Wow. I've heard you had to work quickly with epoxy grout but I don't think I can move as fast as this guy :)
I forgot to mention that I really enjoyed the video. My comment wasn't a criticism, just something I would have liked to see to show how any grout film showed up on a darker tile, which to me, would have been easier to see.
Thank you!
We appreciate the suggestion and will pass this on to our team.
It would have been more effective if you would have used a dark tile, this way we could have seen more of the clean up process as the residue gradually gets removed. Using a light colored tile and grout becomes more of a lecture because we cannot see any contrast. Even a sloppy job would have looked good on camera. Would have also like your take on this product vs. the new Spectralock 1. Thanks.
Hi Paul! Thanks for the suggestions. We'll share it with the team. Have a great day!
I'm sure this was on purpose.
U never showed the wash down packages being mixed and would b nice to show u washing down in slower speed
Great video! I just ordered some of this. Love that you recommended treating yourself to a new grout float! I have been telling myself I need to get a new float sometime, but didn't want to spend the extra money. I guess if I am paying so much for epoxy grout I can afford a new float.
Good luck on the project!
I used a tabe aroud the tiles to male sure that they do not get any epoxy and I thought this was a great idea!! It worked in most of the areas but got some haze in few tiles which I have no idea how it happened!! I then had to use a sanding machine to clean up and it is better now!!
Thanks for the tips!! will be carefull next time!!
Thanks for the feedback!
Hey guys I use this epoxy grout at my house and love it. I did it about 12 years ago and the grout looks like new. I have some material left from other project and year manufacture was 2017. Is the material still good to use?

My concrete has no tiles: I ask, can I use epoxy grout both as bedding under the tiles and as a waterproof grout between the tiles. Very helpful video, Thank you :)
Hello! Thank you for your message. No, epoxy grout for ceramic tile and stone is not a replacement for a waterproofing membrane. When a waterproofing membrane is required, use a LATICRETE® Waterproofing Membrane. This product is also not a setting material, please use an appropriate mortar to set the tiles into the substrate (eg. 254 Platinum). Hope this helps!
@@laticrete Your reply helps a lot, thank you for a very solid professional reply, now at least I know what I need to do very best wishes, John/beach bum (retired) ;)
Can you use 4-5% white vinegar for the final rinse if you are out of rinse packages? I've been told it works well. If not, what can be used? I've also heard the Windex with white vinegar works.
That is perfectly fine to use!
Can't you apply the epoxy only at the gaps? So you don't have to clean the mess on the tile.
Maybe using tape to cover the tile
Whichever method you choose to install the grout is perfectly acceptable as long as your joints are properly packed full, level, and clean when the installation is complete.
Will this grout stick to my epoxy floor and glass? plus do you have silver , copper light gold and black in tubes premixed? thanks
It may be best to give your tile surfaces a wipe down with a damn sponge prior to floating the grout. This assists in the spread of the material as well as inhibits the grout from sticking to the surface. Currently, there are no premixed tubes of those colors, but we do carry all of our 40 standard colors.
Epoxy grout dries faster on the surface of the tile. Joints still wet, how you manage that. If you clean too early it takes off from.the joint. If you wait too long its hard to clean the surface.
Any tips on this pls. Thx..
When grouting it's best to "cut" as much excess grout from the surface before moving to your next section. You should be able to clean the section you just grouted after 20 minutes. Wash additive packets are provided in the product packaging to aid in the initial wash. With a well rung out sponge, wipe grout joints and tile surface in a light circular motion, loosening grout residue while making the joints smooth. Drag a clean well rung out sponge diagonally over the scrubbed surfaces to remove grout residue. Rinse sponge after every pass; use each side of sponge only once between rinsing. Discard sponges when they become “gummy” with residue. Check work as you clean. Repair any low spots with additional grout. Following these instructions should result in a successful installation!
Can you use this product on flat pebble stone mosaic tiles? What is the largest grout line?
