Indeed, the mild-hybrid from my understand only uses the electric motor to assist. Never to run on. Where as the hybrid (HEV) will do short distances only on electric when it can.
The options are 1.6L petrol and 1.6 diesel without hybrid, next is 1.6 petrol or 1.6 diesel + mild hybrid 48V which can't run electric only. Power is 113bhp diesel or 138bhp diesel with 48V hybrid, the petrol is listed as 148bhp with or without the 48V hybrid but the hybrid version is about 0.5 seconds faster to 60mph and the petrol version claims very slightly improved fuel economy 6.1L v 6.5L 100km - 43.5 v 46.3mpg The only difference KIA list for the diesel 113bhp and mild hybrid diesel 138bhp is slightly faster acceleration the consumption in the WLTP test is identical Next you have the HEV version with 1.6 petrol only plus a small 1.49kw battery which can run on electric only at low speed for a short distance and 226bhp combined Finally the PHEV version 1.6 petrol with a plug in 13.8kw hybrid system which can run pure elctric for 30-35 miles and has 261bhp but almost identical acceleration performance to the HEV The diesel fuel economy figures are slightly higher than the HEV petrol - diesel 5.1L/100km 55.4mpg - HEV 4.8L/100km 58.9mpg KIA have not published the fuel economy figures for the PHEV vversion yet on their website
Bought one on your recommendation Mark. 1.6 GTS full hybrid. Many thanks for your great reviews. Now I have to watch three more years of your reviews before I buy the next one! I wonder what that will be by then?
Kia are just killing it lately. Of course, I’m now biased! Thanks, Nobby, for not including the “Kiundai” bings and bongs in the video - the dog here, being now used to the Soul, jumps up every time there’s a Kiundai review on, and with the binging & bonging, he’s there “right, where are we going, come on, come on“!!
A friend had the dealer convince him to go diesel instead of the hybrid. He advised him that he wouldn't get near the claimed economy and would be unhappy with the hybrid.
Mild hybrids are very insignificant. They are not like toyotas hybrids which cun run on ev alone sometimes. I guess thats why the fuel economy is more like a regular petrol version. Im pretty sure mild hybrid is made for compliance reasons. No saving at all
@@mikeconnolly6845 he does not know the diff between a mild hybrid (mhev) and a full hybrid (hev). Just mixes them up all the time. Only knows what a phev is, because it has a plug.
Well aware that it is similar to Toyota etc but the market I am aiming at is not people with even the slightest bit of experience in the area hence comments like not needing to plug it in etc. I drive approx 80 different cars per year, well aware of the two differences thanks!
@@NobbyOnCars i’m sure you are Nobby, us petrolheads would understand the difference but as you say probably best to market it like you are for people with little knowledge of cars!
I reckon this would be the pick of the range. More power, auto box and 40mpg (sorry, 7l per 100km, for those out in the wild west). Good review, yet again Nobby.
Interesting car. 2 things I don't like are the use of the awful shiny black plastic on the central console (why do they all use that when customers hate it?) but even worse .. why does Kia still use an ignition key? So last century. As always, keep up the good work Nobby.
if it has an ignition key at least it's stops the light finger brigade stealing it with a wireless relay kit. It's easy to prevent with a Faraday pouch for your keys but a lot of cars with keyless entry and start have been stolen this way.
Another reviewer that does not know the difference between the HEV and the mild hybrid, read the spec and try again! This is the mild hybrid not the HEV version.... ur talking shite Mr. The mild hybrid has 148 bhp the HEV has 230 bhp.
Hi Nobby, it was a poor way he made the point but he is correct. You called it a mild hybrid but you now correctly refer to it in your comment as a HEV. Doesn't change the outcome of your review.
@@kieranh6962 I had an order in for the GT line hybrid so knew all the figures for each one, I cancelled it and bought a BMW as Kia could not give a delivery date.
The car you tested is not a Mild Hybrid. It’s a Hybrid.
he has confused them ,mentioning 230 hp for the mild hybrid.
Indeed, very strange mistake to make...

Exactly, that was my first reaction when he announced it. HEV=Hybrid, MHEV=Mild Hybrid, PHEV=Plug in Hybrid

Mild hybrid is not the same as HEV. Not even close, Nobby.
That's what it feels like to me!
Yeah I was thinking, mild hybrid is the little 48 volt batteries put into normal manual, diesel cars, this one he is driving is like a Prius!

How long do hybrid Kia sport Taj battery lost?
This is not the “Mild” Hybrid, it is the Hybrid ! Great car though and the one I’d go for.
You don't plug it in so to me, it's a mild hybrid or hybrid. Non car fans will understand better with this description which is why I said it.
Is this the mild hybrid or the actual hybrid? Your muddling things up
Yep I’d say this is the Hybrid not the Mild hybrid.
How are the pop-out cup holders adjustable?
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. I particularly like the Red Paint Colour
Thanks for watching!
HEV is not MHEV
Nice design Interior and Exterior. Any idea, Are they planning to release PHEV ?
They will release PHEV as well .
Nothing like the uk version I've seen as no spare wheel atall nor an option and them silver bars on the bumper not on the uk version either
How many Nobbys can fit into the volume of this Kia
Bril😂.
Is this version a lot quicker?
You'd notice the extra grunt alright.

K4 is keyless. I do like that they have light around the ignition so at least it can be found in the dark.
