2024 Hyundai KONA Test Drive - the most comprehensive review on KONA yet

- Test driving 2024 Hyundai KONA finally. It's been a little more than a month since I've spotted the pre-production models and reviewed all variants in: ICE, HEV including N-Line models and EV in my previous videos.
As you could probably tell from the length of this video - 38 minutes long - I had so many things to talk about, go over and truly enjoy the car to myself.
Trust me, I did my best to edit and trim this video down, the original videos were over 3 hours long 🤣
In this video, I did go over the second row seat and trunk size measurements which many of you are really curious about. I also did a lot of research, studied KONA - what's been upgraded, implemented, researched, embedded - things that you can't find out without having a data sheet and papers to back those up.
Find out all about them in this video!

I have watched several videos about the new Kona, but yours is THE BEST by far! I love this car and i am ready for ordering it.. Do you have an ETA about a test driving video of the hybrid one? Thanks!
Thank you very much for your support and compliment! I will try my best to get my hands on the HEV model. It won't be much different from a regular model other than the mpg plus the initial torque from the motor on city drives.
My main concern is how it will behave on highways. I mean for example, will the electric motor contribute in an overtaking with extra torque? Also it has a max speed of 165km/h, will it start to get difficult from 130-140? Since it is a heavier car than previous and it has 104hp (combustion engine only) comparing to 198hp of the 1.6T.
I'd have to test drive to find those out for sure. However, Hyundai is constantly upgrading HEV logics to pump the best performance out of a vehicle (mostly mpg with hybrids in this case), and HEV also comes with what's called e-Ride, utilizing the motor to counter the pitching of a car going over a speed bump and necessary road conditions. The motor will constantly engage and disengage to use the power and charge the battery, I will definitely check those out when I have the chance to test drive the HEV.
I love subcompact SUV and used to drive the first generation Kona here in Canada. It is amazing to see how much more new features the new Kona is delivering. WOW, love it. 😍
Hyundai simply embarrassed those european luxury auto makers with the new Kona 😘
All 1st gen KONA owners have been loving the 2nd gen thus far!
I have a hyundai i30 here in Greece and is a great car. I love reading - viewing new models of Hyundai first and this happens to your channel for sure before they arrive to my country. Awesome test drive!
Thanks for watching 🇬🇷

Thank you so much for your efforts in presenting to us the latest and greatest from the Kona. And, if you might remember, i was the person asking you about the HUD and the blindspot monitors in the dashboard. I'm so happy to see that both have been implemented and are coming in the new Kona. Once again, thank you for those videos of yours. Much appreciated /bow
Thanks for the comment! There is no HUD for this year model, unfortunately. Nothing confirmed, but that could be different in later year models.

Thank you very much for the detailed review of the new and redesigned 2024 KONA. I enjoyed watching the video and other car videos that you made.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the comment 🥰
Seriously deep information and clean 4k high quality :) 3:37 the camcorder scene looks really clean
Thanks Yunki!
I ordered mine today and will receive it in about 2 - 6 weeks.

Thanks! 🇬🇧 Proceed - the car that Korea doesn't get! Love that car!
Great video man. You covered many details which cannot be found around the internet!
Glad it was helpful! :)
Great review as ever, thank you. Looking forward to the EV review.
Will have it asap, thanks!
Thanks for your enthusiastic and informative review, it helped me decide to order the Kona as my next car here in The Netherlands.
Much appreciated, a wise choice I can assure you!
Looking forward to the car being launched here, in the U.K. great video!
It will be hear in September I have got the 72 plate I'm a bit gutted still a good car
Thanks for this exclusive review for us in Canada!. hope too see more ! Eric L
Thanks Eric, more coming soon, starting with comparing it to my 2023 Kia Seltos :)
Thank you for another informative video, including info on trunk size. In future video please tell us the length of the cargo area with the back seats folded down. Can not wait to see your video on the ev version, including will it come in AWD, and will it have a heat pump? keep up the good work!
No official info on KONA EVs yet, but Niro EV gets the heat pump, why not KONA! I will check the folded seats next.
I'm really looking forward to the new Kona, going to try to get one this year!
