Take it from her view, for alot of the season their team was the underdog, and when they actually got more members and had a fighting chance, they lost their limbs and had to roll all the way to yoyle mountain while the other teams had vans or could just relax while puffball flew. Yet she was overlooked, never acknowledged, the only reason she was in that team was because her old one rejected her. She was never wanted and never appreciated. And what does she get? Lost limbs. The only time she was happy in the season was before teams were picked.
Man, honestly this was one of the most sincere and correct videos talking about characters that changed, and I completely agree with Pen. First that Pen is my favorite character, especially in BFDI because the friendship and dynamics he had with Eraser, in BFB he was funny and smart, managing to fit in a team with newbies. And in TPOT where he has the chance to be even more dynamic with Eraser, they hardly speak to each other. I hope he redeems himself by getting back interactions with Eraser and working as a duo. Also, I miss Blocky, they literally broke the trio in the post split.
yeah I didn’t mention in the video, but I loved them in BFDI like all of them cheating like getting the test answers and having Leafy make their food. It’s simple yet so enjoyable and although BFB didn’t show this as much due to its character development, I still enjoyed them there too. Now in TPOT they should return to BFDI’s Pen and Eraser

As a Pen fan lol, I definitely would say Pie is the reason why Pen lost some potential. Pie literally kicked Pen off, just for not preventing death, and I barely think Pie even prevented death either. I still think Pen has some good in the future of TPOT, if he isn't talking with Eraser he might be doing more stuff, like what he did in TPOT 2. Sure Pen might be uninteresting to some people, but he's not over. The writers would give the fan-favorites more screentime, at least in the future. Pin, kind of agreed. She became bland, but she's okay. Again, maybe some potential in the future. And I don't really have anything to say about the rest.
I 100% agree with the complete downgrade that is TPOT Pin. I actually never noticed some of these but Pin I already figured out. In bfb she had a good frienship like relationship with Coiny and was honestly a pretty relatable character for me. But in TPOT it just got thrown away and now she acts more like her in BFDI.
I feel like particularly for donut the problem is more of a lack of screentime. Donut got ALOT of screentime in bfb, and the writers want to focus on other characters. once the cast starts to thin, donut is going to get alot better.
I think the reason the characters voices changed to be more obnoxious is because when season one was out their natural voices were like that and as the voice actors got older then their voices slowly got less and less recognizable, since TPOT is supposed to be something like going back to the style of the original BFDI they changed their voices up to be more childish which makes sense in my opinion
Well actually tpot was supposed to be high quality animation, writing, story telling, etc. bfb post split was “going back to original BFDI” but I understand your point still. Yeah. Pen's lost a lot of my love for a while (in favor of Eraser) but I want to see him stick around for those funny moments I loved from him before. I think it would be better if: 1. He went along with Eraser's escapades and did his own shenanigans, but more erratically, think BFB 6 with Free Food and BFB 9 with Black Hole. Would also fit with his personality with TPOT 2 and let him have an arch rival in the form of Death Pact Again. It'd sort of be like having a slice of post-split BFB in TPOT with his more laidback, more gag-focused way of solving problems. I feel like that could be his defining feature in a sea of logic oriented balls and mechanical minds 2. For a more wild idea, we could have something like a 2 team alliance. In this case with The Strongest Team on Earth. Since Pen, Eraser, and Snowball are somewhat established, they could sort of be similar to the Pen, Eraser, Blocky trio from before, though having a few slight differences. Bonus points for Another Name Than That's shenanigans with all 6 of their shared members I agree wholeheartedly with Pin. Please bring back therapy Pin. I'm kinda fine with Book as is now. Most of her lines seem to be her... trying her best but actually failing. I actually got a little chuckle out of the "stuck in a ball joke" because it shows how AWKWARD she is with this new batch. She wants to feel included and she doesn't feel like she's exactly getting anywhere (TPOT 4 chess scene) and she's overcompensating. Ice Cube needs new lines. Honestly she should have gotten out over Cloudy because Cloudy DID SOMETHING. Donut is a bit more boring. He's just kind of overshadowed by the ANNOYANCE THAT IS PIN. I like his animation, personality, and his personal object-charm, but he just did NOTHING of note so far. Saw kinda just got eliminated before she did anything of note. I thought she was fine, but whatever. Also idk I kinda prefered BFB Fries? He just seems a lot lesser here.
An alliance in between teams is a very interesting idea, it’s highly unlikely that it’ll happen but I think it’s a good idea. as for Fries, I kinda feel the same way about him as I do Donut. Boring, lacks anything unique now. I just didn’t feel as strong about him, at least not enough for him to be in the video

