SCTV and The Sammy Maudlin Show in particular were actually very healthy viewing, psychologically speaking, for a preteen in the 80s loving this late night classic. SCTV and Sammy taught me that celebrities are all vacuous, self-important morons! And I never forgot it.

I saw an interview where Jon Candy was to meet up with Tubes the morning of the shoot where they had to drive for an hour to the lake. He showed up in a limousine with a case of beer and a big bag of pot where they drank and smoked all the way to the lake. Apparently, the whole show was improvised by John and the Tubes just followed his lead.

I love Vince Welnick's theatrics in this video.

The character "Brock Linahan" is actually a parody of the Canadian TV interviewer Brian Linehan (1944-2004).