Excellent work!
Thank you! Cheers!
This is the best Kona detailed review out there! Awesome job showing all the details inside and out. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the comment, keeps me going! 🚀
I'm so glad the buttons is back!
Hi thanks
for your video, very complete. Best regards from Italy
Grazie mille :)
Great indepth look! I used to watch Asian Petrolhead but unfortunately he no longer uploads. And this channel is the fill I need! Look forward to the next!
Welcome aboard :)
I just realized how nice the Kona is this year and was going to buy a 2023, but now Im definitely waiting for the 2024. So nice!!
I've been saying for years Kia Hyundai use poor cheap wire harnesses which turn into electrical problems on the vehicles & now fires, I had a 16 Sorento what a nightmare almost everything broke electrical issues up the a** battery continually dying, moon roof wouldn't close just a disaster, they entice with the designs of the car but reliability eventually catches up to you... I remember Hyundai back in the 80s Pony Stellar were also disasters.
@@dfsdh432v9??
@@dfsdh432v9 That's some very bad luck. They are generally reliable cars, they were actually a lot less reliable back in the day.
Have a first gen Kona, absolutely no problems, except some very small rattle in the dashboard, after 6 years.
Then again, mine was built in South Korea and Shipped to Europe. In the USA I don't know where they are built.
@@danepherThey've come a very long way indeed!
Thank you for the in depth look, especially the trunk measurements. Really helpful. And the Kona looks really good overall, excited for the EV.
My pleasure!
Felicidades, excelente trabajo y muy bien comentado, te lo has currado mucho. Tengo ganas de probarlo aquí en España. Saludos
Muchas gracias por tus amables palabras, ¿cómo es Hyundai en España? 🇪🇸
You should get a % cut from every Hyundai/Kia/Genesis sale around the world. These videos are better than any official ad or marketing material.
Now you're going to make me cry...The best comment that a car RUclipsr can ever get. Thanks for making my day!
nice complete review
Wonderful video. Thank you 👌😁
Thank you too!
Great video! Go on!
Thanks, will do!
Awesome 👍waiting for EV
Very soon!
Was looking for a test drive of the Kona EV, but a thumbs up anyway.
Will soon be available on the channel :)
Gracias por el video , esperando que llegue a Europa
Thank you for this very detailed review! I've been considering the Kia Xceed or the Kia Sportage for my next car, but I really like what Hyundai did with the new Kona. The fact that they increased the size to be more-or-less equal to the Xceed, but with a bigger boot makes it a very interesting option for my needs. And look at all the physical buttons! And not a centimeter of the dreaded piano black in the interior! Finally!
Can't wait for the cars to arrive at Polish dealerships so I can try one out. The new Kona is currently at the top of my list as a possible next purchase.
Buttons, no piano black! Yay!
The DCT IS SO MUCH BETTER
Wow what an amazing car 😍👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Waiting Kona in Greece!Awesome!
Definitely on my radar in HEV form, price-depending. What I love most is... PHYSICAL BUTTONS, and NO piano gloss trash seen!
I prefer non-piano black as well, but they're quite nice these days with constant upgrades! :)
does it have Wireless Apple CarPlay?. amazing review, thank you!
Wire connection required.
Got my Kona 1.6 Hybrid delivered last monday in Ecotronic gray Pearl. The Hyundai dealer salesman first delivery of the new Kona. Very very comfortable and smooth ride! Despite the comfortable suspension very little body roll in corners. A lot roomier than the first Kona. Great job by Hyundai!
And I think it looks superb. Off course this is subject to taste, but I got positive reponses from others so far.
I agree with you 100% especially the body roll part 👀 Kona's slogan is actually "Nimble," and it sure is nimble on corners. I had great fun driving N-Line(the last generation though where it had different suspension and engine :P)
“Absolutely Magnificent Review, Quite…. Informative and Very Entertaining
Glad to hear it!
This new Kona looks very good!
Great in depth review. I'm really excited about this car and looking forward to possibly making the EV model our second car.
KONA will shine the best as an EV..!
Thanks a lot for answering my comment of plastics quality! I hope in Europe arrives with better quality as the market is a bit more demanding than other regions in the world.