I think a big part of this is that ever since the split the writing has been... off. More so in tpot but you can see it in bfb too, like, it feels like a complete shift from pre-split in a lot of different ways. It feels like they oversimplified it way too much and are trying to make it something it's not.
something that kind of makes TPOT a bit worse in this aspect was that after TPOT 2 satomi was kicked off as a writer, of course this makes TPOT not come out yearly anymore, but it's still kinda jarring when going from TPOT 2 to TPOT 3 and seeing completely different writing

Ha Pin, Pen they sound alike. Anyway really great analysis definitely made me miss the Old Pen a lot also finally someone else mentions the fact that a lot of the voices are just exaggerated now. It honestly made me get tired of certain characters like Golf Ball. (Oh yea ngl I was definitely expecting Book to become a kind of bland character after the arc was over)
The reason why a lot of these characters aren't as good compared to other seasons is probably due to the fact that half of the characters barely get any screentime, and a lot of the focus is usually either on the fan favorites or the more important characters. I usually use the term, "purple edit" when it comes to contestants in any Survivor/Total Drama/Object Show related media, which can be summed up as a character/contestant not being given enough screentime and appear almost invisible as a result. This term was named after the Survivor: Nicuragua contestant Purple Kelly, who was best known for the purple streak in her hair and barely anything else. To name a few who fall into this category for me: Donut, Grassy, Pen, Tennis Ball, Book, Nickel, Bomby, Price Tag, Naily, Saw, Foldy, and even Teardrop at times, which is fair enough because she already competed in BFB but still. Name any others if I missed any, because I could be missing more players, but yeah. A lot of these characters need more expanding upon. I get it's hard to maintain less than 40 contestants but you still have to make them intersting and/or not flanderize them to the point where they aren't the same character.
Yeah, it's kinda why I feel conflicted with the whole "vote to save thing". Popular characters who are hated or loved will still get a bunch of votes cuz ppl want tk see them do more. However all the eliminated characters so far have felt kind of forgettable which I why they didn't get much votes

Yeah I agree on all of these. The only thing that I just cannot see is "Tpot as a whole having terrible writing", specifically worse writing than pre split Bfb. Character derailment is a problem but the writing of the episodes is top notch, not a good point
The boys trio reminds me of those really close friends you have that you can stop talking to for like a month or two and just talk again and not feel like you missed a beat
I feel like for a lot of these I could just say to let it cook, y'know? I kinda feel like these plots could go places but pacing would be trash if we had development in the first 4 episodes, there's gotta be more time to chug plots along evenly and have it feel mellow and not too sudden. I definitely respect these opinions though, it makes sense. Just feel like all these characters could improve in the next like 20-25 episodes of TPOT
One moment I found out of character for pin, was when she just gave two an apple for the meal at the Cafe , when pin canonically knows how to cook when she made a replica cake of flower back in bfdi 4
Yeah I agree. Some people may not see it and it may be since they haven't been there in the long run of the show and maybe binged it through and not noticed the changes like the voices or personality, or even how they waved off some of the most greatest traits of the characters. I like tpot and and how some characters shine but scenes like where pin just made a big deal about cheating really ruined a bit. But a few characters like pillow, winner and clock do have visible changes and more screen time. Pillow has been one of my favourites at bfb but now she is even more
I agree with Book, I don’t like how the first episode of TPOT just made her a Leafy knockoff, (And Leafy is the worst kind of menace in BFB history, I’m glad she joined BFB post-split so we won’t be dealing with her for a long ass time.) and in the other TPOT episodes she’s just kind of there for her team. It’s quite sad, her only great episodes in BFB were BFB 13-15.
I think something they couldve done with pen is using his development from being on death pact to maybe change their dynamic a bit? They were together for canonical years so something that couldve changed, I myself had a very similar situation happen, the whole 'not having friends in class' and I connected and got closer with different people, who are now my best friends who I don't go a day without talking with, and trying to talk to my older friends was awkward and in some instances, I often realized we didnt get along anymore, something being done like this couldve been really nuanced, a part of me feels like they kind of did? Great video! You made some very strong points!
I also have the same experience with drifting away from old friends. I also think pen's reaction to not being with blocky strange. They had very good chemistry as friends, so it felt kinda off, but at the same time, he hasn't been on the same team as blocky for a while, so I get why it feels like he isn't used to being on the same team as blocky. I miss the old pen sometimes 😭

