I’ve been scouring the webs for good info on building solid surface tops. I kinda got thrown into this profession just because I’m a trim carpenter. Go figure I love wood but nonetheless I’m here. A year or two some fairly straight forward kitchens and commercial bathroom vanities until now. 100 sheets in my shop to build two high school science lab countertops. 6 classrooms each. The main issue is it’s black !!!! I’m having a real hard time getting it sanded and scotch brited to a consistent black color under bright lights. Any advice appreciated. Second I love that sink flush cut bit but what do you glue under mount sinks with that are not corian ? ( silicone) I’ll probably become a pain in your butt if you answer me because I so desperately need quite a bit of guidance. I’m completing a bunch of tops but I want to know if I’m doing things right and if there’s a quicker way. Like for a drop in sink what tool would you use to make the cut out with which doesn’t have to be perfect?
Sanding black material is almost impossible. I would get 3M micron or 3M Trizact sandpaper system. Make sure the sander and the top is perfectly clean between sanding grits combination is your worst enemy. Not sure what question number two means. For cutting a sink cutout, use a 3/8 dia bit, double flute.ake sure all your tooling is carbide. If you watch all my videos you will learn a lot about solid surface fabrication.
Hello Andy, Thanks for your video! I am looking to do an undermount installation with a ceramic bowl on a Corian countertop. I fear that it will not look good if I cut it flush. I would like to make a rounded edge that overflows a bit. What do you think ? Is there a router bit that allow to do that with the bowl in place? Thanks!
@@AndyGraves , no not yet. I was planning to use the bowl as the template to finish it as it is oval. But maybe to do with an overflow it is best to do it with a wood template
@@AndyGraves to have the same shape of the drain plug so it fits well, to install a drain plug on a thermoformed panel...sorry if I don’t pick the right words
@@alexandrebisi2622 No problem. I do not have much experience with cutting drain plug into a thermoformed panel. I do cut drain holes in a shower pan, but that is done on the CNC.
Hi Andy where do you do this work? I am Portuguese, I really liked your work in Corian, I also work in this area but on a small scale in Luanda-Angola. I would like to exchange contact with you. greetings Miguel

Is the bowl already mounted to the countertop?

What bit should I use to make the corian counter flush with an undercount stainless steel sink?
I'm not sure, I've never done that.
Can I use a circular saw or G saw to cut off the sink
Circular saw yes. What is a G saw?
which router do you use or which one do you recomend?
Hell, I have links to the recommended routers in the description below.

Hi Andy ! What sort of routerbit do you use for the same work but for the drain on a panel ? Thanks !
I'm not sure what you mean by a drain on a panel.

Is there a router bit that is a 1/2 inch router bit for Corian solid surface sinks
No, go to routerbitsnow.com and you can get a router but for whichever sink you have.

I work in Southern California.
Where can I buy “uncut” corian? Raw stock, idk what the actual term would be.
Where do you live? We can sell you material if you need sheet stock.
@@AndyGraves I’m in NW Illinois.

Where can I buy solid surface Direct
Call a local fabricator and they may sell it to you. You won't be able to get it from a distributor.