I couldn’t really tell anything “cheap” inside KONA, I think it is reasonable quality given the class.
Hi, thanks for the video, it have all main details, i liked also the measured with roulette. I'm from Romania (Europe) and i'm watching with big interest for your videos about the New 2023 Kona.
I can't wait to see the EV version! This will be also interesting for me.
Keep doing this job and all the best 👍
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the kind comment.
Hey man I love this Kona rare looks great SUV quality let me know only 1.6 AWD we can see later the put on N performance it be AWD or not and please make more test video stability 0-100 test or if the spin wheel vs rain
Very informative video with lots of facts and details, thank you! I just have one question: Does it have wireless android auto/carplay?
Hate to break it to you, but no 🥲 Wire connection required.
Thanks for the video! Really informative and that's a beautiful car. I'm a bit surprised though that there is no (semi) automatic parallel parking system (if I understood correclty) with all this technology on board.
Still is an entry level SUV after all, it seems 🥲
I definitely will switch my current 2022 Creta with this 2024 Kona, once it's available in Indonesia.
Thank you for this in depth review 👍👍
My pleasure! Congrats!
I will buy it when arrives in Europe FANTASTIC CAR AND BRAND AND Perfect SIZE FOR SMALL FAMILY.
Good choice!
My order for the Preferred just arrived and I’m so excited to pick it up!!! I was wondering if you have recommendations for Dash Cams?!
Highly recommended! Congrats!
Hey, I sell Hyundai Cars in Poland. And today i got a new client. A Woman Who saw Your (this) video, and ordered Kona Hybrid, even without a testdrive!
Thank You so much❤
Oh, wow. I’m lost for words. Glad my video helped you and the lady. Thanks for finding me and leaving the comment. Really means a lot to me!
@@CarSceneKorea at work we watch all videos with cars on our European Market💪
0: 0:03 I've been watching this car ever since it came out. Hoping I could get it in a Hybrid. Well that's not happening so my second choice is N-line. I'll be 78 this summer and in my heart I always wanted a little Hot Rod and this could be it. I watch every review I see on RUclips. Looking forward to getting this car.I live in Delray Beach,Florida USA
Congrats! KONA rolling on the streets of Florida would look beautiful.
it's sounds good👍
Great review and you have covered pretty much everything! Just one quick question: In many videos, I've seen that the Seamless Horizon Lamp is turned off in the middle part while driving despite the car being equiped with the full lenght DRL. Do you have any thoughts on why and when this happens? Thank you!
There needs to be a break for a DRL, so drivers can differentiate a left and right DRL, whereas that's not needed for night-time headlights.
So good
Can't wait for you to drive the hybrid Kona! Hopefully we get the 2024 hybrid on Canada.
Coming asap!
Thank you for your thorough review! Do you have any information regarding the ground clearance?
Thanks for the comment. I don't have a precise figure for that 🥲
Love your reviews! What's the main difference between the limited and n line tech wise? Is it the cameras and 360 parking views?
N-Line focuses on more of an aesthetic aspect than performance, at least for KONA atm. Sonata still gets a bit diff engine & transmission.
Very interesting SUV 👍
Thanks from the UK for an excellent video. Your car did not have the head up display on the windscreen. Is this feature likely to be restricted to the n-line variant do you know ?
The ICE model doesn’t get the HUD (for now).
Wonderful review of a beautiful car. Will any of the 2024 Kona trims have Head-up display?
Not this year model, unfortunately. It could be added on later ones. Thanks for the comment!
💪🏼 Great video! Thanks a lot for this. I'm interested in the total length of the trunk, i.e. with the rear seat folded down. Could you measure that? There won't be any differences with the BEV, will there?
No set info on BEV, but given this KONA was built as an EV first bottom up, the interior would look quite similar to ICE. I didn't have the chance to measure with the seats folded, sry 🥲
@@CarSceneKorea Hi, what a pity! Then I'll wait for your test with the Kona EV. Maybe you can measure it then? 😉
Thanks for the impressions! Did you receive any new info from Hyundai about whether or not the Electric model will be offered with the N Line appearance package?
