  • How to create the pattern for a baby onesie - body block - from a basic block.
Using my basic blocks sheet I show you how I create the pattern for a new born baby onesie. In part 2 of the series we will look at how to sew the onesie together.

Love your tutorials- the envelope shoulder is one I've wanted to do for a while (working on a woven top pattern with the envelope shoulder...trying to figure out how to make woven top patterns for toddlers that don't need closures.)

Thanks a lot. If I am stitching for a new born or any of the sizes from your pattern, would it be advisable to cut off 2" on the body? What would you suggest is best, to take 2 inches off or to leave it as it is. Please let me know.

I suggest you make a trial garment in a basic knit fabric to test and perfect the fit. Children vary in size so much so having a test garment allows you to refer back for each style you need.

I would suggest making a toile or a trial garment and go from there, that way you will have a better idea.

Can you please tell me how I make the new born baby style please (its is for a 2 year old with cerebral palsy who is fitted with a peg & G tube feeding so the side pockets would be best but I cant find a video or instructions for that 2nd style you have shown in the picture. Also does the pattern allow for making that style or do adjustments have to be made for that style.
Can you also please tell me where I find the list of what is needed in particular where you but the popper tool from please. I cant find it in the directions (in fact I cant find 'directions' tab. Many thanks

Hi, I do recommend a cross over style for the feeding tubes and easy access, as this is a basic block you can develop any style you choose from the block (sloper) however you will need some pattern cutting skills. The popper machine is from Amazon, there are lot's of versions on there.

How do you work out the actual seam measurements you need, im trying to make some different sizing baby clothes

Hi, I rely very much on experience, the more you practice the easier it becomes and I have worked as a professional pattern cutter for over 30 years so it is now second nature, but use your instinct and we all learn by making mistakes too!

4:17 Hi, I'm a beginner. How many cms or inches does the grid paper pattern dot separates? Is it 1 inch from one dot to another? Thank you.

There are different versions - some are 1" and others just under - the supplied should let you know that before purchase.

Thanks for asking, I am busy writing an online pattern cutting course so my time is very limited at the moment, but there will be a lingerie course coming soon!