SPECTRALOCK Pro grout can be used for grout joints from 1/16-1/2”. So make sure the pebbles joints are smaller then that. We'd also make sure to the follow the pebble manufacturer install instructions, and do a test area first before committing to the space. Here are the install instructions if needed cdn.laticrete.com/~/media/product-documents/installation-information/ds6855
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Hi there, we normally apply our epoxy & than continue (after 24hours) our sanding, honing & polishing process. Was reading that you don’t recommend leaving it for a prolonged period especially on a white stone. Does this include if your going to be grinding or sanding.
Hello! Thanks for your message. That is something they would have to determine in the field with a test area/mock up. We state on the product data sheet for this material that Epoxy Resins may affect the color of white or porous stones (such as White Carrara, Thassos White, Royal Danby etc.). So there would be no way to provide a blanket answer to cover all/each stone vs. how they may be grinding/sanding those stones. Hope this helps!
@@laticrete thanks for the reply, on the natural stone (they were white carrara, white marble & light grey marble) made up into custom mosaic pieces, they didn’t mark or stain. Even when the ratio of grout to liquid was less, this was for areas we’re it was needed to finer to fill smaller holes.
I love this stuff it's to point I can't find it in stores around here
Where are you located?
First time using epoxy grout here. I was shocked how easy anything with epoxy in the name cleaned up with water! Used a mini kit for my 3x3 bathroom floor. I was afraid I would run out, but your grout calculator was right on! Then I panicked and washed out too much grout. A combination of not waiting long enough, and wiping too much because I was so scared of grout haze (which was not a problem). It was also my first time using rectified tiles which I think means underfilling is way more obvious that with rounded edge tiles. Can I reapply epoxy grout over fresh epoxy grout to correct my underfilled 1/8th inch grout lines on a porcelain mosaic tile floor?
Yes, when the product is still wet (typically during the 1st or 2nd cleaning) it is possible to add more material to level off the grout. However, if the grout is allowed to dry, it wouldn't be suggested to install more as there may not be enough body to keep the grout in place. As a general rule of thumb, grout should be removed down to 1/2 the thickness of the tile prior to regrouting. This assures proper bonding to the base and sides of the tile it is being installed between.
Without knowing how keep you are trying to fill, we could say you could try. You may need as much as half the depth of the grout joint available to provide enough space for the grout to set up again. Best we could say is give it a shot. Knowing that all of the previous challenges you've explained will still be present, and likely more challenging to overcome with a shallow grout joint.
@@laticrete Not the answer I wanted to hear! 😕
@@laticrete I thought epoxy grout could be added without removing the old grout as it would adhere to the old.
We've always used grout to adhere old ceramic style bath fixtures. Epoxy has even more adhesion hence the cleanup is more difficult 🤔
This is a helpful demo. It was not clear how much Part C powder to add to the A & B liquid.
Hello Alan! Thanks for watching! If you're using a mini unit, you use (1) 2.25 lb part C. If you're using a full or commercial unit you will use (1) 9lb part C per mix. Hope this helps!
Hi Laticrete,
I saw some instructions online that ask for 2.25 lbs of part c. Should the entire 9 lbs of part c be mixed inside of the AB container? From the looks of it you only added some of part c, however, I cant tell if off screen all 9lbs was mixed in.
Hello! Thank you for your message. The C part depends on the unit purchased. Mini will need 2lb, Full unit 9lb and Commercial unit 4x 9lb. Add Part C color powder to blended A and B liquids and mix thoroughly with margin trowel or slow speed drill mixer (< 300 RPM). The LATICRETE SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout unit is designed to use all the Part C color powder for most applications. For narrow joints, it is acceptable to leave out up to 10% Part C color powder to produce a more fluid mix. Can you use this on natural stone mosaics?
Absolutely! It's recommended to seal your natural stone before grouting so don't skip this step.
How can I get one of those shirts?
Thank you. Great job. How did you you know about my sponges 😂😂
Thanks for watching!
Quick question. Is this epoxy grout. Waterproof
This depends on what you mean, if you're asking if it will prevent water from passing through then the answer would be no, it does still have a very minuscule absorption rate which is why a waterproofing membrane should always be used when the application calls for it. Otherwise, the product itself is water resistant and is suitable for use in submerged applications such as spas, pools, and fountains once allowed to cure for a minimum of 10 days.
So did you use the wash packs?
