Put painters tape down first, then add hot glue….so when you peel it off, the tape comes right off!
So many people have said this rocks!! I will have to try it!
I use a permanent marker to write directly on the desks. I also teach 3rd grade and the students like to see their name written in cursive😊
Yes everyone loves seeing there name in cursive!
I do the same. I use the Sharpie paint pens.
So smart!!
i loved seeing my name in cursive when i was in third grade! you can get it off with sanitizer or expo spray i think!
long time teacher tip: when you roll masking tape put it on your piece horizontal. If you put it verticle, it can "roll" off the wall easily. (hope that makes sense!)
SO SMART!!! 🤯
If I remember correctly, you had tons of math manipulatives. Those are always great options for stem bins-unifix cubes, pattern blocks, geo boards, etc. Also cheap items from the Dollar Tree could be good options-straws (cut in half), popsicle sticks, etc. Any resource that could encourage open-ended play and exploration. Your room is looking so good and I love all your storage!
Thank you for the ideas Krista!!
Love your enthusiasm and great ideas. A fun stem activity is pattern blocks with mirrors. Hinged mirrors add to the fun. One suggestion: swap the glue bottles into the black boxes and put the index cards and sticky notes in that drawer. Those glue bottles need to be standing up or you’re likely to have a gluey mess in that drawer. (From a long-time elementary teacher, now retired but still addicted to class room set up videos !)
Thank you for the tips Cathy!!
I use neon chalk markers on the front of their desks. My students absolutely loved to see their names in bright colors and it made it easier for classroom guests to address students by name too. As a bonus, chalk markers are easy to clean off at the end of the year!
Oooh this is cool!!
Hi! I taught third grade for many, many years! It was my absolute favorite grade to teach. You are going to love it! I did not use nameplates on my desks. You are right about them not needing all of that extra information. They also would definitely pick at them! I think numbers are the perfect option. Especially if you’re going to have a switch teacher, and you have two rotations. I’m excited to see how your classroom comes out! I hope you have a really wonderful year! 😊
Thanks Wendy!!
Numbers would be great, because you can use their numbers for other organization set ups too. The numbers by the backpack won’t last long with masking tape. Packing tape over the numbers would work well and usually last several years. They are going to get a lot of wear and tear by the backpacks. You could also label spaces on the bottom shelf too. That would help make it less crowded on the hooks. Great video, best of luck this year!
That's a great idea!! Thank you!!
Marvelous Tape works well on most surfaces.
You could put whiteboards in your empty basket.
I'm toying around with the idea of letting students keep a whiteboard in their desk since they're so huge and I have a lot of boards.. Haven't decided yet!
Everything is looking great, Katie. I like the cohesiveness of the black baskets. I use nameplates and name tags in my class. I put their name and number on the tags. I think the students like to see their names in the classroom. I think it was also helpful when there was a guest teacher in the room. I really need to make some STEM bins for students to use during indoor recess.
Good point! I've decided to go with names for sure!!
My teacher did that when I was in school. I love the idea, plus they are supper cute.
I love command strips! They’re strong, easy to remove, and leave no trace behind!
Yess command strips are amazing!!
Blu-tac is the best for putting up things around your classroom 👌👌👌
I wil have to see if I can find some! Thanks!
I used hot glue on cinder block and it didn't damage it and it just peeled off if it was on the block. Sticky tack works pretty good to hang small things. I've found clear packing tape works better than the other. Looking good!
Yayyy I'm so glad you had success with hot glue!
Oh my gosh. Those pockets on the chrome books… brilliant!!! Thanks for the great idea. Great video. Love that game!!
You are so welcome!!
Blocks Rock seems so much fun! What a cool resource, would be so fun for a rainy day game! 😊
It was so fun!! I can't wait for my students to try it out!
Well done! Great work. Superb.
I have BrainFlakes in my Kindergarten room! It does take them a bit to learn to work with them, but they absolutely LOVE them once they have used them a few times! I also used them with older kiddos and printed direction cards from TPT as challenges for them!
