Mia Zapata will be remembered here in SW Ohio. I'm from Cincinnati and got nothing but respect for the Memory of this incredibly talented Dayton Girl. R.I.P. Mia Baby!!!
i'm from greece...and last night I watched a documanter on tv about Mia's murder ..and how they investigate this cold case....NOW I'm a huge fan of her...RIP Mia...you were wonderfull!!!
I just watched City Confidential an learned of this story with Mia. I'm a musician myself I think it sucks that I had to learn about her & The Grits music through a show that centered around Mia death. I listen an I hear this beautiful talent. 27 forever an this music should never be forgotton
mia was born and raised in louisville,ky.she is burried in cave hill cemetary on bardstown road.think i will go out there tomorrow and pay her a visit.
One hell of a band, Sometimes sad, sometimes sensitive, sometimes rough, but always real and on 100 pct. Their Seafish Luisville album is one of my all time favorite live recordings.
wow i just watched 48 hours mystery and it compelled me to look up mia. i was a soon to be sr in high school when this beautiful and talented woman was murdered. makes me sad to know she was denied stardom she was true grunge. god hold you in his hands.
To be honest guys, I had NOT heard of the GITS until the tragic news of Mia's murder appeared on the news.. There I admit this.. What sucks is that there are a bunch of possers on youtube claiming to "have been fans of Mia and the gits" way back when..
I followed the trial. I was so relieved when her murderer was brought to justice. So many criminals get away with violence and murder. Rest In Peace Mia. You left a legacy, but I can't help but wonder what more you would have accomplished.
At first I felt similar, but I really ended up getting into The Gits after just listening a few times. I don't think about it, because I don't think she was writing premonitions, and if she was, she probably was'nt aware. And, the snake is trapped, so why focus on bad , if you listen to it long enough , it does'nt have a overshadowing of doom, it's just really good music :) I shed my tears, now I just listen to what is left. I suppose I feel like it should stand on it's own?
Either that or they're punks who read Flipside and MRR. The Gits were famous in the underground (still are) in their own right as one of the top punk bands ever, irrelative of Mia's tragic death.
I would'nt even put courtney in the same category as Mia, and I like hole. I don't even have a love for the genre, but Mia was a kick ass poet, and her voice is something that I believe the entire world would have recognized in this bands' unfortunate non- existent future progressions. By the way for everyone: why ever focus on scant moments of a life ending tragically instead of the pinnacle of living, what the person left, how they affected the world. I don't think of heroin when I hear janis
True. But I think because it was such a brutal killing, and she was a such a beautiful soul and promising singer, that most people can't or won't get over the loss. But I agree, aldo the killing is hard to forget, never forget who she was and what she gave to the world.. *VIVA MIA!*
Good point, but the way she was killed was so terrible, it disturbs people and gets stuck in their heads. It's kinda hard not to think about how she was murdered - at least for me - when I listen to the Gits.
Mia's killer just died of Covid, so who knows... I watched a lot of NDE experiences lately, and I truly believe that if people don't get justice in this life, they'll get it in the afterlife... Or they pay in the next life.
@mariosweetleaf i Know music just hasn't been the same these past few years. today it just seems like music lost most of its soul to it R.I.P good 90's rock LOL
Maybe if Mia was there for the mixing process, her vocals would not be so buried in the mix. Sounds like a guitar player mixed it. Mia was amazing. God rest her soul.
Such a tragic & evil murder! Her story has never left me, & when Jesus Mezquia was tried, convicted & sentenced to 36 years in prison by DNA evidence, only then could I get a sounder-night of sleep! ~MiaZ1993~
@mariosweetleaf yea i know how you feel it just seems like music now is all beats and bass and no lyrics all they say is the same shit again and again and they only play like the same 5 songs on the radio aswell no talent even just all producers and shit!!!
i'm wondering why you say this as i'm investigating Love's links to several deaths and think maybe there was some connection with zapata's murder. but unlike the other deaths, i don't have any evidence between love and zapata. do you?
RIP wonderful Woman and Music
..22 years later..
A huge thank to the gits and to Mia Zapata. We'll all remember you.
So Talented of a Singer!,and So Loved as a Person!,27 Years Later Your Music Lives On!,Thank You Mia!
Mia Zapata will be remembered here in SW Ohio. I'm from Cincinnati and got nothing but respect for the Memory of this incredibly talented Dayton Girl. R.I.P. Mia Baby!!!
Great song, The Gits were an awesome band, Mia Zapata is the best woman in rock I know so far. R.I.P.
My favorite Gits song. Mia was such a talent - it's tragic, even all these years later.
i'm from greece...and last night I watched a documanter on tv about Mia's murder ..and how they investigate this cold case....NOW I'm a huge fan of her...RIP Mia...you were wonderfull!!!
Μπράβο και εγώ νόμιζα ότι ο μόνος που του ήξερε ....♥️

this band changed my life
Been into The gits for a few months now, can't believe she was murdered, it's so tragic.
As you can see, even in Belgium she is not forgotten...
Or in Holland...
Or in Norway...
or in France...

R.I.P Mia
God Bless her, she was the modern day Janis Joplin. R.I.P. you precious Soul.
Miss you Mia! Your voice, the Gits's music! Mia was a beautiful human being, a true artist, 100 0000 000 better than a "Courtney Love"!!!
Totally agreed! PS - I just heard that her killer died of Covid.
holy crap this sounds good.
To be honest guys, I had NOT heard of the GITS

Happy Birthday, cuz. Love you and VIVA ZAPATA!!!

ΜΙΑ αγαπη και ζωη σε μας...
ΔΟΞΑ ΔΤΡΑΜΑΣ 4
Wish I could met this girl. I think we had alot in common.
Shades of janis joplin. Another member of the 27 club, amazing talent, gone before she reached her full potential......

Es kommt diese Nacht, in Deutschland , im Fernsehen. Das war ein sinnloser Mord, an einer wundervollen Frau. Traurig.

Mia Zapata was Mia Zapata (a GIT and a unique individual) she doesn't beong to any nation -- a truck load of talent that was wasted
Send my love if you go again...
AND.. the universe has a way of taking care of injustices. It is just rarely apparent to all or any. Trust that. oh yes....
Mia's killer just died of Covid, so who knows... I watched a lot of NDE experiences lately, and I truly believe that if people don't get justice in this life, they'll get it in the afterlife... Or they pay in the next life.

Remember Mia
Sorry, I did not know that.
No reason to hate this video though...
grande Zapata!
VIVA ZAPATA! x3
that might've been true, if this album didn't come out before she died.
Mia Zapata and Courtney Love are the two best female vocalists that ever lived
@RandELaFountaine yea besides..kurt wrote alot of courtneys mid90s music anyway.. I liked pretty on the inside A lot though
the wrong female vocalist died in 1993.
died at 27
I agree.
