    Thought I'd share -Every time my bees have ever swarmed or tried to they built swarm cells on bottom 1st and then few days later started a few supercedure cells. I think they get in swarm mode and start swarm cells,then before they done Queens pheremone isn't strong no more because SO many bees they think queen is failing and start Supercedure cells.This is just my theory from what I've witnessed,but if big enough hive mine have done it this way Everytime.Nucs swarmed usually never build supercedure cells after swarm cells, I think cause pheremone still there and not too spread out..this just what I think is going on not sure if this what bees think

    Not very much bees in that top deepbox. You can take that off and just put on the honey super. If you move that hive forward, so that it get more sun, your bees will populate much faster and then fill that honey be filled

    I heard painting with wax & then spraying with sugar water attracts them to the upper supers. My 1st year, so I haven't tried it yet.

      If they don't move up into the next Super or another box for that matter... Take a few frames # out, from the Box with Bees, add them up top, and put those empty frames, back into those taken frame area(s).
      That way bees get drawn up by the 'already used' frames associated nearby here fragrances of Wax, Honey !
      Simples... 😏
      Hope this helps.
      Tip :
      # Smaller Super, Mediums OK to add to deeper box (they will just drawn natural comb on it... No problem this comb, remove later.
      If only Deep Frames with bees on ? Add another Deep Box, place Super Frames at either side, Deeps in the middle. When Supers are drawn out , have attracted enough Bees. Take these out. Remove deep Box, add Super Box, do as above (!) And... those other deeps, use in another Colony to build up population,, or to make a Split etc. (Check where your Queen is in doing so. ) 👀

    With plastic frames i have see where bees simply can not draw it out cause theres not enough wax on them or big gaps between what they do draw out well ever paint a car with out sanding the original paint frist well if you do paint it with out sanding the paint will peel and chip off so point is that the plastic is so smooth that the wax peels off like paint on an unsanded. Paint job

    At 4:00 right in the middle of the frame when you flip it over, is that a capped queen cell that was destroyed after the other queen hatched?

    I hear cotton crystallizes in the frame if you do not get it off in time. Have you had that issue? Ruins your comb, but it's good honey if you watch an pull it before that happens. Is that true?

    I am knew and why don't you want queen cells in your hive, apart from the waste of space arn't more queens good, are ma i totally wrong? And also what is a drone cell and can it be useful sorry to ask so much just need to learn, don't want to kill my first hive!

    • @dfishman76
      @dfishman76  8 лет назад +2

      You try to give the bees enough room so they want try to swarm. The reason you don't want them to swarm is you never know if the queen that replaces the one that swarmed will be a good one or not. If you get a crappy queen then the hive will eventually die out because she will not lay enough eggs to keep the hive going or they will spend all their time trying to replace her. Drones can be a big drag on the hive. All they do is take from the hive. This is more of a problem in the fall than in the summer.

      dfishman76 Sorry, I'm a bit confused by this reply. You want to give them enough room, so they WANT to swarm. But you DON'T want them to swarm in case you get a crappy queen? Am I just not understanding your reply. Ps what was that really loud hissing noise? I thought you had snakes.

    • @dfishman76
      @dfishman76  7 лет назад +1

      +Essem Sween if they swarm and you do not catch the swarm then your know good queen is gone. There is not guarantee that the queen that hatches out will be a good queen. Lots of games tots go into good queens

    Got a question for you if you get a chance to answer. I picked up a nuc 5 frame this last week. When I transferred it to my hive I thought I saw queen cells but didn't check good enough. I inspected my hive today the 5 empty frames all have new comb being built, hive is active no where near full though have, honey, capped larvae and open larvae, didn't see eggs though. Also have 5 queen cells all on the edges, one of which had hatched, did see the new queen but not the original, what are the odds that the hive will still swarm? Is it best to destroy those extra queen cells. Thanks.

    I just watched your video, so I might have missed something. Was this a queenless hive due to a split? I'm a beginner beekeeper with two hives so far, so I've so much to learn. I just inspected a hive I purchased last week and found a queen cell. Should I have done a split or removed the cell?