Ahhh yay!! So glad they'll get the hang of it!
Craft sticks, the wide ones, with Velcro on the ends make great STEM bins. Bengals blocks and wooden cubes from dollar tree work good too.
Oh I love the craft stick idea! So creative!!
I use name tags in third with a multiplication table, cursive alphabet, a few shapes they typically forget. They use the multiplication table all year. i think its a fantastic resource!!
Good point! I've decided to go with names for sure!
I have walls like that, and hot glue works super well! I also find command strips and hooks work well as needed.
Yesss command brand is great!
It is looking so good! Teach outside the box and the brown bag teacher have great stem bin ideas and resources.
Thanks for the tip!! I will check them out!
The numbers on the desk are a great idea! It matches and has a great purpose!
I think I am going to use this numbers above the student work area and do names on the desks!
I’ve got to order the Blocks Rock for my third graders!!!!! I loved watching y’all play!
It is so fun!! I can't wait for my students to try it out!! You could also start a donors choose project to get a set for your class!
Awesome video! Your students are going to benefit greatly from how dedicated you are. Loving your set up videos!
Thanks so much!!!
I love the numbers on desks. I used to put small round colored stickers in the corners and write the numbers myself. I used them all year to support math in 5th. I'd use the numbers to make random groups ("if your number is a multiple of 3...if your number is prime...etc") or to line up differently. In 3rd, you could say "if your number is 9-4..." etc. I used the colors for groupings, too.
So fun!! Great way to do groupings!!
I have been using the following Tape from Amazon in my classroom and it has been working well. Double Sided Tape Heavy Duty - 3/4 in 10 Ft No Residue Clear Removable Strong 2 Sided Acrylic Adhesive Sticky Tape for Craft Wall Mounting
I will have to check this out!! Thanks!
Seal and peel caulk is amazing on cinderblock😁
Blocks Rock is a great game! I like the way u & ur husband counted b4 u both looked at the card at the same time. Some students like 2 cheat. I also like the way the pictures r printed on both ends of the card so students can follow how to build the shapes from where they r sitting when they play the game.
It was super fun!! Can't wait for my students to try!!
I know this is too late but a little teacher trick, put masking tape on the wall or whatever surface you're sticking to and then put the hot glue on the masking tape and stick whatever to that. It works! I have cinderblock wall to and then no scraping hot glue off! Hope that helps!
YES! Great hack that I actually have started doing! Thanks for sharing! Never too late for good ideas!
As we always say, it’s always a mess before it turns pretty. I’m redoing my bedroom for my twentieth birthday in about 3 and a half months. We’re painting, taking out furniture and decor. It will definitely be a mess at first
It is definitely a process haha!
I teach two groups of 5th and I used the sticky pockets on desks and just wrote their names on cards, but your number idea is good too. I love those number cards 🥰
Did the sticky pockets stay pretty well?
I also recommend double sided tape for hanging things up. I think it’s 3M double stick tape heavy duty or something like that.
Just got some!! Thanks 😊
I really like the STEM Bins from Brooke Brown from Teach Outside the Box. She has labels that you can print and attach as well as task cards and challenges.
I will have to check them out!! Thanks!
I use a mini cut out like a small apple, etc. with their name. I put it in the corner of their desk. It really helps for substutitues.
Super simple! I love it!
Love the number idea! I always used numbers and they would change so often as my class list changed, so that’s perfect because you can change the numbers easily! I may have to steal your idea. Also, agree with name tags getting ugly, so I have used magnets and put the magnetic name tag in front of desk. Good for a sub and easy access to grab from students.
Oooh that's a fun idea!!
Last year I tought third grade, and I use nameplates kids love it! This year I'm teaching 5 grade, and they also love it, for me names are important, so I use nameplates.
Your classroom is looking great. Can't wait to see next video.
I have decided to put names!! Thanks for watching 😊
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary Your videos are great, I really enjoy watching them. Thanks for all your work!
