Hi Martin, Your videos are always so helpful. I have decided to use the proximity switches as my limit switches too. Your videos on the switches were helpful as well. I also have those ones bought from China (multiple ones-NPN, normally closed), but when I connected them to the board I kept getting the signal that the limit switches had been triggered and I could not reset them, so I have something misconfigured. I'm going to go back to the shop tomorrow and reference your video to try and correct the problem. I have a new BOB-PMDX-126- (that is quite different from the one I had, ST-V2) that connects to my motion controller/pulse generator (Ethernet Smooth Stepper) and I'm trying to get everything straightened out. Supposedly, my sensors don't require a pull-up resistor on this BOB, and the BOB supplies +12v (unregulated) to the sensors. The documentation to my board stated that the sensors need to be able to sink or source 6mA of current to work. I would certainly think that my sensors should be able to work with this board, I think I just must have something not configured correctly on Mach3. Then, I have to get the issue straightened out with my gecko drive. Anyway, thanks for the video series. A great help!
you DO need a external 12-24 volt power source. All outputs and inputs are opto isolated from the usb. The 12V powers the machine side circuitry If you try powering the control side from the USB power, you will have noise problems
I been using this exact USB interface with my Carving-CNC machine for the past 2 years. It's been running for many hours and I've been very happy about it. Only issue I have had with the card is it's sensitivity on the USB connection. Even with short, top quality cables I experience loss of connection. I have to mention that it is very rare though. But lately I have had a real pain with the card. At random times it will trigger the e-stop. I have tried to disconnect all connections so that only the USB was left - and that did not change anything. So I suspect that the card has a internal "timeout" that gets triggered when the card has a certain age. I know that this sounds link some crazy conspiracy theory, but as a electronic engineer I find it plausible. (At first I thought that I might have been the onboard DC to DC converter that had gone bad. However its fine. So now I have exchanged the card with the similar and newer e-cut card. I can really recommend others to try that. Same price but more features. It's has quadrature encoders for MGP and other nice features.
Jan, I've had the same problem with a probotix BOB and wracked my brain trying to find out what the problem was. Here's what finally fixed it: I put small disk cap 10uf or whatever is recommended for noise reductions-- across all of the limit switches ground to sense --at the BOB. Random E-stops --stopped immediately. So that was it, apparently. My system ran for several years before this without the random estop becoming a problem over and above just the typical Mach3 problems. Very glad I found this solution. If it can help someone else, all the better. I think I found this recommendation digging through old CNCZone forum posts. So, I didn't come up with it!
Hi. Iam using this card 5 years now. I would like share my experiences. See the slot for potenciometer (time 1.00 in video) there is next empty place on the board. I did solder in next conector and I did connect next potenciometer to it. Now you have 2 of them. In the setup of usb driver you can set wich one is doing what - I set one for feedrate and second one for jog. It works great.
Hi Martin , for the spindle controller I have connected on the akz250 as you show on you video , GDN PWM pin 4 . On the transformer pin 4 to X1 , you have connected the other two to AI anc COM . On my transformer i dont have COM ! i have OC CM 24V US AI A0 GND RS= RS- with of those I have to use inted of COM . Thank you Marek
Thank you Martin ! You are right , is GND . I got the spindle and all motors running, just have problem with adjusting the spindle spid in Mach3 . Any tips ? Greeting from Canada
i cannot seem to configure the outputs for some reason. E-stop works fine but cannot figure out how to configure the axis. Thanks for the video it has helped alot
Holaartin from Venezuela, I the usb motion card akz250 3 axis, You can connect 2 driver on the same axis ? 2 motors to use the shaft and drier are my DM542A. Thank you very much for your contribution
Hi Jose, I think you can get a 3 axis and a 4 axis version of the card. Mine is 4 axis. However, the 4 axis version DOES NOT support slave - so you can not use A to slave Y (the usual situation). So if you have two steppers on Y (left/right side) you will have to run them off the same controller and twist the connection of one of the coils on one of the steppers (to make it go in the opposite direction). I have that setup on my small X-Carve but on my bigger Stainless OX I use four separate controllers and a parallel break out board. Br, Martin
OK, I think I understand you question. So you want to connect two drivers/controllers to one output from the AKZ. My guess is that you can do that with out harming the card.
Grate video im now using this controller for a home built cnc router, i was looking over the board and couldn't find any reference to j14 dose anyone know what its for?
Hej Martin Har du brugt denne USB Motion Controller AKZ250 from Leafboy77 til nogen CNC maskine?
Thank you for the quick response . I did not see that My 2.2 kW spindle is working with this controller. I found where to buy AKZ250. Which of the two do You recommend? Sincerely , Vladimir .
