Cheers Andy! Great review! I love that you have the same racing nerves I have. I just feel like I'm getting a heart attack when I've done two good laps and just try to not crash. Sometimes I'm so tense that it feels like I can't move my hands. Anyway all glory to the mode 1 masterrace!
Love the sticks overlay Andy! ads an air of professionalism and looks good. I love your work and have been waiting for your review of this product. Thank You for all your hard work !
Thanks Andy, I’ve been really curious about this transmitter as I need something new for Frsky. I’d been waiting for someone I trust to review it (which basically means you). So thanks, I’ll probably go ahead & order one this month.
When I started vaping to quit smoking five years ago (and never came back), the 18500 format was less used than the 18650 or the 18350 ones but has some advantages. More capacity and current draw than the 18350 and more compact than the 18650 one. No need for a nuclear power plant back in the days... ^^ Interesting transmitter to throw in the backpack with a tiny quad to fly during lunch time at work. Thanks for the review.
Just got mine on Monday! I've had to drop my rates 130 for racing! Getting used to it a little better. Very responsive and I think if they come out with some umbrella style gimbals I'll be in love!
Thanks Andy , you summed up the good and the bad nicely, For me lack of trainer and the battery choice are a big downside and probably going to leave this version and wait for next version , So close to being perfect, frsky keeps pushing the envelope though!
Comparison flights, grass used for green screen, stick cam overlay... 👍👍 way up for your craft skillz Andy! As a really oldphart, the Taranis always reminds me of *1960's* tech, not 1990's lol. I had ham radios and hand built computers that looked like that. 😱 Nice to see more competition in this game controller form factor.
Good review. I like how you flew it in sim to compare feel and rates. I remember back in January you said it's time for a change (with the Horus X10). This x-lite should fit the bill of the gap left by the Turnigy evolution (which stopped evolving).
Are you using the internal 2.4 ghz antenna? I wondered why there is a hole in the top for another antenna? Im not talking about the long range module bay.
Andy heard from Drone racer 101 that they actually make extensions for the handle grips to fit the regular 1650s or whatever they are lol I use a QX7 and love it way better than my old fly sky I6s
I've been using Taranis sized transmitters since before you were born (mainly JR) but I find the Devo 7e, with the sticks wound out to the maximum, very comfortable.I now find a Taranis very clumsy. What would confuse me about the X-Lite is yet another button layout. I once accused JR of having three different design departments because they delighted in bringing out different systems.
If I'd like to get into airplanes as well as race quads, would this suffice do you think? Or should I go for the qx7? I have a mini brushless quad on the way and am excited to learn acro!
Sure, there is some adapting to do when switching from a "bulky" TX to this one - but hey, the human brain is the most flexible organ that exists. It is even so flexible that you can convert from a pincher to a thumber 🙂 I don't know why so many people are afraid of a change.
Nice concise review, when they first hit the streets I was dead keen to buy one, but they all sold out so very quickly and even now they're quite hard to get (without significant lead times). Though, I'm curious to know what component of the design is from the 1990's cause my dad used to fly futaba radio's in the 1970's that share the same basic design (dual stick, mode 1/2 etc, 5 or more channels). I was even using one of them until about 10 years ago when i got out of flying planes and gliders. Not alot really happened in the 1990's that i can remember with RC (maybe started seeing some radios with LCD's and model memories). Some of my fathers gear dates back to the 1950's (possibly even earlier?) and is truly fascinating how they used to control aircraft back then.
Hey Andy, another great review! Loving all the smaller form factor stuff coming out now. I'm thinking of changing all my gear and moving to 3inch racers. Can get a smaller bag and carry enough batteries to fly all day. What's the best 3inch model in your opinion? I'm looking at the babyhawk r 3. Cheers.
Anxiously waiting on it to come in stock somewhere, need this for my office racers :) Seen all sorts of add-ons already, but no X-lite yet, think the demand is big on this one.
Awesome:) I’ve got one on pre-order and I think I’m going to like it. I’m also used to old-school big transmitters but would also like to have something smaller to carry and also try a new form factor. This has everything one might need and hall effect to boot;) EDIT: If only it had USB charging it would be perfect.
Tempting.. but I'm curious about Nirvana. ... lol I'm coming from a TGY (FlySky, fastest, wink) i-10 and just got all my quads reliable with five new iRangeX Fli14+ RX's! ;) Woohooo Tnx for the great review Andy! Cheers! :D
I like it. Us "thumbers" must stick together. lol Quads for me, no planes. I appreciate the smmaller size factor as well as the simplicity look. FrSky for me anyway on all. Hope this proves to be a solid performer. Thanks Andy for the review. Jeff