Yes I teach 3rd also and use those same plastic labels for their desk plates. I just put their name and number and they switch easily if you have to move students.
Good point! I've decided to go with names for sure!
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary but I will say sometime the labels stick very strong and leave that sticky residue after
Looking great!!💛👏🏻
Thanks Shelli!!
My 3rd graders LOVE brain flakes & prefer the open ended play w/out task cards! I feel as though the age range matters, but over the last few years, my thirdies have been OBSESSED
So good to hear!! I found some task cards but they will, of course, be totally optional!
Name tags in cursive is a great idea for the kids to see. I also like to put name tags on the front of the desks for me and other teachers, subs, presenters to learn the kids' names. It also helps when rearranging desks to remember whose desk is whose.
On the front of the desks, not the top.
Thanks for the tip Lynn!! 😊
Catching up on your videos… good morning
HP Instant Ink is Amazing! It's a small sub based on your printing needs where they send you ink as you get low. I love it! Just wanted to share based on your ink aggravation. Hope it helps!
Considering switching to this sometime in the future!!
Yay! A new video!!!! ❤️🙌🏻👏🏻
Thanks for watching Lindsay!!
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary ❤️
For your STEM kits kids love Popsicle sticks and clothespins. You connect the popsicle sticks with the clothespins. Also, tooth picks and modeling clay. Small stickers and index cards are fun for them to make pictures with. If you have a budget, KEVA planks rule.
Oooh thanks for these great suggestions!!
my dream is a smartboard in the classroom, it really helps to teach and saves paper. Your class is great
I love my smart board!!
painter's tape keeps so many things up on the wall for me!!
I need to restock my painters tape haha
I like that blocks rock game. I would like to do stem bins in the morning instead of morning work, too. I’m also a third grade teacher. I put name tags. I didn’t even tape them, so when they ripped or got lost they weren’t even necessary anymore. Basically, name tags just for the beginning of the year. Consider using one of those paper drawers for graph paper. We used graph paper when we taught area, perimeter, and rectilinear shapes.
Ahhhh graph paper!! I didn't even think of this!! Thank you!!
you could try packing tape under the backpack hooks & extra mailbox spots for paper
Good idea!!
I use sharpie paint pens on desks to write names and numbers! I will also write their name small in cursive in the corner. I will never ever put name tags on desks because these don’t peel off! Expo markers will take it right off.
Great idea!!
I love your new video mrs kaite
Thanks for watching Arianna!
Numbers are always a great idea and reusable
I will keep my number system but also do cursive names as well!
Do the painters tape trick. Put blue painters tape on the cabinet or wall and then hot glue on the tape and stick your decor on. Life saver!
So many people have said this rocks!! Thanks Michelle!
I got this from another RUclips teacher… she uses hot glue to put things on her wall but she puts a piece of painters tape on the wall first. Painters tape is easy to remove and the hot glue keeps the item adhered to your wall.
I will have to try this next time! So many people said it's the best!
I teach 3rd too. I had to pull the erasers from my third graders. They take them all, build with them, stack them etc. I noticed they are not as excited about them if I get all red ones. I love the numbers with multiplication facts but struggle with the answers posted in front of my students. Each student has a white board, marker and eraser in their desk because we use them almost daily. Sometimes I have them bring an old sock to use as an eraser. I am so jealous of your storage. What I like most about putting their names instead of numbers is it helps substitutes and we have had administrators walk into our room and address students by their name.
I have decided to put names on their desk for that reason! I was also considering doing dry erase supplies in their desks too!
May want to put the backpack numbers above the hooks so backpacks don't knock them off? Thanks for the great video Katie!
Yesss so smart!
Have you tried the blue hanging putty (locative fun-task mounding putty)? I have used this in all of my classrooms over the past 16 years and it works great!!
I haven't! I will have to look it up!
I know it is pricier, but I use command products on my walls. I get a huge pack at Costco when they go on sale. :) Your room is looking great!
Yessss!! The Command brand Picture Hanging strips are the BEST!!
