancy Yes and that is part of what made the child skit FUNNY! But the Kid's zingers to the mom cracked me up.
"What did they give you, an estimate?" HAHA!!
@@bobtillman5769 Groucho couldn't have made a better zinger!! LOL.
The kids really delivered, though. I wonder what other work he's done.
29 years passed between 1954 and when this SCTV episode aired. Since this episode aired and now, 40 years 🤯 👴
Wild!
And Rusty is still going strong!
And 70 years since 1954. It reminds me Happy Days. It took place in the late 50's and into the early 60's and was filmed in the mid 70's, just around 15 years later. Yet, it's been half a century since the show itself was made.
I love the subtle stuff, like he has to look at the cue card twice to deliver the line "well Dad, you said threw"
Good catch! 😂
That young man was amazing. Hope he stayed in acting. Mr. Short is beyond compliment. His characters are real. Thanks for sharing.
SCTV is the greatest comedy to ever air.
One of my favorite sketches!
and amusingly, Martin Short at 40 years old, would later play a 10yo boy, in Clifford.
An unblinking, eyebrow-less Martin Short really kind of gives off Rob Schneider vibes. It's unsettling.
My cousin and me have been laughing over the “f&$k the little girl! “ line for many, many years 😂😂😂
I still say "bad tooth smell" to this day
Oh to have one ounce of Martin Short's energy.
This must be where Mr Show got the idea for Josh Fenderman
SCTV was great!
i sincerely wish i could have had the opportunity to meet each and every cast member of SCTV

Smart funny comedy writing will always be timeless
Marty is such an amazing mind. So entertaining.
I remember how weird I thought this was. Then Urkel came along and literally got too big for his britches at the end.
Prophetic!
Is this not a foreshadow of that? Incredible. Key and Peele do a great bit about Urkel.
It's kind of LIKE Leave it To Beaver with Jerry Mathis growing into a chubby teenager.
I never saw this before. It is precious 40 years later!
From the one year they were on Cinemax after the NBC show
I bet The Venture Brothers show borrowed from this Rusty to create their Rusty. Thanks for the upload! I have not seen many of the later episodes so its new to watch!
You might be on to something. Brock is the name of the interviewer.
The feathers in a room being painted was actually an I Love Lucy bit.
Freakin GOLD!!!
SCTV is the best.
That kid hitting all of his marks !!!
can't believe I missed this
Brock not blinking the entire. Lil creepy.
brock never blinks his eyes!
And one of Rusty's later career highlights: playing Austin Powers!
"Oh Rusty" was one of my favorite shows growing up in the 50s.🤣
That kid was hysterical. He really should’ve had his own show.
Lil rusty was a deranged dennis the menace version. 😂
there was actually a British version of Dennis The Menace that was made and it was alot more edgy
Or he could even be thought of as a "Rusty Venture, the Lost Live Episodes".
Just an idea. 😉
Where was Mr. Wilson? Now that I’m 70 I’m disappointed not to have a neighbor like Dennis. Though he’d probably steal my pot plants.
We named our kids Henry and Alice. Later I realized that those were the first names of the Mitchells.
AS Guy Caballero would say "Dennis Who?? Never heard of him!"
When Donald was Donnie
I need to see Rusty shoplifting!🙏🙏🙏

that kid is genius; must be related to the flamboyant kid from Curb Your Enthusiasm
Well done! :-)
Mami Van Doren!!!!.... give me that moment again. people were not supposed to be this funny back then.
A bad tooth smell???😭🤣😭
😂
*Almost everything SCTV did **_almost 50-years ago_** is STILL funnier than today's SNL.*

*(Also, where can I get a copy of "Halfway There, But For You?")* 😅
What Billy Mumy and Ron Howard aspired to! 😮. 🤓😎✌🏼
This is hysterical 😅
this is so genius on so many different levels
I rejoiced when Rusty had to deal with someone his own size. His new father made Short work of him..
(boo) ;)
Great stuff
They even got the real Brian Linehan's face mole right.
Wow missed this hilarious "Oh That's Rusty" at air time, and reruns and 30 years of internet, til now anyway. So much for living in a northern town with only CBC back in ancient times. Is SCTV streaming somewhere these days, other than here in clips.
Casually eating oysters on the half shell, haha.
Definitely the old days. Now she’d yell at the teacher and complain to the principal who would side with her.
😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤remember this well😅
"29th season"!
Subtle art like this is gone.
Clifford!
LOL, I was just thinking I was the only one to point that out.
Even though he is highly critically acclaimed Martin Short is still underrated. He’s just a gem.
Still playing Rusty at eight...good work if you can get it!
Best show ever. Best cast ever. Light years better than SNL.
I’d like to know how many hours of content they were cranking out per week at their TV peak. More than one for sure.
This makes me wanna rewatch Clifford
Andrea Martin masterfully plays a pickle.
Edith Prickley
Brilliant. But if you like this, watch Brock interview Bob Hope!
“Schlamozzle” 😂😂😂
Wow, Andrea Martin. I only know her form her character in Evil.
Besides your SCTV work check out a movie called club Paradise. A lot of SCTV people are in it written by the guys it did caddyshack everyone is funny and it she's hilarious
Martin Short is a genius
Andrea Martin 🥰Look Hot! In that ❤50’s dress 😬
Love her 50s sitcom mom accent. Think Jane Wyatt.
Even when she's playing a goofball, she's one of the sexiest women that ever lived. IMHO
She was really hot when she portrayed Sophia Loren!😁
Eugene’s Rosen morphs into Bobby Bitman a little bit
If "The Simpsons" were live-action.
How long can Marty maintain that unblinking unmoving stare? Has Guinness weighed in?
This was almost exactly the concept for Despicable Me 3
And the follow-on report is Between 2 Ferns
Oh Martin!
I WISH MARTIN SHORT WOULD BLINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Genius comedy
Funny!!!😊
Martin Short is now in his mid 70s! WTF!!
Is that kid the young Forest Gump actor?
His mistake was being real. Bart Simpson just got renewed for season 36.
Didn't they all get eaten by sharks about 20 years ago?
Was Barbara's middle name Bradford?
Brock and Rusty? Guess we know where the Venture Bros series got their characters from now.
Having your aunt come to visit is a metaphor for menstruation.
I really thought he would be arrested in an adult movie theater, you know, enjoying himself a little too much. that's usually how child actors go
Who played Rusty as a kid?
Rob Godfrey
Sad that Rusty died 2018 when he tried to rebuild his car's engine and accidentally blew up his garage.
No doubt Brock Linahan inspired later greats of the same trait, such as Piers Morgan and Jiminy Glick.
Quite funny.
better than kardashians
A bad tooth smell can fill up a room. 🤢
My friends and I would just look at each other wondering how the heck
SCTV was 100 times funnier than SNL, when it had only 100th of SNL's budget.
There is something seriously wrong with Linahan.
Kinda looks like the inspiration for Austin Powers image.
Brock Linehan is genuinely disturbing.
What a waste of X
ITS NOT REMOTELY FUNNY DUDE
Clifford!
