      I am interested in doing the same with a Onefinity Journeyman. It seems the SMC5-5 could replace the Onefinity controller (which has the drivers mounted inside the controller box I suspect) and the external display. If you drop those two pieces off the price of the Onefinity then that's about the same as the SMC5-5 with the drivers and PS would cost and I think in the end you would have a more capable machine overall because of the 4th and 5th axis.

    Roger great video. I really enjoy all of your videos and they have gotten me interested in CNC routers. FYI - I tried using your discount code for Carveco and it did not work. I contacted them and they are fixing the problem. I am building my first CNC router and my SMC 5-5 controller will arrive on Monday 14th. I am a little confused about the pulse per rev setting for the drivers. I know you can use higher pulse per rev settings than your stepper motor to improve accuracy but what is the limit. I am using the same driver type DM542T you have in the video and my stepper motors that I purchased are 200 pulses/per rev @ 1.8 deg per pulse. I was going to use 400 pulses/rev should I use higher pulse rate? How did you arrive at 2000 pulse/rev setting? I cannot find any sites that accurately explains this. Thanks for your help!

    • @rogerwebb9600
      @rogerwebb9600  3 года назад +1

      Hi Scott, this is an example only.
      Formula:
      step per inch = (motor steps * microstepping) / (travel at one turn of the motor in inches)
      if microstepping is set at 16 (1/16 on the driver) then and you are using a sprocket and chain with a pitch of .25 inches and 12 teeth on the drive sprocket
      = (200 * 16) / (12 * .25)
      = 3200 / 3
      = 1066.666 steps per inch
      For lead screw that has a travel of .5 inches at one turn like the 5 start 1/2 inch lead screw and using 4 microsteps per step (1/4):
      = (200 * 4) / (.5)
      = 800 / .5
      = 1600 steps per inch
