Same here. I first heard it on a live cassette back in like 1991 or something like that, but with Helloween not being a big hit in the US, I couldn't ever find anything else by them so I lost track of them until a few years ago when I found out they "reunited". This song still is an anthem for me.

I have another suggestion...Want to hear a popular Japanese metal band from the 80's? You need to check out the band, 'Loudness' and listen to the videos of either 'Crazy Nights' (HD version) or 'Let It Go' (Remastered)'. Helloween tend to make quite long masterpieces (Halloween, The King For 1000 Years, Keeper Of The Seven Keys, etc.) which might not suit your channel, but some of the shorter good ones with Michael Kiske on vocals are Dr. Stein, Kids Of The Century, Your Turn, Future World, We Got The Right, A Tale That Wasn't Right & A Little Time.

Now that you've watched "This is Spinal Tap", (I loved your reaction to that one), you know how important it is to be "big in Japan". And that brings me back to Lovebites. One of my favorites by Lovebites is their live version of their original song "Holy War"'. Helloween is from (West) Germany and one of the pioneers of power metal - fantasy lyrics, high vocals, melodic twin guitars, double bass drumming... In the 80's, Helloween had the potential to be as big as Iron Maiden (whose managers handled Helloween)... and they hired a phenomenal lead vocalist in 1987 - Michael Kiske... who did this record.
However, creative conflicts... infighting... poor musical choices... and label problems in the 90's pushed Helloween into obscurity. They regrouped in 1994 and carried on w/ vocalist Andi Deris, but they could never reach the success of Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.
Formed in Hamburg, Germany... Helloween was originally Kai Hansen (vocals & guitar), Michael Weikath (guitar), Markus Grosskopf (bass) and Ingo Schwichtenberg (drums) ... They released an EP in 1984, followed by the album 'Walls of Jericho' in 1985... Signing to a worldwide deal by 1987, Kai Hansen decided to hand over the vocals to a frontman, and they hired 18-yr old Michael Kiske (lead vocals) for the dual albums 'Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1' (1987) and 'Keeper of the Seven Keys part II' (1988) - both albums became huge global successes, even bringing Helloween to America.
Unfortunately, there were problems in Helloween... guitarist Kai Hansen wrote 'I want out' ... about his frustrations in the band and even though it became a successful Helloween single, he quit the band in 1989 to form his own metal band Gamma Ray. He had a successful career w/ them... debuting in 1990 w/ the album 'Heading for tomorrow'...
Without Kai Hansen's songwriting, and 90's grunge taking over... Helloween was left without a US record label by 1991... Roland Grapow (guitar) replaced Hansen and the band opted to go for a humorous album 'Pink bubbles go ape' in '91... and then incorporated pop rock influences on the album 'Chameleon' in 1993... The album was a disaster; vocalist Michael Kiske was fired ... and drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg also left the band. The original Helloween drummer ended his own life in 1995 (R.I.P.)
Helloween opted to return to their power metal sound in 1994 w/ Andi Deris (vocals) ... Uli Kusch (drums) joining for the 1994 album 'Master of the Rings'... followed by 'The Time of the Oath' (1996)... 'Better than Raw' (1998) and 'The Dark Ride' (2000) ... Both guitarist Roland Grapow and drummer Uli Kusch were fired in 2002 and Helloween recruited Sasha Gerstner (guitar) and released "Rabbit don't come easy" in 2003... Dani Loble (drums) joined in 2005... The revisited the world of 'Keeper of the Seven Keys' in '05 w/ the double album 'Keeper of the Seven Keys - The Legacy'.
Helloween carried on recording and touring until 2018, when they announced that the band was reuniting w/ both Kai Hansen (guitar) and Michael Kiske (vocals) to make Helloween a 7-man band... Amazingly, Andi Deris and Michael Kiske also became best friends and shared vocals w/ Helloween on stage and in the studio... Their self-titled album was released in 2021.
Some more Helloween classics - 'Future world' ... 'Halloween' (unedited version)... 'Eagle fly free' ... 'Dr. Stein' ... 'Ride the sky' ... 'Kids of the Century'... 🎃🎃🎃🎃🤘🤘
Later Helloween classics w/ Andi Deris on vocals - 'Sole survivor' ... 'Forever & one' ... 'I can' ... 'Push' ... 'Mr. Torture' ... 'In the middle of a heartbeat' ... 'Open your life'... 🎃🎃🎃🎃🤘🤘

I first found this band from this video being played on MTV on Headbanger's Ball when it first came out. Loved the band immediately. This is off of Keeper Of The Seven Keys - Part 2. For an epic song, try the title track, it's approximately 15 minutes and what a beautiful story it tells. A must for late October is the song Halloween by Helloween.

