Yes, what Megumi was referring to about curses being responsible for deaths was what happened at the school, what the cursed attacked. I don't know why there are people replying that are both trying to spoil and yet being completely wrong at the same time.
If this helps explain: A "curse" is basically like saying "an evil entity/spirit/hollow". A "cursed object" is an object infused with the essence of such an entity. Sukuna was a super powerful being/curse in ancient times that disappeared one day, and instead 20 "cursed objects" in the form of fingers showed up, each containing a part of his essence. Those fingers are so powerful, no one can destroy them directly. Its been a real issue in their society for the last few hundereds of years. But for whatever reason Yuji can eat and absorb the fingers, and suppress Sukuna, preventing him from taking over the host body. And while the fingers cant be directly destroyed, if Yuji absorbs them first and THEN someone kills Yuji, it would in turn effectively kill whatever portion of Sukuna is inside of him. Other things: "Jujutsu Sorcerers" is the term holistically for the society of good guys who fight curses/cursed spirits/hollows. The elders are the top of that hierarchy. Gojo is indeed "the strongest" living jujutsu sorcerer, but isnt necessarily at the top of the authority food chain.

You could take note for remember all the things because in season 2 (and even in season 1) many things gonna happen about history/characters etc... 8:30 : in fact, the Sukuna's fingers are powerfull and act like a magnet all around. So that why small or big curses are attracked by this power. So that could cause death around those who have a finger with him/her. (It happen in the school in the ep01). The Grandpa die naturally (for now i mean in the manga they don't talked about anything else). Can't wait to see more of your reaction to this Anime.
A couple of tips when watching this show. Really pay attention to small things characters say or hint towards or things that the story could be trying to convey. Gege is one of those authors/Mangaka that will say something, then 200 chapters later brings it up out of nowhere. I really think you'll appreciate his writing/storytelling because he makes the reader work to figure out what's going on, sometimes he is nice and will explain but most of the time its up to you. A lot and I mean A L O T of information is gonna fly right at you in what seem like really important or stressful times, like you've already experienced in the 1st episode. It is critical to go back and re-watch scenes or whole entire episodes if you need too off/on camera. I don't know if you're into reading manga much but after you finish its related episodes if you're having issues remembering certain details just look up what manga chapter it happens in and then go read that chapter, obviously don't read to far ahead because this is the one anime I've regretted not waiting till the anime to come out, I just dove straight into the manga after season 1 and its my biggest anime regrets to date, Mappa animators and all of the Voice actors poured there hearts and souls into this plus they're some big names attached to this show (Dio's VA will make an appearance, Seto's VA from Yu-Gi-Oh, Megumi's VA is Kawaki from Boruto(only thing Ik him from), Baki Hanma VA is also gonna make an appearance plus a lot of talented people who are just now getting there big moment to shine) Its honestly a shame how many reactors I've watched and they've all missed at least one to two pivotal pieces of information that when knowing that info is important, they suddenly don't know and are confused/mad or just a good mix of both, I've even seen a couple say they are gonna stop watching because of some of these reasoning. Gege isn't a typical mangaka, he is willing to go down some crazy rabbit holes I really can only compare to likes of Berserk mangaka Kentaro Miura (R.I.P. am still crying to this day), introduces key world building/character building moments that often times get clouded by what they're watching/reading. He isn't gonna hold your hand but don't let that scare you, he with one singular manga, has risen to my top 5 of all time, even if he ends up a one hit wonder I think he has created one of the most complex and interesting Shonen ever and I'm am actually excited every week when the next manga chapter comes out because YOU JUST DONT KNOW WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN NEXT, even when you've think you figured it all out. Ta ta for now
I like to think of Gojo as the kings royal knight, figuratively speaking. Yeah he can beat anyone in a fight, and is a big deterrent for curses, but he in not charge. That is the 'kings' here, the elders that run the school and society in general, old families and such that have been the head for generations. While not the strongest now, they are clans with big influence that brute force of one man, no matter how strong, can match.