Hey so what I think is going on with Pin is that this is leading toward a sort of character arc like with book in bfb. I'm guessing she'll turn more and more bossy and mean and in some episode will be confronted by coiny or another member of her team about it. Making pin act like this was a conscious decision by the creators, a drastic change that everyone would pick up on the moment she started that in tpot ep. 2. This is definitely going to lead up toward some sort of confrontation, and an arc maybe where Pin has a heart to heart with some character like how she did in bfb with coiny. I love pin she was such a great character in bfb and i'd hate to see them revert all her growth in tpot, but I tend to recognize patterns pretty quickly and with how its looking now i think this is leading up to something important for her as a character. But, that's just a guess, I really hope her character gets saved at some point. After all, we're not even halfway into the season.
the difference between pin becoming nice and flower becoming nice is that they ease into it more with pin, flower used to be a jerk, dissapeared for most of bfdia, and was still mean in bfb but in post split she just became weird, people called her mean, but also they were her friend? but pin on the other hand had great development, in bfdia at the beginning she was still kinda rude, but became nicer over time in a way that makes it not feel too sudden and they acknowledge hwo how she changed in bfb.

I wish pin had been friends with leafy. But it was just bfdi 1a. Also I like your points, it's simply that nothing is marked down by writers, they just make stuff up using memory. And with tpot being ran by a new crew, they are of course, using a faded memory.
Pin is one of my favorite characters, and her dilemma makes me wish the split never happened so that she could have more interaction around her close friends she thrived with.
I've been a Pin fan ever since I found this show almost a decade ago. Seeing what TPOT is doing to her is saddening. At least she was good in TPOT 4 and kinda in the middle in TPOT 5.
If I were to write book in tpot, this how I would do it. On her team, she tries her best to be like, "Hey guys! Remember when bfdia happened?" I honestly see her as being an extremely awkward and trying to fit in. I could see the other people on the team get annoyed of her and possibly not associate with her. She would have to learn that mentioning bfdia all the time won't help her make friends and she needs to talk about other things to make a bond with them. For example, talk about the previous challenges and her thoughts on them.

It’s honestly sad on how badly pins characters changed. I liked that after bfdi, she wanted become more nicer and not who she used to be. Bfb shows how she changed compared to Bfdi. What's crazy is that in the first few BFB episodes (I'd say like the first 6) is that Pen was the closest thing BFB had to a main protagonist. Now he's basically nothing.

Considering Match got eliminated due to a similar conflict like Books, I feel like they wanted Book to be eliminated because of her conflict too, but it ended up not happening and now it feels like they don’t really have a plan for her. I also believe the creators said BFB was more of the story side while TPOT would be where they try to improve the quality of episodes, which is why TPOT doesn’t rlly have like any interesting story writing or whatever

