With love, unforgettable Daevid
martin take of the blinkers martin there are lots of bands past and present i love gong but also many other like minded bands like third ear band magma ect
Martin Pirint - Yeah, and there's so much great music all the different Gong bands, and different Daevid Allen projects made! Fantastic music. Great ideas, artists, and everything they stood for. A little spliff, a cup of tea, something to read, + some Daevid Allen/Gong(s) etc... I'm not shure how many studio- and live-albums Daevid Allen and friends made, but it must be around a 100 or more! And I never heard one bad song. Not one! Everything they made was just amazing.. This music has given me many magic hours of listening & enjoying! A BIG THANX FROM HOLLAND! *RIP Gilly & Daevid*
this was from a tv show called bedrock hawkwind did a show on there too , great to see Gong and Here and Now band together again , makes me think of those great free festivals of summers past
What a treat, this live video of Gong made my evening, after having been listening to them for so many years, I've never seen them live, awesome Thank you ! Loved it 💕💞❤💘💯💫💥🤟👊🤙🙏
i still love gong the vibe the spirit the whole world is mad but we can play we can dance act mad or are we mad while we trip on a carpet of sight. wonderfull
Superb Band,,, I love the vinyl from them that I collected in 70s n 80s, and ive collected the CDs since,,, but I would love to see this sort of band go back to making albums on vinyl, like the old days,,,,,
I got my nickname “OctaveDoctor” from this band. When I was studying guitar making back in 1975 all my fellow students with a couple of exceptions were “hippies and freaks” but I was the only one with a background in science and technology who could explain the maths behind equal temperament and constant ratio fretting. One of them nicknamed me the octave doctor. I was a big Steve Hillage fan so I ran with it. I went to see them at Cardiff Uni students union. I’ve never done weed in my life but there was so much passive in the air I floated out of there after the gig.
Very cool creative wonderful wizards of magic n music..these musicians are great as are the costumes and performances they are so super n skilled at...actually these cats are extremely excellent musicians from the planet Mushroom 23...a welcome change to listen to...especially so much cooler & better than the manufactured low talent crap music we have these days...lets hope that more bands like this amazing good group of fantastic incredible rebels will soon come along...thanks for posting this..
love this band, seen them years ago in Cleveland,Oh, where! I don't remember,I didn't drive and I was loaded but great show that much I do remember, goin home hell no!!
best version of that "have a cup o tea havin a cup of tea have a cup of tea havin a cup of tea" on youtube, brilliant live extended jam into Inner Temple, just bliss. fucking TWINK on synths. love love love
Steve hillage was the signature sound in the early years, but to me the soul has always been piano chords and saxophone harmony with the sic bass riffs.
Don't forget Daevid's Glissando guitar! Those long melodic sounds are... so important to the sound as well. As well as the man himself. One of a kind. Unique. Inspiring. Missed... but Very Much Loved! *RIP Daevid & Gilly*
I was lucky enuf to become friends with Daevid and Gilli in the 90s .... DEAR FRIENDS I MISS YOU !!! SEE YOU ON THE MOON TOWER !!! Trust me ...where ever they are (PLANET GONG) they are making it the best place ever ! BERT CAMEMBERT
Saw them in Glasgow the following Spring (1991), as "Gong Maison"~ playing the Classics, and the "Floating Anarchy" Set from '77 (same line~up as this, except without Gilli and Pip) Daevid was meditating in the 'Vitruvian Man' posture off~Stage for 10,15 minutes (while the Band built up a tremendous wall of Sound) in full Wizard Costume building up the Energy before getting onstage.(and then this one was broadcast shortly after). Good Days. Bless You Daevid and Gilli, Bless You all. 🖖💜✨🃏🎭🌚🌈🎼🎶🎵🎸🎹🥁🎷🎶🎙🎶🎵🎶🕉♒🏳️🌈⛾♾
Wow you can remember that well! I was at the Glasgow ‘91 gig and possibly one in Edinburgh the following year, or was it 3 years later, or maybe I imagined it?
