  • The Closing Titles from the 1st 30 minute episode. The episode originally aired on ITV 19th July 1988. The middle 8 is here, and is in fact played twice in this theme. The 2nd middle 8 was removed after the first 2 episodes and was only then heard on Omnibus editions in the UK and Double episode showings in Australia.
    This video is posted to support the DVD releases which I encourage people to purchase.

      Yes! I would be hoping my parents hadn't noticed... If i could make it past the credits, chances are I might just be able to watch whatever is coming up next - probably a violent action film! Whenever I watched the Bill, my mum would be constantly reminding me, that the police do not say "You're nicked" they say "I'm placing you under arrest..." - Although, i'm sure they say it occasionally - how could she know??

    There was a lot of depth and meaning in this outro. It's the end of an episode that signalled the end of a working day for the cops, so they are off walking home. They're not marching on duty, they're relaxed, the walk looked casual. Off duty for now until next time. Even the ground they walked on spoke volumes; the wet cobbled British streets and rainy weather gave off that sort of feeling of the kind of environment they worked in. As the cops gradually disappear from screen, it was the TV equivalent of the curtain going down.
    Even as a kid, I got that. It was so good to watch. We need this back.

    • @judithfurmston3731
      @judithfurmston3731 5 лет назад +4

      UK police don't march on duty, this is how they walk along unless they need to run. The "policeman's walk" is good fun to watch when you notice it. Even last week I saw a pair of officers on duty using this stroll. They can walk for miles at this pace.

      @@judithfurmston3731 Which isn't even taught to recruit officers, it just... happens. Before I retire I intend to get a video of me walking down this street (Pennington Street, Wapping) before they tarmac it just to overlay this music.

      They're not walking home Mustafa, I think others have pointed this out... This is how UK Police used to walk around the streets, commonly known as "Bobby on the Beat", they each had a patch or set of streets and they walked about them to keep peace and order and brilliantly got familiar with the members of their local community.
      This is a facet of policing sadly lost with the onset of modern cost cutting and the regression from face-to-face policing.
      The end titles themselves do communicate the end of the episode, as they're walking away from the camera. But the meaning is that whilst we remain stationary the Bobby continues on the Beat, working hard to keep law and order for us the viewer.