What they did to Pin in TPOT is honestly the same with what they did to Match in BFB 8. Match was doing REALLY GOOD without Pencil. She went ahead and made more friends and moved on with just trying to make sure Pencil is still remembered by trying to be like her. But the scene in BFB 8 was really random, harsh, and unexpected.
Honestly, not a fan of your points about book at all. It’s clear to me that they’re *not* trying to be funny, they’re doing two things. For the TPOT 2 scene, it was to prove she learned from her mistakes. As for the TPOT 4 scenes, that was more so a reference. Not a haha, but more so an “Oh yeah” type of reaction was intended. As for what you said for her voice “downgrade” (opinions are subjective) Not only the parentheses, but it was meant to make her voice a bit less.. raspy if you will, and even if you don’t like it, that shouldn’t affect your opinion on the character to the point of disliking her or worse, considering a main thing about a character is their writing, which you did talk about. Even if I think one of the points is weak, I still give credit to you for that.

Yeah. Pen's lost a lot of my love for a while (in favor of Eraser) but I want to see him stick around for those funny moments I loved from him before. I think it would be better if:
1. He went along with Eraser's escapades and did his own shenanigans, but more erratically, think BFB 6 with Free Food and BFB 9 with Black Hole. Would also fit with his personality with TPOT 2 and let him have an arch rival in the form of Death Pact Again. It'd sort of be like having a slice of post-split BFB in TPOT with his more laidback, more gag-focused way of solving problems. I feel like that could be his defining feature in a sea of logic oriented balls and mechanical minds
2. For a more wild idea, we could have something like a 2 team alliance. In this case with The Strongest Team on Earth. Since Pen, Eraser, and Snowball are somewhat established, they could sort of be similar to the Pen, Eraser, Blocky trio from before, though having a few slight differences. Bonus points for Another Name Than That's shenanigans with all 6 of their shared members

I'm kinda fine with Book as is now. Most of her lines seem to be her... trying her best but actually failing. I actually got a little chuckle out of the "stuck in a ball joke" because it shows how AWKWARD she is with this new batch. She wants to feel included and she doesn't feel like she's exactly getting anywhere (TPOT 4 chess scene) and she's overcompensating.
Ice Cube needs new lines. Honestly she should have gotten out over Cloudy because Cloudy DID SOMETHING.
Donut is a bit more boring. He's just kind of overshadowed by the ANNOYANCE THAT IS PIN. I like his animation, personality, and his personal object-charm, but he just did NOTHING of note so far.
Saw kinda just got eliminated before she did anything of note. I thought she was fine, but whatever.
Also idk I kinda prefered BFB Fries? He just seems a lot lesser here.
An alliance in between teams is a very interesting idea, it’s highly unlikely that it’ll happen but I think it’s a good idea. as for Fries, I kinda feel the same way about him as I do Donut. Boring, lacks anything unique now. I just didn’t feel as strong about him, at least not enough for him to be in the video
I feel like we'll get character development for book soon. I'm not certain, but I have hopes for her development!

Thank gosh I'm not the only one who notices how the voices sound very weird and exaggrated.
I think a big part of this is that ever since the split the writing has been... off. More so in tpot but you can see it in bfb too, like, it feels like a complete shift from pre-split in a lot of different ways. It feels like they oversimplified it way too much and are trying to make it something it's not.
Yeah I feel the same way. It’s not entirely terrible but it’s just not as consistently good which can probably be said about a lot of shows/movies
something that kind of makes TPOT a bit worse in this aspect was that after TPOT 2 satomi was kicked off as a writer, of course this makes TPOT not come out yearly anymore, but it's still kinda jarring when going from TPOT 2 to TPOT 3 and seeing completely different writing

I fully agree with what you said, another thing that has changed for me is the animation style, seriously, I can't be the only one who thinks the animation style has gotten worse, like in bfb the characters look better and especially with the limbs and faces, even the background that has changed color I don't like, with the original old one it seems more pleasing to the eye ( also for the intro ), then tpot for writing I don't like it so much
Yeah for the show that was said to be focusing on animation, it’s no different to BFB post split. I mean it’s decent animation obviously but it can be inconsistent at times like TPOT 2