Hello Andy I've been looking around to see if anyone is having problems with the 3 input switches on their xlite not showing up in Beta flight. To clarify, my switches on the receiver tab show up, but only display the low and medium value. The high value isn't showing. I've set up my channels in the input tab on TX, this seems to be the only problem I'm having. Oh, and I've updated the Xlite to the latest firmware from the Frsky website. Any information would be a great help. Thanks
As a pincher I have a trouble with anything that doesn't have an option for a neck strap. I get better control when my hands can just kind of sit on top. For freestyle thumbs are fine, but I feel more in control going through gates when I pinch.
I think it's going to depend on the person and the type of flying, L2D. While thumbing you really don't need a neckstrap for most controllers since your hands rest behind the controller and support the weight. For me on the Taranis X9D+, my pinkies rest basically on the side POTS, and my other fingers kind of hover above the other switches on the front and top. Can I fly without a neck strap? Sure, I can still do well, but I feel more in control when I can relax my hands while the controller sits perfectly flat.
I must say I was a bit concerned about your fingers on that stick cam footage. So close to the props!! :p Wonder how you edited that sort of green screen thing though.
haha i see what u did there. yeah its using the color key option in premeire have to make sure the consistancy of the grass is similar. Only certain conditions it works.
Hey! Great you did this vid as I was considering it... Would you recommend it to combine it with a first freestyle drone? I would fly it casually, not competitive or so. I have a Mavic but would love to get my mitts on a 140 like the Sparrow or a Diatone, probbably my only model for now but who knows... :P Cheers and thank you!
Good review Andy, very interested in this; I can put a 3" quad , batteries and Fat Sharks in a coat pocket but the Taranis is like carrying a suitcase. So what happened to the X10S?
Do you feel any difference in range between your X9D and X-Lite? want to do a test? how about comparing to irx-ir8m, another controller style transmitter that can use frsky protocol. (a range test between this 3... plz) SO i can make the right choice.
Seems okay .. but I'm not sure they needed another inexpensive model when they have the Q7X/S . I watched the RSSI, and it was pretty consistent. I'm wondering what racing game that was? I suck at racing .. on the computer or real .. despite the fact that, back in the day, I was a pretty good aircraft Formula 1 racer ... guess my reflexes are gone. Thanks for the look. So glad I have my Taranis X9D+ .. should last me the rest of my flying lifetime (I hope). Cheers.
Bill, I think it's more about the form factor than the price. I also love my X9D+, but a controller like this without an external antenna attached takes up a lot less space in a bag. The Turnigy Evolution was very successful, so they just want a piece of that pie.
Thanks for the Review. I have already ordered one. It will be my first controller. One of the reasons I chose this one was to be able to program it using the Free link IOS APP!!! I really hope you do a stand alone review of just this feature. My hope is that it will help a lot with the learn curve as well as store backups of the models on my IOS device. Can the gimbals be twisted 30 degrees toward the center from the top?
AndyRC pasted from the web site. Like all of our new transmitters it has a wireless feature that lets you link up wirelessly to other FrSky radios for training, additionally it can link up to the FrSky FreeLink App for monitoring telemetry and configuring receivers. Long range is an option with the support of the upcoming R9M Lite 915/868MHz module. Other features include Receiver Match, Real-Time Flight Data Logging and Super Low Latency for competitive flying. Overall this Radio has all the features of its predecessors in a smaller package at an unprecedented value. www.frsky-rc.com/product/taranis-x-lite/
yes but if you look at the manual it states that blutooth requires additional hardware. as mentioned in the video. a really big negative if you are counting on that
Hmm As someone who has (relatively) recently swapped from toy controllers to full scale Tx's I much prefer (and need) the longer throws the latter give me. That is partly a function of age (I'm not young) but, even as someone who has been a gamer and sim user since they first came out, having used a Tx for flying sims I have started to wonder how the heck I coped for so long with such short throws. As such this, from your description, would seem a retrograde step, for me at least. Good design though
Have an Evoution, but may have to save up for this, after a newer car, Itiwit kayak, holiday, new mobius mini (as mine's at the bottom of the Pelbrook cut ((Which is like a river)) with my 3" self designed and printed out freestyler) New converse...if not a newer car, then maybe I'll get cup suspension for the Meg RS225 if my gorgeous lady decides she's happy with it as her daily, and sells her 120K clio....anyone want to buy a 120k Clio 1.6 dynamic bilabong?? new clutch, gearbox, cambelt, heater matrix... by chance, fully adjustable front dampers and springs, but the rears are just lowered..it's a limpet.....Think I'd better stop now, had beer. Wish I earnt more!