Hi Ben! Thanks for watching and your message. If you're interested in using wash packs - we do have helpful instructions on our website: cdn.laticrete.com/~/media/product-documents/installation-information/ds-6815.ashx?sc_lang=en&vs=1&d=20160216T190308Z Hope this helps!
Great video!! Ty!
Thank you for watching!
How long does it take to dry?
Hey Cliff, depending on the temperature you're installing in, this product will allow for light foot traffic in as little as 12 hours. For the list of cure times, please check out the test results on the product data sheet on our website.

Sir! Is that possible to use spectralock as tile adhesive or what is ur suggestion.Hope u see my commnt.tnx sir in advnce!
Hello! Thank you for your message. We do not recommend using SPECTRALOCK Pro Premium as an adhesive, if you need an epoxy adhesive we would recommend LATAPOXY 300. Hope this helps!
Am I able to use a small amount for my miters around niche instead of the whole bucket?
Hi Ruben! Thanks for watching and your question! For best results, we suggest that you mix the entire unit. However, if you need to mix up a small amount, use the same proportion of each component (e.g. 1/2 of the Part A, 1/2 of the part B and half of the LATICRETE® SPECTRALOCK® Part C by volume. Hope this helps!
My package came with a note that says do not mix the A and B liquids together.
A client thinks that is why it looks like garbage. But its grainy, poor consistency and has to be washed so much it looks like garbage in a 1/8” space even with the withholding 10% like mentioned
Hello! Thanks for your message. You will always want to mix the A and B together. Here are some instructions to help you with some clarification on the process: cdnmdm.laticrete.com/ProductAssets/Product%20Documents/ds-6815-la-en.pdf It will let you know how to mix and apply the materials. We strongly recommend reaching out to Tech Support to share the note you see about not mixing. We'd be happy to help. Call 1.800.243.4788 x1235.
Its a small 2”x2” yellow paper with bold black words in english and Spanish. DO NOT MIX THE A AND B
What type of mortar is used?
We have a number of different tile mortars available in our product line! In this particular demonstration we do not specify a tile mortar.
do a demo on quarry tile
We'll pass this feedback on to our team.
Boston??!!! booo! great vid!
I didn't see any diagonal spreading of the grout to avoid pull-out. Good video though.
Reading the Laticrete SpectraLock PRO grout installation instructions, this video misses a couple major items that are clearly spelled out in the install guide. Although the included cleaning agents were (very) briefly mentioned 3:08, this video doesn't make clear to use them for Wash-1 and Wash-2; there's no mention of using white scrub pads to break leftover residue, nor is there any caution about breathing in the silica dust when mixing.
Good pointers on use of a grout float in good shape, and how to use tackiness as a feel guide for when to begin Wash-1. But really the video should be re-done to fully reflect ALL the major points on how to use the product.
Hi Bill! Thank you for watching and for your feedback. We will share this with the team. Have a great day!
“We have investigated ourselves and found we did nothing wrong”
We will continue to notify the team!
Is this grout sanded or unsanded?
Hello! Thanks for your message. The part C powder would constitute this being a "sanded grout" Although if scratching is what you are worried about we always suggest doing a test area first to determine compatibility with the tile. If you are instead concerned about having trouble getting it in to narrow joints, you can pack out up to 10% of the part C powder when mixing, which will give a bit more fluid consistency to get it in to narrower joints. Here are the install instructions if needed for further info: cdn.laticrete.com/~/media/product-documents/installation-information/ds-6815.ashx?sc_lang=en&vs=1&d=20160216T190308Z Hope this helps!
Hi can I use this grout on vinyl flooring? Thanks in advance
Hello! Thanks for your message. Our epoxy grout is meant to be used with ceramic tile, glass tile and stone.
Nice
Glad you found this informative!
Maybe your demo should have been done on a dark tile. That way you could really see the amount of haze or lack there of.
Hi John! Thank you for the feedback. We'll share it with the team. Appreciate it!
I use your epoxy las years in white color in my shawer floor .
Why my epoxy grout that has turned yellowish?
what can I do to make him white again?