The reason why a lot of these characters aren't as good compared to other seasons is probably due to the fact that half of the characters barely get any screentime, and a lot of the focus is usually either on the fan favorites or the more important characters. I usually use the term, "purple edit" when it comes to contestants in any Survivor/Total Drama/Object Show related media, which can be summed up as a character/contestant not being given enough screentime and appear almost invisible as a result. This term was named after the Survivor: Nicuragua contestant Purple Kelly, who was best known for the purple streak in her hair and barely anything else. To name a few who fall into this category for me: Donut, Grassy, Pen, Tennis Ball, Book, Nickel, Bomby, Price Tag, Naily, Saw, Foldy, and even Teardrop at times, which is fair enough because she already competed in BFB but still. Name any others if I missed any, because I could be missing more players, but yeah. A lot of these characters need more expanding upon. I get it's hard to maintain less than 40 contestants but you still have to make them intersting and/or not flanderize them to the point where they aren't the same character.
Yeah, it's kinda why I feel conflicted with the whole "vote to save thing". Popular characters who are hated or loved will still get a bunch of votes cuz ppl want tk see them do more. However all the eliminated characters so far have felt kind of forgettable which I why they didn't get much votes

Yeah I agree on all of these. The only thing that I just cannot see is "Tpot as a whole having terrible writing", specifically worse writing than pre split Bfb. Character derailment is a problem but the writing of the episodes is top notch, not a good point
The boys trio reminds me of those really close friends you have that you can stop talking to for like a month or two and just talk again and not feel like you missed a beat
I feel like for a lot of these I could just say to let it cook, y'know? I kinda feel like these plots could go places but pacing would be trash if we had development in the first 4 episodes, there's gotta be more time to chug plots along evenly and have it feel mellow and not too sudden.

That’s valid. To be fair, bfb’s first episodes weren’t really a lot of plot set ups except for episode 1 and maybe 3. So yeah over time probably

Yeah I agree. Some people may not see it and it may be since they haven't been there in the long run of the show and maybe binged it through and not noticed the changes like the voices or personality, or even how they waved off some of the most greatest traits of the characters. I like tpot and and how some characters shine but scenes like where pin just made a big deal about cheating really ruined a bit. But a few characters like pillow, winner and clock do have visible changes and more screen time. Pillow has been one of my favourites at bfb but now she is even more

I agree with Book, I don’t like how the first episode of TPOT just made her a Leafy knockoff, (And Leafy is the worst kind of menace in BFB history, I’m glad she joined BFB post-split so we won’t be dealing with her for a long ass time.) and in the other TPOT episodes she’s just kind of there for her team. It’s quite sad, her only great episodes in BFB were BFB 13-15.

I think something they couldve done with pen is using his development from being on death pact to maybe change their dynamic a bit? They were together for canonical years so something that couldve changed, I myself had a very similar situation happen, the whole 'not having friends in class' and I connected and got closer with different people, who are now my best friends who I don't go a day without talking with, and trying to talk to my older friends was awkward and in some instances, I often realized we didnt get along anymore, something being done like this couldve been really nuanced, a part of me feels like they kind of did? Great video! You made some very strong points!
I also have the same experience with drifting away from old friends. I also think pen's reaction to not being with blocky strange. They had very good chemistry as friends, so it felt kinda off, but at the same time, he hasn't been on the same team as blocky for a while, so I get why it feels like he isn't used to being on the same team as blocky. I miss the old pen sometimes 😭

Hey so what I think is going on with Pin is that this is leading toward a sort of character arc like with book in bfb. I'm guessing she'll turn more and more bossy and mean and in some episode will be confronted by coiny or another member of her team about it. Making pin act like this was a conscious decision by the creators, a drastic change that everyone would pick up on the moment she started that in tpot ep. 2. This is definitely going to lead up toward some sort of confrontation, and an arc maybe where Pin has a heart to heart with some character like how she did in bfb with coiny.
I love pin she was such a great character in bfb and i'd hate to see them revert all her growth in tpot, but I tend to recognize patterns pretty quickly and with how its looking now i think this is leading up to something important for her as a character. But, that's just a guess, I really hope her character gets saved at some point. After all, we're not even halfway into the season.

the difference between pin becoming nice and flower becoming nice is that they ease into it more with pin, flower used to be a jerk, dissapeared for most of bfdia, and was still mean in bfb but in post split she just became weird, people called her mean, but also they were her friend? but pin on the other hand had great development, in bfdia at the beginning she was still kinda rude, but became nicer over time in a way that makes it not feel too sudden and they acknowledge hwo how she changed in bfb.

