- In this video, I'll show my Display Settings for Tekla Structures and also talk a little bit about user.ini and options.ini files.
Here are my advanced display settings. Feel free to copy and paste these into your user.ini or options.ini file (or whatever ini file you use). Some tweaking may be necessary (see video for more info).

Also changing this to true from settings-advanced options- model view will improve your display in tekla 2018 version.

As far as turning off the Tekla Structures using XS_PRODUCT_IDENTIFIER=FALSE, it works for me when I set it directly in the model. You might try looking in your firm folder or user.ini file to see if it has been set there. If not, put the line SET XS_PRODUCT_IDENTIFIER=FALSE in your user.ini file.

For some reason I can’t find the user settings Folder?
Great video. I'm glad there are people like you that are willing to share their knowledge. The DirectX rendering setting worked. However, I made the changes to my user.ini file and it made no difference. The shapes (Wide flange, angle, etc.) still don't show radius at flange/web intersection. Is there any additional setting I should look at?
Thanks! I do what I can and I find your words very encouraging.
Use the advanced option XS_SOLID_USE_HIGHER_ACCURACY=TRUE to show the radius parts of the profiles. Put it in the user.ini and restart Tekla. If it doesn't work, check to see if there's an options.ini file in the model. If so, open it and see if XS_SOLID_USE_HIGHER_ACCURACY=FALSE is in it. If so, delete that line and save the file. If it's not, look for an options.ini in you firm and/or project folder and preform the same check.
Also, remember that when entering advanced options in the user.ini file, use "SET" before them (ie SET XS_SOLID_USE_HIGHER_ACCURACY=TRUE). The "SET" is not necessary in the options.ini file.

Does the setting -set XS_SOLID_USE_HIGHER_ACCURACY=TRUE- work in TEKLA 2018? it works in 2017 version but when i change the ini file in 2018 version with the same settings you demostrate it doesnt work.
It work in TS 2018. I have it set in the user.ini file (usually found at C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Tekla Structures\2018\UserSettings).
I created a new model and it work fine. When i try to open a model that i 've created before i applied your recommended settings it fails. Thank you.@@CSWilsonDraws
Do you know what if any settings that would cause node/handles to be extremely small? This also seems to effect several dropdowns in dialogs with images. This happens on some monitors and not others.

do you have a solution for speeding up Tekla in drawing mode? when I zoom in-out there's a delay (the more objects on the paper, the bigger the delay)
also Tekla gets superslow (1-5 fps) when I hold and drag drawing views on the paper. Thank you!
I don't have any advice for that one. I haven't experienced any real slow-downs in the drawing editor. Maybe someone else will see this and can help.
What version of Tekla are you having trouble with?

2nd, i put your settings in the user.ini where you said it was located and nothing changed after getting out and back into Tekla. it did however work when i out them in the options.in in the model folder. any thought as to why?
3rd, if you have time, the model looks great now, i love it but, open holes are solid, they are respresented but can;t see through them. is seeing through them possible? if so is it advisable?

Thank you! I'm glad to hear you find the videos useful.
For your ini situation, if you're using a firm or project folder, check to see if there's an options.ini file in either one of those. The ini load order would go something like: user.ini, then options.ini in the firm and/or project folders, then options.ini in the model folder. Each one overriding the one before it.
For the holes being solid, I assume you mean holes added using the bolt command. Unfortunately, those are depicted as solids in the model and not any to get around it if you want to be considered as "bolt holes". You can manually add "see-through" holes, but they will be considered as subtracted material and not "bolt holes" per se.

I am trying to use direct modification to modify gridlines.
"direct modification" and "gridlines" are on but I cant move the gridline by left click on the gridline. Need help.
I tested DM on model gridlines in TS2017i-SP4 and TS2018-SP1 and both are working. What version of Tekla Structures are you having trouble with?
I am using ts2017.
It looks like its working only on some of models I have created.

Yes. You can create a 3D view on the drawing, shade the members as desired, then plot the drawing in color.
Hello, I have an issue with the product identifier, for a certain model, doesn't respond to "option.ini", but the other models are ok, no problem. I noticed when I add the line XS_PRODUCT_IDENTIFIER=FALSE and save the file, close it, after a few seconds, the file change and the line removed. could you please help. Thanks
It could be that XS_PRODUCT_IDENTIFIER has been set in the Advanced Options dialog of that specific model. If that's the case, then it has been written to the options_drawings.db file as well. Change it in the Advanced Options for that model.

Which computer configuration you are using ?
Right now, I'm running an Intel Core i7-8700k (4.8Ghz OC), 32GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1070Ti, 1TB SSD plus 2x3TB HDD (Raid 1), two monitors (43" 4K monitor (landscape) and 27" 2K monitor (portrait))
I'm working on a video about the construction of my current computer and monitor setup, but I've been busy and haven't had a chance to finish it. Be on the look out for it, though! I plan to post it someday! :)

I second this. Plus, you can change it on the drawing side to show radius on profiles.
Which version of Tekla Structures are you using? I just checked this with v2017i and it seems to work fine. I modeled an HSS6x6x1/4, mitered one end with a line-cut and put a bolt through the other end. I then created an .nc1 file using File->Export->NC Files (not Tube NC Files) and then opened the .nc1 file with Steel-Project CAD Viewer program and everything looks as expected.
Is there something specific that causes the nc file to break?
Thank you for your check. We had such situations on v19 & v21.1. Now we are jumping in 2017i, but we have read that the problem still occurs.
So we have to check it and in what circumstances it occurs.

From my understanding it is the NC file data and the program that is being imported into. You can look at the NC files on a viewer and it is fine but that actual data in the NC file does not run correctly. This is the situation atleast for my company on the cnc line. When we turn off the setting the cnc machine runs the files. This however may very from machine to machine. Vsn 21.1, 16i, 17, 17i.
