Fantastic result , excellent demo, the secret is in the builder not the machine . I watched you put this machine together and your workmanship is second to none . I have a very small 4180 but it’s going to be very long time before I can turn out anything like you just did.
Thanks for sharing Roger i have just purchased a controller the same as this aswell as hybrid nema 34 steppers for a project i am doing nice to see this in action reassuring i have made the right investment Cheers TJ

Hello Roger Like your channel a lot and plan to build MIDI CNC how do you perceive it in relation to your 6040? Are there any drawbacks to use an air cooled spindel compared to a water-cooled? Difference in sound level? Thanks for a very interesting channel .
Hi Roger. Great review. I am currently deciding on a good CNC setup for semi-commercial use, and the SMC looks a great option for a controller. Can you provide a link for a reliable supplier? I have searched around but many of the links a bit dubious.
You didnt show the smc user interface during milling..ie the milling tool path.. I havent see anyone show..the tool path or restarting your milling from given point... ie a restart point.
Please explain why it becomes necessary to home the machine and zero coordinates then go to the center work piece (G 54) at which time zero coordinates, why not move the spindle to work piece then zero?
Hello Roger! Nice machine and controller! I have a question about the controller. When you have a servo controlled spindel motor, is it then possible with this controller to let the spindel go to standard position if you have an atc?
i know Im asking the wrong place but does someone know a way to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the password. I love any help you can offer me.
@Camdyn Zaid Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
there are many people selling SMC 5-5-N-N CNC Controllers, hence which make controller you used, and what could be the price of it approximately. please tell me. thanks. .
I have a Sherline cnc mill that the stepper driver box plugs into the parallel port of a computer. The software that came with the mill is Linux cnc, but I can also use Mach3 on a windows pc. I am wondering if I can hook up the Smc controller to my Sherline mill. If the connector for the hand controller is not a parallel port, and the other one is a serial port, I can use a parallel to serial adaptor to connect it to my mill. I will have to dig deeper into it.
@@rogerwebb9600 I have a Shina MPG with a usb cable. I didn't realize I won't be able to use it when I install the Smc controller on my cnc router. I like how simple your pendant is to use. One dial to select the axis, one to select the speed, and the handwheel. I've seen similar ones that have a safety button on the side you must press so the machine doesn't move if you accidentally bump the handwheel. You would think that with the controller so close to the machine, you wouldn't need a pendant, but it comes in handy if you have to get down close to the work to position the tool accurately. I should be able to find one and wire it up myself as I see there are instructions to connecting a pendant to the SMC on-line. Being a simple pendant, there shouldn't be a lot of wires to connect. Thanks Roger.
Yes, Aspire will write the code for the SMC controller, you will need to select G-code mm (tap) as the post processer Sí, Aspire escribirá el código para el controlador SMC, deberá seleccionar el código G mm (tap) como postprocesador
@@rogerwebb9600 thank you. so, I got Vcarve pro and fusion 360. can I create the Gcodes for this controller? maybe you should make a video about it, because there is a lot of confusion. thanks again for your reply.
Hi. I was considering an offline contoler like this for a lathe. What gcode post processor does it use? I find it very hard to find information on these types of controllers. For example what post would you use in fusions 360?
Hi Steve, the cost was about $1000 all up with all the electronics. It is a MIDI CNC router 400 x 400 x 125mm work area. You should start by seeing all my MIDI CNC router videos in the play list. Looks small, compact, very beautiful!
Got to get my hands on a shirt like his, lol, a patio party conversation piece !

Love the shirt. Where did you get it?
How does it handle a tool change in the gcode?

Hey roger, have you had success setting up a spindle with a vfd through the controller.. i have not figuered it out yet. thanks for the great content.
Hi, in about a month I will be doing this
how do u knw which size bits to use... and cn u keep changing bits? to suit different edges on the same deisgn.
Roger,
Will this controller use inches rather than mm? Thanks,
Chuck in USA
I believe so

You do not need Mach at all

G-code mm (tap) or G-code inch (top) Fusion 360 has this output

Is it possible to use the same controller to run a plasma table?
