Close, but I prefer the former. It's amazing that their best two songs are in my top 25 rock songs of the 80's and I never cared much for anything ese they did -- this one is top 10
One of the most awesome three piece bands ever. One of the best self-titled debut albums. "Who's Behind the Door" also a great song. I also like their followup album "No Telling Lies". "Bears" is an awesome song like this one. Vocalist and guitarist Randy Jackson has an unbelievable range and is as good on guitar as any of the biggest names in the biz. Felix Hannemann plays bass and keyboards. Using a Synclavier, he makes Zebra sound like an 8 piece band or a full orchestra. Guy Gelso rounds out this threesome on the drums and provides some powerful percussion. JM, you are in for a treat when you react to the other songs from Zebra recommended here. Your reactions shows you thoroughly enjoyed this.
Started back in 1975...They adopted the name Zebra after seeing a cover of the magazine Vogue featuring a woman riding a zebra. They were a cover band for Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd in New Orleans and decided to write their own material like this tune.
They are from my hometown of New Orleans! Seen them multiple times at St Christopher's CYO outside of New Orleans! Even saw them when they opened for KISS in the Superdome in 1983! Great band!
My buddy in the Navy used to be lead singer for a band that used to open up for Zebra and Twisted Sister back in Ronkonkoma, NY area. He had great stories to tell about both bands. Loved Zebra from the get-go. (My buddy sang just like Rob Halford, what a killer voice!)
Checkout the song, “No Telling Lies” and Zebra’s homage to John Lennon called, “Lullaby.” Randy’s lyrics and composition are hauntingly Beatlesque, and as good as it gets for a tribute. 40 plus yrs ago, New Orleans own Zebra, (inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame a dozen yrs ago with greats like Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Mahalia Jackson et al) became the greatest Led Zeppelin cover band with only three members. Those New Orleans shows were legendary. Their own material finally, after long yrs of Touring Long Island and surrounding area, resulted in a deal with Atlantic Records. This debut album was Atlantic’s fastest selling debut album in Company history. Guy, Felix and Randy are excellent musicians. Their albums are worth the dive. Shoutout to The Fergdog! ✨
Its sad that Zebra only really has 2 Hits, they are incredible Talents. Man, when this Music hit, this, and Who`s Behind the Door" was all over the Radio Waves!
I'm 65 used to see them in South Louisiana (1976) at a big honkytonk bar in St. Martinville called Slick's they used to play all over the south from Texas to Florida until they started going playing in the North East mostly New York till they moved there then would come down around Mardi Graw season and stay till summer then go back North.
YOU NEED TO DIVE DEEP INTO THE BIBLE OF ZEBRA WHO'S BEHIND THE DOOR, ARABIAN NIGHTS,THE BEAR SONG,TAKE YOUR FINGERS FROM BETWEEN MY HAIR AND THE LA LA SONG ARE ALL STRAIGHT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I would say more Zeppelin than Beatles. I always thought Zebra was a Canadian band, because they got that Canadian rock sound imo., then I found out they were from New Orleans.
This album was the soundtrack for my life during the summer of 1983, which was the summer between my Junior and Senior years in college. Next up should be "Whos's Behind the Door" which is also very different song but was their other hit from this album. I think the whole album is fire, but that song would be the logical next step I love lead vocalists Randy Jackson's power and range how he dives into his falsetto.
Saw them for the very first time when they opened for Survivor and REO Speedwagon back in December 1984 at the UNO Lakefront Arena(New Orleans). Bought their cassette tapes the very next day.
Nope not beatles thank the lord I can't stand the beatles more like led zeppelin with a dash of triumph they were a fantastic zeppelin cover band early in their careers there are several videos on YT of their zeppelin covers.👍✌
This song and "Who's Behind the Door" are their biggest hits. I prefer the latter. Give it a listen.
Close, but I prefer the former. It's amazing that their best two songs are in my top 25 rock songs of the 80's and I never cared much for anything ese they did -- this one is top 10
Love both equally! ❤
Zebra... The most underrated band ever ..!!!!!!!
Check out this whole album!!

❤️STILL SOUNDS GOOD TODAY 💯
40+ YEARS LATER 👍👍
About time you got to this great band take your fingers from my hair wait until the summer's gone bears they have a lot of good songs

Great reaction. Definitely check out "Who's Behind The Door" next!!
This DJ is so cool....
You're not mad. Three of their main influences are The Beatles, Rush, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Yes, those other songs are good, but "Take Your Fingers from My Hair" live is a must! "Bears" is also amazing. One of my favorite bands of all time!
They were from New Orleans I use to see them at high school events in the late 70s They did a lot of Zeppelin covers back then
I'm from Queens. They played a lot of rock clubs back then with Twisted Sister and the Good Rats
They were known more as Zep cover band
This is a deep bench band, was really into them in the 1980's and thru the years a lot of people barely knew how good these guys really were.
I have this album...on cassette tape. Sounds better than a CD anyday but VINYL RULES. This song seriously rocks.
They had two hits this and Who's Behind The Door and i dig both of them but this i like a bit better. Had a really great sound for the early 80's.

Love this band
Yes, I concur with the gent above on "Whose behind the door. " I can't tell you how many people I shared that with.
What a song......🎉
Zebra was a Local Bar band for me ..They KILLED the NY Club scene for years with Twisted Sister from Long Island to Westchester.
i saw these guys live in the mid 80's!!! Great song! They have several really good tunes!
Man when you said this is spiritual I felt that! Good commentary, brother. I love this song and this band.

Written by Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates. For real. Check the writing credits. Great song. Excellent guitar solo.
@jonathanescher2123
Tell Me What You Want was written by Zebra's Randy Jackson.
They were playing that song in their New Orleans club days.
HOMETOWN BOYZ....SEEN EM LIVE MANY TIMES...

Actually sounded more like Robert plant to me from Led zeppelin
Please react to Zebra “Time” found on the 3.V
Did you listen to the entire album?
They were from Jersey
No, they were from New Orleans, but had a big following in New Jersey.
New Orleans own. Inductees (members) in The Louisiana Hall of Fame a dozen yrs ago.
They also had a huge following on long island.
Saw them for the very first time when they opened for Survivor and REO Speedwagon back in December 1984 at the UNO Lakefront Arena(New Orleans).

BTW JM.... You possess very uncommon Commonsense... just sayin'

我鍾意彈呢首歌嘅低音線!好穩定嘅節奏!流暢!
They were compared to Led Zeppelin, and No bass, it's the keyboard player, Felix
Felix plays both bass and keyboards depending on what song they are playing