The relay is used to power on/off the spindle - so nothing to do w E-stop. The relay, E-stop and probe are all connected to +5V. In my mock-up I connected the GND of the relay to pin 4 and told Mach3 to set the OutPut#1 to pin 4 (active low) and assign Spindel (M3) Output to #1. This is done to tell Mach3 that the spindle is controlled by OutPut#1 and to put the OutPut#1 signal on Pin4.
Hi Martin, excellent explanation like always i watch this tutorial as a reference guide into the mach3 motion controller, but i found tow option one with 50khz and the other is 200khz !? it depend on the step driver or what ? can you help
+Akrout Osama Hi Akrout, The frequency is the max stepper pulse frequency that can be coming from the board to the drivers. I just checked a couple of other well known drivers (like Gecko) and they are also in the high range (200-250kHz) - so I think it would be a safe choice to o for the version w 200kHz. It's also the board I have. Best wishes, Martin
Elwin Priem No , I would not buy it again. I would go for one with more active development like PoKeys, SmoothStepper etc. You can also check Mach3/4 homepage for more that they recommend
Hi Martin, It's very interesting video, but i have a little problem with my AK250, the minidisk that come with it does not have information, it's empty. How i could to find the info? Thanks for help.
Hi, i have enjoyed you video for the bob set up which has helped me a great deal in setting up my mill. Can i ask you if you have any experience with this board for lathe screw cutting. Reg UK
Reg Pugh Hi Reg. No I have only worked with it for milling purpose. I do however, not see a reason for why you should not be able to use it as long as your software supports what you want to do. This is as described only a motor controller "translating G-code to machine movement".
Hi. I have question about this controller can i use this Nema23 2N.m Servo Motor Closed Loop 76mm+HSS57 Hybrid Driver CNC Kit on this . Thank you for answer
Yes, I would expect so. I have not tried exactly that but the signals that comes out fit what the Hybrid Driver needs (setp and dir) so it should work. Remember that it does not support slave axis.
hi martin, im very interested in ur card did you had any upgrade to slave a axis ? or if there is any other board you recommend for me hope to get replay thank you
+The caliper cnc No, I do not think that they have issued a new plugin for the card. So I still do not think you can use it for slave. For my current machine I use a parallel break out board. That works very well. IF you need to USB you can check out warp9td.com/ for the SmoothStepper. I have not tried it myself though.
No, I think this card is now outdated. I think you should consider PoKeys57CNC. They actively develop the plugin for both Mach 3 and Mach4. You can see it here: makersupplies.dk/motion-controllers/191-motion-controllers-cnc-controller-pokeys57cnc-usb-and-ethernet.html
I have just received one of these complete with 6040 router, what calue is the potentiometer on the J16 pins? Which way is it wired? I have searched the net and cannot find any reference to an actual value!
All wired up, works a treat! Oh, and I soldered a spare header into the second gap, and that works fine as well! Im surprised they only left the header off, according to the schematic, its only a resistor joining it to the IC. Give it a go!
thanks for the heads up on this, I soldered in the second header and added a pot so now have 2 controls for overrides. Cool! now if I could just get my MPG to work!

The board does not support slave - so if your 4th axis is a rotary or something like that it will work. However, if you intend to use is as a second Y (slave to Y) it will not work.
Allan Slyk Har du overvejet Closed Loop Steppers?
This set up work fine for rauter in wood application, but the USB brake board does not match well with plasma and Mach3 software controler, since Torch hight control ( THC) has no support by Mach3 via USB, just only parallel port...!!
If you have two steppers on one axis (on the left and right side) the most normal way to do that is by having two stepper drivers that follow the same movements. In Mach3 one of these are assigned as the main axis (e.g. Y) and the other is often called A. Then to make them follow the same movements A is set to be "slave" of Y. Hope this is understandable - else I suggest that you check out Mach3 homepage for more info.
Hi Martin, did you get an answer to your question or did you contact leafboy77? I read somewhere in a (old) forum-tread, the card would NOT support a slave-axis. Or was it corrected in the meantime?
shand seimela It will not work together with the Smoothstepper controller. You will use one OR the other. I would recommend using Smoothstepper or PoKeys57CNC controller over this as they have active development of the Mach3/4 plugins
Does PoKeys57CNC also connects the plasma torch and also torch height controller because I read their websites there is no where they have stated that their BOB supports those. ..Please help
As explained on CNCZone I do not think you need to connect ENable. You should expect the the controller will send power to the step motor always. Onle way to disconnect power it to cou power supply. Step motors always get a holding currnet from the controller. Reset function is probably only used for resetting the firmware inside the controller.
it's very kind of you to share these stuff. thank you, it's been very helpful for me.
