    From the sounds that the 302 makes, I get the idea that it needs bushings and pins on most of its bucket parts. More rainy day work.

    Loved that you got the planes at the intro, very cool and lucky timing! Funny watching you come trotting out of the woods to grab the camera. Oh and Darrell, if you ain’t got nothing nice to say, well, maybe just move on. Negativity doesn’t look good on you.

    Back in the day, I was a deckhand on the Ohio River working for ACBL. Later I worked for the Corps of Engineers at some of the Locks and Dams. I retired from Newburgh Locks/Dam in 2015. I remember coming up/down the river by Derby. I remember Flint Island on the KY side. I was also in the Air National Guard in Pittsburgh, PA then Terre Haute, IN. Later in the AF Reserve.

    Water maples. Also known as silver maple or soft maple. Lousy trees for yards but make great fence boards. I have a pile of them at my homeboy Larry’s place and I plan on sawing them into fence boards as soon as I get my old sawmill to operate properly. You can check out my sawmill struggle on my channel if you’re interested.
    It’s nice having some equipment around. Sure helps when you pinch your saw (as will happen).

    You know cottonwood makes bad firewood 🪵 but there maybe a good fix you may like to try but it’s up to the owner you can dig a deep ditch by the river could maybe a help on erosion of land you put the trees 🌳 standing on end in the ditch kind of like a fence it deep in the ground this would help hold the dirt in place. But up to you. Have a great week

    I drove by last night the see what was new and it's looking good Mike. I really enjoy this series due to the personal history with the property. When we first bought it, from the river to the riprap hadn't been touched in years and the brush was 8 to 10 feet tall. Spent dozens of hours with a chainsaw and brushcutter to get it where it was when you started and it's nice to see the current owner continuing on with the dream. I'll give you one guess as to who carved the heart in that maple. :) And be glad the big hollow space in that tree is empty. 3 years ago it was filled with the biggest hornet nest I've seen in my life.

Seriously though great job Bud way to keep up with that soft one. I've seen guys panic and you were calm smooth and didn't stop just did exactly what you should have and give it the gas be ready to run. The tree itself doesn't look like it was real bad until the plunge that's when the pucker factor rises quick. As always good luck and God Bless

    When cutting a trunk or limb that's supported like a bridge, make your top cut halfway through first and then when making the bottom cut offset the cut one blade width from the top cut, so that when the cuts meet the now free portion can fall beside your bar instead of pushing it downwards. Safer that way because you stay in control of the blade throughout the cut.

That said, I do like watching "Cottontop3" and "August Hunicke". I highly recommend both as serious professionals and skilled cutters. Nice capture of the C130s doing training exercises. The barge traffic was much higher not all that long ago, but infrastructure decay has made rivers almost a non existent method of moving bulk goods. Coal still moves on the river as it tend to be needed at plants located on the river, but most is moved by rail only now. It's a shame that the lock and damn system in the US is in such a sorry state.

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  2 года назад

      I would like to see the statistics on that. As someone who lives on the river and studies the industry, you seem pretty far off base there

    • @justahuman2345
      @justahuman2345 2 года назад

      @@CaptainKleeman I too have grown up on the Ohio, living nearby and boating on it extensively. I'm just up river in Louisville. I am well aware of the condition of the river infrastructure, as well as the effect of it on the barge industry. JeffBoat, a large scale barge manufacturer, was affected to the point of full closure. Hopefully the infrastructure money will actually fulfill the abundant upgrade needs of the locks on the Ohio. Most locks require breaking shipments in two to pass through, and rejoining them once locked through. The pace is slow even if every lock on the river is working at 100%. Unfortunately, most of the locks don't work that well.
      The industry diminished about 5-6 yrs ago. Hopefully it will make a come back when more locks are upgraded to the Federal standard, like McAlpine lock. I am surprised that all of this isn't old news to you sir.

    Sand in a tree is a killer on the chain. I cut down a 150 year old shag bark Hickory snag once, that had been broken off by a storm. It sat about 200 yards East of a real sandy field, and caught a lot of sand blowing off that field over the years.
    Several times, I actually saw sparks as I was cutting and you didn't make but 2 or 3 cuts and had to touch up the chain.