Can you help me please 🥺🥺
Yellowing Grout could be caused by a number of things, including but not limited to, the maintenance frequency, cleaners being used, and minerals/salts in the water. Pending the cause, it would be suggested to do a deep cleaning of the grout to see if that helps. Products like STONETECH DeepKlenz or STONETECH KlenzAll should help. If this doesn't work then a grout colorant can be used to get the color back to bright white.

It’s yellow because you used white grout. Anyone reading this, never use white grout with epoxy it will ALWAYS yellow, due to the yellow resin that you mix with. Light gray is your best bet if you want white epoxy.
I wonder if they don't use a UV protective additive in their mix. Resin products will turn yellow from UV light without the additive.
This guy is dead on about this product.
I have used this on many tile jobs around the house, and would NEVER use mortar grout again!
To mix I simply use a painter's stick, and while it takes some muscle, avoids air bubbles completely.
Unlike regular mortar grout, which leaves a film 3 to 6 weeks after the project is done, this cleans up right away. The two part cleanup process leaves no film whatsoever. But he's right, the song only needs to be damp, not dripping wet.
The installers that claim this is far worse that mortar grout either have never used this or are guys that love returning to finished jobs to remove yet another layer of grout film.
Yes it's a little more expensive, but once this hardens, it is stain resistant, and never needs to be re-grouted.
They also make caulk that looks like the grout so you can finish around the edges where you do not want grout (like a kitchen backsplash around the cabinets).
I don't know why anyone would ever use mortar grout again, because this is also waterproof!
The price is insane.
Nice to see youre using protection. Theres no reason to damage your knees when you’re making a living
Bro you are clearly a seller for this product, not a day to day user for this. 😅
Must be cocaine added to the water. He moved fast af!!
Regular grout it’s way better just make sure to seal it
How so?
Other than being an easier install, regular grout is in no way better than epoxy..
A minor niggle, I sure wish you would not have sped the video up when he was mixing and applying and cleaning the grout. The video is only 11 minutes long, I would have preferred 20 minutes with no fast-forward. When he says "mix at :low speed," he knows that, you know that, tile guys with 20 years experience knows that, but a DIY guy like me would like to hear the drill to gauge just how low, low is supposed to be. Also, I wanted to learn the tempo of this very good installer. When you speed the video up, I can't judge how fast he is really working. The mixing, application, and cleaning might be boring to a marketing person, but that is the exciting stuff to me that I want to see in real-time. Imagine trying to teach playing music with sections of the tutorial sped up. Every tile guy is a performer and I want to see the whole thing at normal speed. Meanwhile, I think I will use Specralock 1, and not have to worry about how fast I have to work as much.
We appreciate your feedback on this and will let our Marketing team know. Please feel free to reach out anytime to our tech services team on installation questions and tips for new products you are trying at 1.800.243.4788 x1235 or by using the live chat button on our website (laticrete.com).
@@laticrete Well thanks so much for reading the comments! I have to say, I really don't feel up to doing an epoxy grout in my DIY shower. However Spectralock 1 looks like a great compromise, and something an amateur like me could take on. I do note Wediboard says you have to use epoxy grout on their foam shower pans if you put in pebbles.
when in doubt just use a regular drill with a paddle on it. put it on max and youre good. They dont have much power anyways
Play the slow parts at 0.25 playback speed (youtube player settings). Seems to speed it up to normal movement speed.
@@seanstumpf4190 What a great tip! Thanks!
Anyone looking for these exact products for cheap in los angeles, give me a holler. I'm selling part AB and part c( color midnight black). I'm doing 150 for part AB and part C for 100 bucks. Part C box comes with 4 cartons. The exact size of the ones he has poured after the epoxy
This stuff is overpriced garbage. Of course you demonstrate it on a small amount of tile that is flat on the ground. BEWARE! This stuff is not worth the money. It is nearly impossible to install on shower walls because the consistency of the product is terrible. It is too grainy and doesn’t hold together well. Yes it is true this garbage leave a haze if you don’t clean thoroughly but that isn’t the problem with this product it is that it looks like crap and you have too wash it so much that the grout joints look terrible. So if you want terrible looking joints and twice the amount in labor and material cost go for this product. The only benefit to this product is it is really hard when cured.