I appreciate you. Thanks for what you are doing.

Best regards: I have this card in a mini lathe. How i can conect a index pulse for threading? thanks for the answer.
How about using one of the inputs for that. You have 16 available so try to connect the indexer to one of them and see if it works.
Have you any information re setting this card up to a co2 laser power supply for control? The correct wiring is what I'm most concerned about.
No I sorry but I havent been looking for that at all. Hope you find a solution

do you know if this controller work axis with slave A if I wanted to run servo pack motor drive on my machine but used A axis has a slave on X ?
Hi Erik, No it will not work. The plugin does unfortunately not support slave
@erik gendron
Hello Erik. I have worked with one of these some time ago, and i'm pretty much sure that you can connect the command output from the board to X and A to slave them. I have seen a couple of machine that work like that.
@Martin Barfoed
Cheers, mate! Nice video. This will come in handy.
Hi Could you please show how to connect the spindel to the cart? Thank you
You can connect the spindle to the 5V relay switches if it is an on/off action you need
if it is an VFD you want I have done that in this video ruclips.net/video/BnC4-_mkPT0/видео.html
Plz also address how to control DAC voltage from this card to control spindle speed, thanks.
I do not have the board any more so you will have to find it some other place. Sorry
hi. I need of a cnc controller for use with 4 motor nema 23, 270oz, axis X,Y,Z and 4 axis, and driver DM542, cna work fine with this configuration ?
The board does not support slave - so if your 4th axis is a rotary or something like that it will work. However, if you intend to use is as a second Y (slave to Y) it will not work.
now I can use 4 motors indipendent X,Y,Z and 4th rotary axis them will work fine . Can you show me in what case the motors are used as slave ?
Now I can't found AKZ250 . Where can I buy ? If not , what analog You are recommended
?
Vladimir Panov I recommend PoKeys57CNC or SmoothStepper. Both are being supported and you can get plugins for Mach3 and 4
thinking about changing over my kn aronson to cnc can i use the mach3 usb motion card with my servos
If they can be controlled by a STEP and DIR signal then yes - else probably no.
Go for the e-cut card instead!
Hi
I wiring the board and drive the light is blinking and Mach 3 is working but the motor is not running can you please help
Thanks
Hi Tony, I gave up the card some years ago. The plugin was not updated - so I decided to go for PoKey57CNC instead
Ok.

I have a board that will be 4 axes that could enslave a shaft ?
just gang the step/dir signals together
have a board of this 4-axis will be q could enslave a shaft ?
The 4 axis board that I have does not support slave axis. So 4th axis can only be used for a separate purpose - like rotary
It appears the current version 3 supports slave axis
This set up work fine for rauter in wood application, but the USB brake board does not match well with plasma and Mach3 software controler, since Torch hight control ( THC) has no support by Mach3 via USB, just only parallel port...!!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN A AS A SLAVE TO X OR Y??
If you have two steppers on one axis (on the left and right side) the most normal way to do that is by having two stepper drivers that follow the same movements. In Mach3 one of these are assigned as the main axis (e.g. Y) and the other is often called A. Then to make them follow the same movements A is set to be "slave" of Y.
Hope this is understandable - else I suggest that you check out Mach3 homepage for more info.
Hi Martin, did you get an answer to your question or did you contact leafboy77? I read somewhere in a (old) forum-tread, the card would NOT support a slave-axis. Or was it corrected in the meantime?
does it takes smooth stepper ?
shand seimela It will not work together with the Smoothstepper controller. You will use one OR the other. I would recommend using Smoothstepper or PoKeys57CNC controller over this as they have active development of the Mach3/4 plugins
Thanks
In want to use that for the with the servo motors
You can use all three (AKZ250, Smoothstepper and PoKeys57CNC) controllers for servos as well provided the stepper controller has a STEP/DIR input
Does PoKeys57CNC also connects the plasma torch and also torch height controller because I read their websites there is no where they have stated that their BOB supports those. ..Please help
how to input job for mach3
file>import Gcode
Where I can buy?
+Francesco Santoro Try ebay or aliexpress.comBR, Martin
Hi Martin,
I wrote in your thread on cnczone and asking for your help. I'll be glad if you take a look give me a hand.
As explained on CNCZone I do not think you need to connect ENable. You should expect the the controller will send power to the step motor always. Onle way to disconnect power it to cou power supply. Step motors always get a holding currnet from the controller. Reset function is probably only used for resetting the firmware inside the controller.