Numbers are perfect
Magnet name plates can be left for a sub day
Magnetic!! -- great idea!!
Painters tape holds on my cabinets and wood surfaces! If it’s not holding posters, definitely put painters tape then hot glue!
I always think using names is better than numbers when possible. Love the idea of cursive names. You can still use your adhesive squares but I would make a cute square with their name to put it in :)
Love your videos!
Do you put the hot glue on the wall side or on what you are hanging?
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary as long as the hot glue ends up on the tape instead of the wall it will work either way 👍🏻
@@katiepasko8853 awesome, thanks!!
Gorilla Glue putty works really well. Easy comes off.
Wow! I would think it would be tough to get off!
Exciting!
It is!! 😊
I’m 6th grade in an elementary school and we do departmentalize, so I give them name tags but they aren’t attached to their desks. They take them with them to their other classes
So smart!!
I was a long term sub for 3rd grade last year and they did like the dominos but heads up that is LOUD, ha! They also loved Legos. I’d say the Legos is what they gravitate towards most.
Ha! SO TRUE!!
Clear packing tape works better for me than masking tape in rooms that get very hot and humid when the air is off. I hate walking in every morning to find things in the floor that have to be put back up!
Hot glue definably can pull paint off block walls. Someone told me a great tip! Put painter's tape on the wall and hot glue the poster or it onto the painter's tape. It stays all year and when you want to move it, it pulls off clean!
What if the painters tape won't stick to the walls?
you should get more of the 3 tier drawers so all the student center items are in the same thing
There’s something called museum putty if you want to try that instead of the tape! It’s more durable that regular putty
Thanks for the tip!!
I never did name tags when teaching in 3rd grade.
For your numbers, you could use glue dots. Also, maybe extend 8 & 9 on the top and then put 10, 11, 12 separately on a cabinet door so 11 isn’t separate. Just a thought. It still looks good. I hope this made sense. 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for the tips! It made sense!! I am not gonna finish them until we have rosters and I know how many I need but I'll keep this in mind!
I teach third :) and for "name tags" I write their name and number on their desks with an oil based black sharpie.
I've heard from a couple people that this works well!!
Plain name tags, no alphabet/ number line needed usually. 3rd graders do state testing so they can’t have access to that all year.
Hot glue never sticks to cinder block. Packing tape works too.
Good point! I've decided to go with names for sure!
Try putting painters tape down and put hot glue on that. It’ll come right off!
The painters tape tends to peel off the wall
I teach second grade and my students have a name tag and a number(which I write next to their name). I had a wonderful donation of name plates that hold the name tags though, so no taping to the desk. :)
I've decided to go with names for sure!
Have you tried glue stick? I glue stick laminated words to my classroom door. And they peel off easy at the end of the year, and I just use a surface cleaner to clean the glue off.
I haven't tried that!
I would do names versus numbers. Simply because people like to hear and see their own name.
Yesss I have decided to do names for sure!
It's coming together!! I have put painter's tape on the wall/cabinet/cupboard and then hot glued the decor. onto the painter's tape. Then it's easy to take off, but I'm not sure if the painter's tape will hold. Does that make sense? Keep up the great videos!
I do the same thing! It works like a charm!
I'll have to try and see if the painters tape holds!! Thanks!
I don’t know how big the backpacks your students use, but my 4th graders use rather large ones. I wouldn’t be able to put 2 on a single hook. A thought might be to put the number next to the hook so they could see the numbers with backpacks hanging up.
oooh yeah hopefully I'll be able to do one to a hook... if not maybe if I did every other hook like this one has 2 the next has 1 to make more space
Also try double sided tape it works great
Ooh I've never tried this on walls 🤔
To remove the hot glue use a blow dryer on high for a few seconds
GENIUS!!!
Love your classroom, it’s spacious classroom! What did you use to cover your chair?
It is linked on my Amazon storefront! I think under classroom must haves or classroom set up 😊
I use the Target pockets to label their name and number on their chair instead of the desk. They don't pick at it as much.