I remember when they played this on the Headbangers ball on MTV. Came out in 1988. Same year as Die Hard and being German and having long hair, they kind, they of looked like certain members of Hans Gruber’s Crew:)

You should check out a band called Lovebites. Helloween is listed as one of there influences and they even have a cover of Eagle Fly Free. I recommend Hammer Of Wrath, live performance from Knockin' At Heavens Gate. They are a mixture of Helloween, Iron Maiden, and Metallica in my opinion. I know you will like them and so will the people. Give the people what they want.

YES!!!! Helloween, Keeper Of The Seven Keys is mandatory. It should be the next song by them. I also suggest Eagle Fly Free and I'm Alive if you want to get your heart rate going.

"Eagle Fly Free" is another great one from these guys. And anything from Keeper of the seven Keys pt 2....especially live. Regardless of which singer you have they are great. Michael Kiske is the singer on this one. Andi Deris replaced him for a while, until the band reunited a few years ago. They also have another killer vocalist in Kai Hansen (the pink guitarist in this video) he was their original vocalist. Check out their catalog, you won't be disappointed.

At this point in time of the band, Helloween was :
    • Michael Kiske = vcoals
    • Michael Weikath = guitars
    • Kai Hansen = lead guitar and vocals - Hansen was also lead vocalist before Kiske, on the debut release : an eponymous EP in 1985, and full album, Walls Of Jericho and standalone single Judas (was not on the WOJ album, and was not released til several months after WOJ) in 1986 - their heaviest stuff at the time)
    • Marcus Großkopf (Grosskopf) = bass
    • Ingo Schwichtenberg = drums
This song is from the 1988 album Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II, which followed Part I (released in 1987). Keeper was supposed to be a double album but the record label said no (due to some contractual technicalities or whatever - just more power-trippin corporate bullsh*t), and forced them to releases the material as 2 separate volumes.
It wasn't even a balanced split ; Part I only clocked in at around 37 minutes with 7 tracks (or 8, if you consider the introduction track separate), while Part II was over 55 minutes and 8 tracks (or, again, 9, if you consider the opening intro track to stand on its own).
Part I features their epic almost-14-minute song Halloween, and Part II has the title track which also runs nearly the same length (between 13 and 14 minutes).
Both are worth a reaction, but AVOID the official video for Halloween ; it has been butchered down to "radio friendly" single-edit format (and a sloppy mix) of a lousy 5 minutes.

Wow, what a really good surprise ! Helloween is one of the greatest european Metal bands and their lead singer at the time was Michael Kiske. This band has a lot of great bangers: "I Want Out", of course, but also "Eagle Fly Free", "Dr. Stein", "A Tale That Wasn't Right", "Future World". Helloween had another lead singer called Andy Deris since the mid-90's and with him, they did great songs like "Perfect Gentleman", "Power" (this song is a fantastic anthem), "I Can".
Besides Helloween, there are a lot of great European Metal bands from the 80's & 90's. You could eventually check out these ones:
    - Accept: "Balls To The Walls", "Fast As A Shark", "Restless And Wild", "Princess Of A Dawn", "Midnight Mover"
    - Warlock: "All We Are", "East Meets West"
    - Bonfire: "Sword And Stone", "Ready 4 Reaction", "American Nights", "Hard On Me"
    - Pretty Maids (a Danish band): "Future World", "Back To Back", "Red Hot And Heavy", "Love Games", "Rodeo", "Hell On High Heels"
    - TNT (a Norwegian band): "10000 Lovers (In One)", "Everyone's A Star", Intuition"
    - Gamma Ray: "Heaven Can Wait", "Space Eater"