AndyRC hi buddy. From BANGGOOD does this controller have EU firmware? Cheers :)
What a great way to compare the two on the sim on a track you know, genius great stuff Andy
thanks Its the best i could do haha cheers
Cheers Andy! Great review! I love that you have the same racing nerves I have. I just feel like I'm getting a heart attack when I've done two good laps and just try to not crash. Sometimes I'm so tense that it feels like I can't move my hands. Anyway all glory to the mode 1 masterrace!
yep its no good for the health haha. thx
Thanks Andy. You've made me reconsider this transmitter.
Love the sticks overlay Andy! ads an air of professionalism and looks good. I love your work and have been waiting for your review of this product. Thank You for all your hard work !
Thanks I try however the cut out of the TX puts my shoes in haha never mind
Dose anyone else genuinely enjoy how Andy says "years"?
Haha never noticed :-)
Thanks Andy, I’ve been really curious about this transmitter as I need something new for Frsky. I’d been waiting for someone I trust to review it (which basically means you). So thanks, I’ll probably go ahead & order one this month.

Nice review! I liked the on screen TX overlay. That was great! Enjoyed!
Thank you
Nice review, Andy! Makes me want one! Thanks for making this video!
This is the review I have been waiting for. Thanks for doing it 👍😁
Thx Dave
I really dig this transmitter, been using it for a week. I'm a pincher. I feel like I have more precision with this over my X10S.
ah glad to hear cheers
Thanks Andy , you summed up the good and the bad nicely,
For me lack of trainer and the battery choice are a big downside and probably going to leave this version and wait for next version ,
So close to being perfect, frsky keeps pushing the envelope though!
Comparison flights, grass used for green screen, stick cam overlay... 👍👍 way up for your craft skillz Andy!

I agree cheers RD
Good review, I've been waiting for someone I trust to get their hands on one of these!
Thanks Richard
Good review Andy, this is a very interesting looking controller.
Love the form factor! Ordered mine a few days back :) I think the black looks better than the red one 😎🤘🏽
'not a racer' yet smashed me on every race we did... lol ;)
id give u an hour on it and ud be ruining me
not racer still much better then me!!!! I'm having a hard time keeping the drone on the course let alone get a good time
Good review. I like how you flew it in sim to compare feel and rates.
I remember back in January you said it's time for a change (with the Horus X10). This x-lite should fit the bill of the gap left by the Turnigy evolution (which stopped evolving).
Great review, I always enjoy your videos. SEND IT!
Are you using the internal 2.4 ghz antenna? I wondered why there is a hole in the top for another antenna? Im not talking about the long range module bay.
I had to drastically lower my rates and add some deadband so it didn’t feel so twitchy.
After that felt great
thanks for the tip
Andy heard from Drone racer 101 that they actually make extensions for the handle grips to fit the regular 1650s or whatever they are lol I use a QX7 and love it way better than my old fly sky I6s

"Stephen hawking don't do that" aha damn you. Thumbs up brother.
I knew you'd been practicing on Velocidrone :D
only for this vid :)
Great review- first one the recommends for pinchers!!
This makes me wish I wasn't a pincher :D Great little radio! 👍👍
Thanks for the video. Taranis QX7 needs an upgrade in order to use a Crossfire module ... What about this transmitter? Is it ready for Crossfire?
No ratchet? Did u try opening the back case of the tx?
great job, i giggled when i realized your feet are in the stick cam view hehehe
yes a trait of the cut out haha
Sure, there is some adapting to do when switching from a "bulky" TX to this one - but hey, the human brain is the most flexible organ that exists. It is even so flexible that you can convert from a pincher to a thumber 🙂 I don't know why so many people are afraid of a change.

I think the 90s saw the programmable transmitters and the Jr transmitter the taranis is copied from is a late 90s design. Thx
Nice vid! Beginner here: does the xlite work with the betafpv75s frsky?
I have dys elf with frsky d8 radio. I wish that radio has all features like this. I so much like that radio and its form factor.
hello Mr. Andy thank you, can you please tell me where I can get an antenna for this thing
Weird battery! But i really like the r
remote!!!! GREAT CHANNEL!!
. 👍😀👍
I have had one for a while and i love it!!!!!

t9hobbysport has them in stock just now, had 13 units yesterday anyway. Hope this helps.
andy... iv bn flying my rmrc recruit fpv flying wing for a cupple of weeks now using the Tranaus X-lite
,and its butter smooth!
awesome glad u are enjoying flying
Can you trim the controller through Beta flight? I'm going to be using it on tinyhawk ii
Good review. Thanx Andy!

