My one nephew and his twin brother decided to set off a play airplane that could fly with gasoline. When the gas was lit, the fumes from the gas lit both of his legs on fire. 3rd degree burns on almost half of his body at 12. He was life flighted out to a pediatric burn unit for months suffering from surgeries, many skin grafts and scrubbings of the necrotic skin tissue. He will forever carry the massive leg scars all over his legs. As an adult he trained and became a paramedic, ambulance driver and firefighter. Bless him, I am so proud of his tenacity!

Oh boy. No matter how much you tell a child they will twiddle knobs and open oven doors. I suggest a lock for the oven door to be put on when you've taken the roast out.
Smoke alarm is a great idea, but not enough. So thankful that you are all ok. 🥰

Our duplex went up in a blaze when our renter smoked a cigarette . They threw a cigarette butt in a container and wind blew it over and it caught their old couch under the carport and a blaze of fire went into the vent into the attic and it was a lose. Still working to get the apartment back in shape. Took down to the studs. My son lives in the attached apartment and the firemen saved it. Hallelujah for that. It's so scary.

When I was 9 years old our landlord lived downstairs. She was popping popcorn and the grease flew out of the pan and caught her curtains on fire. I was actually in the bathtub when all the commotion started. I could see smoke coming up through the floors and we had the hardest time getting my mom and our 2 dogs out of the apartment. She was in shock and she was petrified to walk past the entry door to the landlords apartment because by then her place was fully in golfed inflames. Our whole family was separated and were living apart for months afterwards. We lost our two dogs😢 Fire is nothing to mess with. So happy no real damage was done to your home 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

This is my biggest fear. (In Canada) there should be a smoke detector on every floor. If you do have a separate co detector it should be closer to the floor, but the smoke detector should be at the top . If combined, then they are usually at the top, exactly as you showed. Every home should also have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and by sources of fires. There should be an evacuation plan as well. I am so grateful that you were home before anything bad happened.

Fire is a scary word for everyone! Our parents were rarely home due to dad working two jobs and mom in hospitals. When my older pyro brother was a teenager, he thought making fires were very fascinating until the day in his bedroom trashcan got way out of hand. I heard all of this running and scurrying about and came out of my bedroom. He was so very lucky it was a metal, not plastic trashcan, that nothing was electrical or chemical causing the fire, so plain water took care of the high and raging fire! The ceiling was black from the smoke, and smell lingered long enough for dad to settle things on his bottom when he came home from work!

Thankful you all are safe. Several years ago some one set my Grandmas house on fire at the time she was watching three of my cousins and someone lite her house on fire, she didn't have a fire alarm either. By the time the fire fighters got to her home it was totally engulfed with flames, tbey tried their best to rescue them all but it was to far gone and we lost my Grandma and my 3 cousins. This was extremely devistating to our whole family. The Fire Inspector and Police Detectives never found out who started the fire. This has forever changed our lifes. If my Grandma would have had a fire alarm it would have alerted my Grandma before the fire was out of control. This is an example of how fast fire can spread and how impotant it is to have a fire alarm. Again I'm so thankful you all are okay. Bless you and your family. 💙❤💚

God bless your little boy and you and your wife, I was lucky enough to raise two healthy children, but to be honest any simple illness, with my children ,left me being sick with worry, I can not begin to know how hard it was watching your child with such a serious illness, my mum died of cancer (hence my fears) when I was little, to this day I remember watching it happen, she was in the Royal Marsden, , I know and understand and feel your fear , I'm approaching becoming a pensioner now, but stilll react to the word cancer, what I would say is, cancer is far more treatable now , your little boy is a ray of sunshine, cheeky , mischievous and a joy to watch, when you have seen cancer first hand you will always be affected, the hardest thing is move on, I don't think you ever will, your a wonderful daddy, you will always worry, you just need to manage your worries,, my love to you and your family

Hi, I live in Apartments in an upstairs unit. The neighbor downstairs’ came pounding on my door to say that their kitchen was on fire, I ran next door to the other unit (we are in a unit of 4) as the neighbor below me ran to the other unit down stairs. We all got out safely, but they lost a lot and we got major smoke damage. What a mess. All because they didn’t keep up on the smoke detector battery change every few months or so. Please don’t forget to maintain your smoke detectors if you have any and get smoke detectors if you don’t have any. This can be life saving. Take care everyone and be safe!