Pin is one of my favorite characters, and her dilemma makes me wish the split never happened so that she could have more interaction around her close friends she thrived with.

I've been a Pin fan ever since I found this show almost a decade ago. Seeing what TPOT is doing to her is saddening. At least she was good in TPOT 4 and kinda in the middle in TPOT 5.

If I were to write book in tpot, this how I would do it. On her team, she tries her best to be like, "Hey guys! Remember when bfdia happened?" I honestly see her as being an extremely awkward and trying to fit in. I could see the other people on the team get annoyed of her and possibly not associate with her. She would have to learn that mentioning bfdia all the time won't help her make friends and she needs to talk about other things to make a bond with them. For example, talk about the previous challenges and her thoughts on them.

It’s honestly sad on how badly pins characters changed. I liked that after bfdi, she wanted become more nicer and not who she used to be. Bfb shows how she changed compared to Bfdi. But then in Tpot they threw all of that out of the window and made her go back to her Bfdi self. It’s honestly sad, let’s hope they fix her.
I think Michaels voice got burnt out when doing flower in bfb, so the only scratchy voice he can do is Flowers and nearly identical variants of Flowers voice
i think this summes up for my brain why i don't like tpot as much as even bfdi, theres to much changing and alot of the caracters i like are either not in tpot or are compleatly changed, my fav character is leafy and even though she has lost all the reason for why i started liking her when i first saw the show, i still like her as who she came out to be in the end of bfb, but pin she just died after i watced tpot 2, i really wished something would be diffrent like, the pin being scared of her team cheating could have been done with just a few changes, they don't need to change the character for that

What's crazy is that in the first few BFB episodes (I'd say like the first 6) is that Pen was the closest thing BFB had to a main protagonist. Now he's basically nothing.

I think the main reason why Pen wasn't as anxious as he was in BFB 1 was probably because he adapted to being alone with his friends. But in TPOT I see why you don't like him but I think there might be an arc on Eraser and Pen falling out.

Book feels like one of their characters where they wanted them to be eliminated but it just didn’t happen. Considering Match got eliminated due to a similar conflict like Books, I feel like they wanted Book to be eliminated because of her conflict too, but it ended up not happening and now it feels like they don’t really have a plan for her. It’s like her, ig “story” is basically over and she’s kind of just there now. I also believe the creators said BFB was more of the story side while TPOT would be where they try to improve the quality of episodes, which is why TPOT doesn’t rlly have like any interesting story writing or whatever

What they did to Pin in TPOT is honestly the same with what they did to Match in BFB 8. Match was doing REALLY GOOD without Pencil. She went ahead and made more friends and moved on with just trying to make sure Pencil is still remembered by trying to be like her. But the scene in BFB 8 was really random, harsh, and unexpected.

Honestly, not a fan of your points about book at all.
It’s clear to me that they’re *not* trying to be funny, they’re doing two things. For the TPOT 2 scene, it was to prove she learned from her mistakes. As for the TPOT 4 scenes, that was more so a reference. Not a haha, but more so an “Oh yeah” type of reaction was intended.
As for what you said for her voice “downgrade” (opinions are subjective) Not only the parentheses, but it was meant to make her voice a bit less.. raspy if you will, and even if you don’t like it, that shouldn’t affect your opinion on the character to the point of disliking her or worse, considering a main thing about a character is their writing, which you did talk about. Even if I think one of the points is weak, I still give credit to you for that.
I also give you credit about the whole dynamics going nowhere, I think the writers should explore them.
I still hate the wannabe firey nickname though, that is beyond wrong.