I doubt that Daevid is "resting" in peace (RIP - not!) these days. Rather, he's very busy joining-up with his friends he'd been trying to tell us about for forty-plus years, and now he's helping bring down this prison planet from the outside, just like he'd been trying to bring it down from the inside while he was still alive. That's why we're still here and "alive" folks, to bring it down from the inside while we still have time. "...you are I and I am you..." omni-dimensional.
The last five lsd trips I've met his friends. They take over the t.v music and people. Someone I met that has had my exact experience told me gong is the human form of those beings. So I've come here to check them out and I can see what he means.
Un ange nous a quitté!! DAEVID ALLEN 13th January 1938 - 13th March 2015 It is with great sadness that we report the passing away of the great Daevid Allen, for many years the leading light in the anarchic collective Gong. Daevid lost his long battle with cancer, and the world is a little less sunlit as a result. Daevid Allen was the kind of mercurial, inspiring individual whose free-thinking nature positively touched the lives of all who came into his orbit. When the Australian-born Allen first arrived in England in late 1960, he ended up as a lodger in the home of Robert Wyatt’s parents; the first Beatnik to be seen in the Kent countryside. Allen brought a glimpse of a different world and way of living to Wyatt and his friends, and later, as a founder-member of British psychedelic pioneers Soft Machine, added his unique vision to British rock music at the time. It is as a founder-member of the sprawling collective Gong that Allen will be most closely associated; born out of the Paris Spring Commune of 1968, their debut album Camembert Electrique was memorably released in the UK in 1974 on the nascent Virgin Records label for the price of a vinyl single. Gong were never blessed with a stable line-up; Allen left the band in the mid-seventies, but reformed Gong in the early nineties. The latest Gong album - I See You - was released late in 2014, and was greeted with universally glowing reviews, a brilliant restatement of Allen and the band’s enduring musical and lyrical values. Although Daevid Allen’s death at the age of seventy-seven is a sad loss, his lasting legacy - an unapologetic desire to live, explore, entertain and inform through his remarkable body of work, outside of the world of the everyday - will live on.
TIP: ALL FUTURE FILMING OF CONCERTS should feature SPLIT SCREEN (etc) or double exposure. Let me watch MANY musicians at the same time, so i can choose.
So unique. I have just learned a lesson. Do not waste your gift to life. Offer and share strong everywhere now as we are coming to make a new world if we stay strong. bye bye love you see you there
I wasn't keen on this when I saw it on the telly when first broadcast and watching this again now I'm still not convinced (though it sounds better if you don't watch it). Admittedly TV post production and all that doesn't help (some bad editing - half only of Radio Gnome!!) but as someone said below to the chagrin of many 'this is Gong in Butlins holiday camp mode playing essentially safe versions of their classic songs' however, at that time I'd long lost my love of Gong having once been a massive fan. The spark has recently been rekindled and I've sought out various live performances. There are a couple of shows on RUclips from tours in the USA in 1997 with both Pierre Moerlin (presumably replacing Pip Pyle due to health issues?) and Mike Howlett where the performance and spirit of the original band is entirely intact - wonderful stuff.
Nice to see all the Gong lovers here.P.H.P..
Rest in Peace Pip Pyle and the genius that was Daevid Allen. You gave so much pleasure to so many people! Love and Peas!
Absolutely the best psychodelic rock band ever. The concert looks very crazy.
I saw them in London just before Daevid Allen died. Steve Hillage even did the support spot. Was amazing. Just nothing like it about today.
Today is still great though. Seeing them in October, and I hear that they are amazing.
merci Daevid Allen pour cette formidable musique et joie de vie
Great musicianship, humor, spaced-out weirdness and boundless inventiveness. Where can you find that today, combined to such a degree?
Acid and Gong, sweet memories! 63 now still alive.
Keep kicking...see you on Planet GONG.
Just 💕 GONG. Bye pot head pixies...... see you again on planet gong.
