Snow Plow Train -Plow Action, Large Drifts, and Lots Of Snow!-

- December has been a SNOWY month with lots of blizzards. The railroads are certainly feeling it; In order to keep the tracks and ROW clear for trains, railroads have been putting their plows to good use.
In this video we will chase a plow on the BNSF Railway from Appleton, to Big Stone City, SD. This line hadn't seen any action for days due to a blizzard, and Christmas. While chasing was tough due to the ice covered roads, I was able to get some spectacular shots. There are even some neat slow motion sections, and they look fantastic!

You got that right; it was like powder all over the place! I wanted to get the drone up, but with temps around 0 to -10, I didn't wanna risk any damage to it. Thanks for watching!

Snowplow trains are one kind of train I don't see in Pennsylvania.
They are pretty cool to see, and rare! Hopefully you'll get to see one sometime; they are a sight.

Been along the Appleton, Odessa to Ortonville-Bigstone heading to Milbank line many times. Used to haul corn to Poet in Bigstone. Wonderfully filmed vid.

02:13, I never stopped to look at the plow on the trailing bogie but it makes sense.
Yes my son says that is called a flanger it removes snow ❄ and ice 🧊 that gets in between the rails.

Then YT algorighm included some German model trains, also great, with plows.

How much of that snow always settles right back onto the tracks behind the path of these trains? Probably a good amount always does.
It is a good ingenious solution but not a perfect one snow has to be blown really far far away in order for at least some of it even to not settle right back onto the tracks.
I realize the deeper & heavier snow would call for a slower speed. Any guess how fast these trains are traveling? Nice video. I enjoyed it 😉

I really enjoy most foamer videos. . . Steam is my favorite by far. But really what ruins the entire foam effect. . . . Is the inconsiderate still photographers. . With the faux shudder noise of their digital cameras. Ruins the video.

Thank you for the comment, and watching! Typically, and in most cases, I do my best to mask and avoid it. I had two other railfans right next to me shooting, which are the sounds you heard. All real, just couldn't get around it this time!