Fire drills! Pick a safe place out in the backyard as a meeting place in case of fire. This makes sure that everyone, furfamily too, is out and safe or that someone needs help getting out from the fire brigade. Teach him as he grows that you don't go back into a burning building. You don't go back for the dog. You don't go back for baby dolls and toys. You don't hide under a bed or in a closet. (kids do that) You dial 911 (or whatever your emergency number is) . As Teddy grows he will know what to do and will do it in an emergency. We practiced with our son at least once a month. We also took him to the local fire hall to meet our first responders and see what they do in case of fire. They were wonderful. They also have a mini house that kids can go through with real smoke (safe to breath) to teach them to crawl and breathe the safest air nearest the floor and to find the exit under difficult circumstances. Ky's room was on the 2nd floor and we had a rope ladder designed to throw out the window hooked to the window sill. Fire is scary. Toddlers get into everything in a heartbeat. No one is perfect and kids can get into dangerous situations very quickly. I walked into my son's room when it just seemed too quiet. He was in bed under a blanket tent he'd built reading by candle light!!! Thank you for the reminder to families about fire safety. Your family is amazing. You are all in as parents and it shows in Teddy who is confident, happy, and by God's grace, healthy. Be well and continue to raise your little family. God bless.

Thank goodness everything worked out, so scary. We live in rural Australia and the threat of catastrophic bushfire is a summer norm. Fire is so quick & destructive. Our houses are all fitted with hardwired and battery smoke alarms and the 1st April is national Check/Replace Smoke Alarms. It’s a legal requirement for these to be fitted in all rentals, new builds and businesses - this has saved many lives and properties. Thanks for raising awareness that little inquisitive minds and fingers, don’t understand the dangers lurking. Ps how good 500+ days are winning 🏆 ❤

My daughter was 3 and I turned my back for a second and she touched the burner on the electric stove..this was the older stove with the burners sticking up..
Just that short of time burned her hand bad..
I ran her hand under water and then ran her to ER
I was right next to her..the burner was turned off but still hot..
I went out and bought covers for the burners..
My son Ryan loved to show me that he could get outlet covers off..lol

This didn’t happen to me, but my sister.
She had to work a night shift and her 15 year old daughter was babysitting her 2 year old.
My niece said that something woke her up, she went to the kitchen area and the entire wall was on fire. She had enough presents of mind to go get the 2 year old, wrap blankets around them and ran across the street to get them to call.
The house and contents were a total loss, but the kids made it out and my sister never accepted a night shift again
I need to add that I’m not in need of smoke detectors, I just replaced all of mine as they reached the ten year limit

I had a time years ago when my brother was having a bonfire. It was next to our hut. He added methylated alcohol to ignite the fire and it caught a plastic bucket that melted and caught the wood on the hut. Luckily the wood was wet from the rain . There were gas canisters for a camping stove in the hut. We called the fire brigade but I also knew we had to smother the flames and I grabbed a pair of curtains and put over the flames but they were flammable and they caught light too. Next we shovelled earth on the flames which did the trick so it was mostly out by the time the brigade got there and we saved the hut and the house too probably. It was really scary but funnily enough at the time my prized bike was in there too and that was my first thought well I was only a teenager. Never mind that there could have been a gas explosion. I’m in my 60s now but I have learned a lot from that plus never forgot it either

I am terrified of house fires. When I was young I lost 3 family members in a house fire. There was my 2 cousins (adults) and their 3 children in the house. The kids found some matches, was playing with them and accidentally lit the bed on fire. It was a devastating fire. It ended up taking the lives of the mother and father and the youngest child. The other 2 children suffered major burns and physiological and depression the rest of their lives. They are also gone now. One of them took his on life and then one passed away from a catastrophic heart attack.
The whole family was devastated 😢

Hi Scott and Katie, two years ago my three grandsons were home alone when the rechargeable battery in my eldest grandson’s 23 years remote control car blew up blowing out his bedroom window and parents’ bedroom window. He had just gone downstairs to make something to eat and his two younger brothers 13 and 15 were asleep in the furthest bedroom with the fire between them and the stairs. Luckily they managed to get out safely. If my eldest grandson hadn’t left his room he would have been killed by the blast. Their whole house caught fire and had to be rebuilt. The trauma was so bad for them that they sold the house. Fire is so dangerous! Thank goodness your family are also safe. It is right to teach Teddy what to do in case of fire. When my children were little we also had a fire plan in place which at ages 3, 4 and 5 they all knew well. We also did fire drills to show them what to do in real time. I love your vlogs and feel so much joy at seeing Teddy’s progress and cheeky little face. ❤

I quickly turned off the oven but all of a sudden it made a loud explosion noise and packing blew out on fire. It quickly smoldered out. The smell was awful but we were okay accept it threw my foster brother into a asthma attack. It was a scary moment.