EDIT: If only it had USB charging it would be perfect.
its not gonna have that sadly, doesnt have the circuit built in
AndyRC Yeah, that’s the only awkward thing. One has to take the batteries out and have a special charger just for those.
Tempting.. but I'm curious about Nirvana. ... lol I'm coming from a TGY (FlySky, fastest, wink) i-10 and just got all my quads reliable with five new iRangeX Fli14+ RX's! ;) Woohooo

thanks Jeff
Love my x-lite coming from flysky Evolution . Much higher quality and more features
Is the stick throw similar to evolution or smaller?
s2s fpv very similar on throw but evo sticks are slightly longer

I guess the idea is that its so light a neck strap is overkill but i get u for sure. never used a neck strap myself
I think it's going to depend on the person and the type of flying, L2D. sure its a good tx so should work with anything
Andy please do a video about tunning micro quads...
Good review Andy, very interested in this; I can put a 3" quad , batteries and Fat Sharks in a coat pocket but the Taranis is like carrying a suitcase. So what happened to the X10S?
I still use it :) thx
Thanks for this video
will you be testing the new flysky transmitter, NV14 looks like a nice upgrade to the i6x with a modern design
ill take a look thanks
great Video as Always
Why is the camera of center u can see one lock nut and not the other?
look up my review of the batman220 cheers
I do wanna see what people do to get the crsf to work on these if its even possible.
I think the form factor would really suffer if they did.
AndyRC yeah i suppose thats true. Will you be trying the frsky LR system for this? Not that you need LR in your field.
Whats about Frsky X-Lite PRO version? it with 24ch as I see on banggood
Do you feel any difference in range between your X9D and X-Lite? want to do a test? how about comparing to irx-ir8m, another controller style transmitter that can use frsky protocol. (a range test between this 3... plz) SO i can make the right choice.
Thanks. Now I am tempted to buy x lite. But how about irx-ir8m? Same as well?
Hi Andy ... Can you please create a video review of this transmitter with tinywhoop brushed & brushless ?
Thank you!
Thanks for the review. Which Velocidrone track were you fying in thi video?
Stadium split s
Did u fly in Mode 3 🤔😍? My Xlite arrived today 🤘 #IloveIt 😘
Ah Mode 1 🤘 nice 👍 i prefere mode 3 greets 🍀
What's the name of that simulator that you was playing
Hi Andy great review mate, Do you know if you can import your models from the taranis to the Xlite via the SD card? Thanks mate.
yes i think so u will have to save them all to sd card first though
Thanks Andy
+1👍 a cap came off on me also. took awhile to find it. left cap.
Cheers.
hey Bill Its called velocidrone. ton of fun. Cheers
Bill, I think it's more about the form factor than the price. I also love my X9D+, but a controller like this without an external antenna attached takes up a lot less space in a bag. The Turnigy Evolution was very successful, so they just want a piece of that pie.
is it true the stick adjuster screws can tighten up and snap the internals?
not had that with mine
Not sure about the transmitter but sure I am sold on the Batman!
NANANANNANANANANANANANANANANAAAAAAAAAAA.........
For indoor flying and the tiny whoop style these would be great..
All others... I don't think so.
Will it not charge the battery through the USB? The evolution will.
LegGiant no it doesn't thx
"For the last 20-odd years or so" How old are you, man!? I thought you were like... 25 or so..
im on the wrong side of 35 haha thx
Haha man... I meant no disrespect of course... Jun 14 put me @ 36, myself =P
Thought you were a kid! (Sorry, no disrespect intended!)
I mean... I always thought mid 20's or so... No harm I suppose in thinking down instead of up, right? =P
We'll know he's old when he goes by AndrewRC....
I'd buy that just for the type of batteries!! My vape uses those and I have a bunch
The crufts hoop :) really haha Woof! nah not lost on all...
Does it have D8?
is that simulation free?
I will buy that..
Can it goes more than 700m with xm+receiver?
20 years??
Dude did you wear like a green-screen strap-on thingy?
The stick cam looks a lot like it... xD
when the grass is green it works haha. thanks
I see. Well played, Mister. ,D
Haha, Stephen Hawking the race anouncer :D
Great! Transmitter cam :) but please cut out your boots :D
ill send you the file and you can cut em out for me? ;)
27 years lol :D

Thats not gonna work heath as it doesnt come with bluetooth. :(
Also interesting is that they didn’t skip the micro USB and just go to USB-C. Would have been able to charge faster or at all with a USB-C port🤔.
AndyRC really the app is already loaded on my phone so that does exist. Wow they advertised this as well on the official web site.
AndyRC pasted from the web site. Brill review 🤙🏻
What sim was that?
velocidrone cheers
I've flown for 20 odd years and never had marks on my thumbs....?
haha I fly every day for the channel and sometimes this happens when doing a lot of testing. cheers
Expensive ill buy a Jumper and put it on.😁
Nice bed...
Nice review dude. :)
How old are you Andy?
35 thx
mode 1 for the win!!!! haha
the worst about this is the battery. Barely to find or you have to go online and wait a week.
nice