ON THEIR CHAIR -- SO SMART!!
As a third grade teacher I don’t think name tags are necessary. I do, however, have students color in bubble font letter name tags of their name and laminate it. I then use velcro to attach it to their desk. I only do this because I let my students switch seats every quarter. That way way they can move their name tag to whichever desk they move too. I also let my students pick their own seats throughout the year. I made the expectations known of course :)
Velcro is a great idea!!
I’m curious about the cart with the big tubs on the white wire rolling cart, it’s cool and I didn’t see it on any of your sources. If you know where you got it, please share.
I got it from a retiring teacher years ago! I’ve tried to find something similar to link for y’all but haven’t found anything - so sorry!!
Hi, Katie. Wondering what your first grade behavior/classroom management plan was? Did you use a clip chart?
I do not... I may do class dojo points and then some rewards but I haven't completely decided yet
Can you share the name of the stem containers you are using? Love the idea
I just added my Amazon storefront to the description! They are under the “Soft Start” list!
Save your 3 balloon for the third day of third grade and take pics of your students. Didn’t know that was a thing until this past year;)
Wait this is so cute!!! Less stress to get it on the first day lol
Since you're teaching cursive this year, I'd highly recommend writing your students' names in cursive somewhere on their desks. I don't think you need super in depth name tags, but yes, I'd still encourage you to have their names.
Good point! I've decided to go with names for sure!
Those cubbies would be great for STEAM bin storage.
I would do names with the numbers. I personally have an issue with referring to students solely by a number. At least their desks should have their names.
Yes I am totally using some cubbies for STEM storage! And have decided to go with names!
You said you do pictures under friends and family…what kind of pictures…like pictures you take during the day or ones they bring in?
I have students bring in a family photo to share with the class! I hang one up too and will ask special area teachers, counselors, and principal to share one with my class for us to hang as well! Then throughout the year I'll add some photos from in the classroom of the kiddos together in our class family!
Hole punch the top of the numbers and zip-tie to the back of their chairs!! GAME CHANGER because they don’t mess with them and it’s SO EASY to change a seating chart.
Oh this would be great if I was doing flexible seating! Gonna remember that!
Hi Katie I don't know if this is available where you live but have you tried using blu tack for your decorations?
I haven't! Good idea!
Love your lanyard. Can you tell me where you got it?
It is from @alesia.troian on Instagram/Etsy
Just wondering where you got the white metal cart/stand for your crates? Thank you!
I got it from a retiring teacher years ago! I’ve tried to find something similar to link for y’all but haven’t found anything - so sorry!!
Hi!! Hope it’s not too late to comment about this😅! Where did you get those colorful pastel looking bins/trays shown in 21:45 (& 29:17) in the black cubbies? I’ve been trying to find trays that fit my theme but all are too bright and neon looking :(.
Btw, your videos have helped me a lot with classroom organization as a 1st year teacher!!❤️ I appreciate all that you do🫶🏽
You don’t want to double up on backpacks. Give each student their own. You can always get the heavy duty command hooks if you need more. I do t want to sound mean but you don’t know how clean some house are and you don’t want bugs or lice to transfer. This comes from experience.
Didn't think about that!
Hello, the crates that are behind you. What is that item called that hold your crates? I would really like to purchase some of those. I have tons of crates that need to be put to use. Thank you!
I got it from a retiring teacher years ago! I’ve tried to find something similar to link for y’all but haven’t found anything - so sorry!!
Love the video! What camera and tripod do you use? I’m starting my RUclips channel and I always like to see what equipment others use. ☺️
I use my iPhone 13 Pro and an iPhone tripod from Amazon!
@@mrs_katie_in_elementary that’s awesome! Great quality! I use my phone as well. So this is inspirational! ☺️
I was yelling,"the Wow Work¨ will be backwards! But you didn´t hear me. I´ve made that mistake more than once over my 25 year career! I am loving your classroom!
