- WHY DID I MAKE THIS?? But yeah ringmaster has crackhead energy. Also, sorry for taking so long. I saw a really cool animatic a few weeks ago and it really inspired me to push my ambitions with this one. didn't think it would take that long I promise that my next video will be up a lot sooner!

The Ringmaster being yet another unfortunate victim of The Ancestor's aspirations? Some poor village girl who grew infatuated with him, but unlike those who would become The Hag or Siren, either never caught his attention, or had nothing of value he could use or gain from her. Understanding that he had a fascination with the macabre and dark, she began spilling the blood of others, at first hesitantly, then with vigor, hoping to gain his attention that way. Like-minded individuals, murderers and marauders, came to her, and she eventually created a carnival of carnage, all to hopefully get the attention of The Ancestor.

It is hard to criticize the Ancestor, if u remember when we first finished the level 1 darkest dungeon,he said:"Now, like me, you will see everything as they truly are".After that, everyone in the town sometimes are replaced by terrific monters,even your own roster. That mean in the horrible world of darkest dungeon,folks are no more than filthy,ugly things to the Ancestor.Beside,imagine that you are the Ancestor, can u fall in love with or even show your mercy for that things?

To be fair the whole story of Darkest Dungeon can be summed up as "it was the ancestors fault" so it's not that surprising.

These animatics helped me realize that the Darkest Dungeon could have the potential of being a dark af cartoon.
The Owner of the Circus being in love with the Ancestor is awesome headcannon space. It would make sense why it us so close to the Hamlet.
If so then this is probably the third time The Ancestor woed a girl and turning them into monsters, literally and metaphorically.

It would also explain why she’s creating battles to the death. She’s creating more food for the Heart.

I mean. Realistically that would work. Honestly all the ones that didn't involve violence were reasonable ways of getting people in her circus. Except giving the crusader and plague doctor weed. The crusader is way too much of a goody two shoes to do drugs. The plague doctor has way stronger stuff in her cabinet.

I really wish we got more, or any, lore for the Ringmaster, she has a great design and the fact that she's the ringmaster of a murderhobo circus means she has to have something interesting going on with her past.
A few things cause my thoughts on this are too big for one point:
1.) While I know next to nothing about the Darkest Dungeon Lore, I adore what you do with the characters. They way you draw them and make them emote tells so much about their personalities and I think it’s stupendous.
2.) Holy hell, I’ve never heard this song before but damn have I gotta jump on the bandwagon of whatever musical this is cause it’s great.
3.) I always had the feeling you two were related somehow! Your art styles have always reminded me of each other and you guys art is definitely some of my favorite.

Super late on this reply, but the musical this song is from is called "Make Me Bad"! There's basically _nothing_ about it anywhere from what I can find. The closest to any sort of official recordings of any of it I found was a trailer for the premier production and a couple of songs from it performed at 54 Below. I think there's another song from it on Drew Gasparini's "I Need A Drink" album, though, and there's sheet music available for purchase. Also a mug??? For some reason??? I doubt any of us will get a chance to see the full show any time soon though, sadly. Can't find where to get the performance rights for it anywhere.

I really like the costumes the Highwayman and Jester got when they became a part of the circus. In fact someone needs to make a skin mod where every class gets a Butcher's Circus themed skin or two.

I love all the personality all the characters are given, even in animatic and only having maybe 4 or 5 individual images of the majority of them they are all so incredibly diverse and interesting, honestly amazing how much emotion you can give characters like highwayman when his eyes are black holes and the other 2/3rd of his face is covered with a scarf
I love how theatrical the Ringmaster in here as well as it was balanced by the tragedy of what she had done.
As the Ancestor always says: A brilliant confluence of skill and purpose!
And 2020 just got that bit better with a serial killer circus animatic, honestly this is pretty damn neat

@1.17 Grimdark in writing is when a story centers around horrible events happen to the protagonist and other main characters. Where there is no "happy ending" for the story but a basic concept like survival or guilt, the ending tone of which always feels completely and utterly hopeless.
By it's very nature, Darkest Dungeon is a grimdark story. By extension, so too is the Circus.
A good way to tell if something is grimdark is to ask who won. If the answer is nobody, it is grimdark.

I really have no words. I don’t know what kind of circus (I was honestly expecting Brittany Spears and I don’t know why) to expect but honestly, I adore this song and your take on it. It left me with chills
I can't believe the song itself wasn't written specifically for butcher's circus. It fits so perfectly into the main world, just like the backstory of the next boss.

You two have some similar decisions made with your work, so I was a little confused for a few days between where my memory sat about who was who. Najsigt's work involves more pointed detail and yours more streamlined shapes, now looking at them back to back.