When I was 11 years old my nana had started boiling soup bones to help with meals. Only problem was we lived in a large apartment above my parents cafe in Blackpool. Nana had wandered off forgetting what she had started, my mom came upstairs to find the pot had burst into flames and she had to get a damp towel to smother the flames. Our dog was in the dining room next to the kitchen every time, 3 times my nana did this, and 3 times I was upstairs in my bedroom where I couldn’t escape from. I was in the south west corner of our apartment, and the kitchen was in the north east, it would have been too late to escape for me because the interior stairs were close by the kitchen. My mom was livid, and nana wasn’t allowed to cook anymore! I was only told this recently.

Years ago we had a propane stove with the knobs on the front. I had brand new bakeware sitting on top of the stove and without realizing it my husband leaned against the knows and when he moved the element turned on. Several minutes later we could smell so.ething burning. It was the new bakeware. Lucky for us we discovered it before anything caught fire it was so close. Our children were taught that we're not to touch the stove and my husband was not to lean on it anymore.

Could you for extra protection in the kitchen buy a couple of those mesh baby gates to put at each end of the kitchen benches to stop Teddy from being able to have access to the area altogether or put a gate up in the doorway as you go into the kitchen, because even if you've taken the hotplate dial away he could still turn the others on when your not looking then the gas would be flowing through the house which is unsafe as well.

Fortunately Ive not had a home fire scare but I did have a car catch fire while on my way to work on a dark country road. Once i realized there was smoke coming through the vents I abandoned the car and had to figure out which way to run for help. Once i found a house the owner almost acted like he didn't believe me but when he got to the car and opened the driver's door the flames shot out. The car was a total loss but although a bit shaken up I was fine.

Very lucky you weren’t away for a long while! Curious boys will be boys and want to touch everything They should make some kind of lock for the dials so small children can’t turn them

When I was a teenager myself and my boyfriend at the time, made chips in a pan on the stove in his farmhouse, his parents were out and we stupidly left it for a short while, it over spilled and everything around it was on fire, we were not sure what to do and panicked and was about to throw water on the chip pan, when a newigbour came in shouting NO, we found the fire extinguisher and started putting it out when the fire brigade came, it really frightened us, at how quickly it happened, I'm in a wheelchair now and wouldn't be able to get out quick, I really should have one of these,, I'm so glad you are all OK. Love watching your videos, it's the highlight for me twice a week, Teddy is so clever. Lyn Xx

I would get rid of the gas hob and buy an induction hob because they don't start heating up plans unless they have a magnetic connect with a saucepan which I would say is the best thing to have when you have young kids in the house

So grateful for what you did . Can remember so we'll a similar event happened to me ,at the time had two small kids . I left a electric ring on and my oven gloves caught fire , which escalated to my cupboards catching fire. A fault of my own as I didn't have an fire alarm . Left me with intense anxiety 20 years later. Have grandkids now and their lives are so precious. ❤

I always enjoy watching you explore with Teddy and Willow…..btw…..how old is Willow? I am always so impressed by how well behaved she is…..did you do any formal training with her when she was a puppy? And she gets along so well with Teddy….golden retrievers are such a great breed for families with young children. Keep up the great vlogs….I LOVE following your adventures!

    Thank goodness y'all are safe.
Scott I took my smoke down to remove battery cause it always went off when cooking. It would drive me crazy.
Now I think I should put it back up. Maybe mine was defect . We're staying in a small RV right now cause of the hurricane if this place caught fire it go up in 2 min. That detector is carbon too that's heart cause camper has propane also with winter coming staying in RV not sure how we're going heat it. But I'll definitely be looking into that detector maybe it will work for my tiny home.
Again I'm so thankful y'all are all safe. Much luv from fl

I would if at all possible change the stove to one with the knobs on the top . My daughter had a fire with one of her daughters leaving her back pack on the stove , another child turned a knob , and in no time the bag was on fire . Luckily they discovered it quite quickly . But have removed all the knobs and only put them on when in use , until they can buy a stove with knobs on the back !
I would train Teddy to run out of the house FIRST before he finds you . Have a meeting place outside .
I had a small frying pan fire one morning . My daughter shouted fire , her and her sisters immediately walked out of the house , they did just the right thing . E en in their pjs !

I had to remove my stove knobs because my cat could push them on and the electric heat pad would turn on