No set info on that yet, but since N-Line focuses on cosmetic things from now on, so maybe? But given the nature of EV being, that body kits might not be applicable. I'm personally curious about this too, I will share the info when I find out asap.
Greetings from Australia. Like you we drive a Seltos GTLine 1.6T DCT and look forward to testing the new Second Generation KONA NLine (a Red one!) in around June/July down here. We are impressed with the features that this new KONA provides for the driver both in comfort and vehicle performance. Particularly impressed with all other features, but particularly with the 64Gb SIM to capture recorded-image of a “dash cam” function with easily identified access dates and times. It appears that there is no spare provided which might need to be in the OZ version. We hope that they don't play around with the Australian suspension which, on the Seltos resulted in a rather heavy drive. We are waiting for your test drive of the NLine - is this still a probability soon? We enjoy your presentations and like you we are sad to see the departure of the Stinger which unfortunately didn't take off in our SUV environment.
Thanks for the insight and also watching my video. From now on, N-Line models only focus on cosmetic parts such as bodykit(bumpers), interior fabric(Alcantra, etc.), no performance related upgrades like they were in previous N-Lines thus far. Suspension, engine, all those remain the same. Having said the above, N-Line will most likely be applicable across all types and trims, a little bit doubtful on the EV though given the nature, but will soon find out. I will def review N-Line when possible.
What are those two built-in cameras recording? Incidents or all the time like dash cam does and can users see recordings via some app? Can use access recordings and for how long are recording hold? Can you make a video on that? Thank you in advance!
This car looks impressive! I hope Hyundai keeps the same trim for Europe.
It is an on-board camera that records both video/audio of your drive and certain hours of footage when parked. You can watch/download it via smartphone.
Nice review my Korean honorary Canadian buddy! Are you going to the Kia EV9 reveal?
Amazing car…waiting in Malta🇲🇹
Thanks for watching from Malta🇲🇹
Awesome DK!!! I realise this isn't the EV yet but much of it will be similar particularly for internal space, hope you did a rear seat check when the drivers seat is in a 6'+ driver is there. :) Is it a flat floor front and back or is there a transmission tunnel? Has a Ioniq 5 vib to the look for the side at least. Interesting there is so many buttons on the instrument cluster in the middle considering how few there are in the Ioniq 5. I like a few buttons but not sure about how many there is. Maybe the EV edition will be different. Interesting just a normal sunroof rather than a panoramic roof.
There's a transmission tunnel as you can see at 22:21, but it's not that tall. I don't see it bothering passengers much. Thanks for the comment, always :)
Will it have a back camera spray wash for wintertime driving we need it ..
I am from the USA. Thank you for your video. I was going to buy the "Chevy 2024 Trax 2RS". I took my name off the 2024 Trax 2RS that I had on hold for me to buy. I am going to wait to see your new SUV. I am going to my Hyundai dealership Monday 05/21/23 to talk to him about this car.
Both great cars, hope KONA won’t let you down!
Both great cars, hope KONA won’t let you down!
Great and detailed review. One thing is left out, size of fuel tank. Really appreciate if you let us know
It says it's 47L on Hyundai official website :)
www.hyundai.com/kr/ko/e/vehicles/the-all-new-kona/spec
I'm very interested in the electric Kona, and can't wait for it to come out. Do you think it will have front or rear wheel drive? will it have V2L? Doesn't it have any lounge lights? and how much do you think it will cost? thank you
Last thing I want to do is share my personal thoughts and guesses on cars that aren't release just yet :) I've seen a pre-production model, and it was front wheel driven.
I love the mirage green but my daughter voted for Atlas White!
Kona looks super clean in Atlas White!
Do you have any ideea if there will be a smartphone app with Hyundai Kona ice ? I know we can star engine with the key but i was interested in starting the car and setting temperature from the smartphone. 😊
It does in Korea and I believe that’s global!
I would recommend this when it comes to Australia i would also recommend the sonata n line
Hello I have a question for Hyundai Kona in Korea. Can 18 inch alloys be ordered as an option on petrol engine instead of 19 inch. Or 18 inch are just on Hybrid version.
Does this sit high up like the Seltos? Or more lower like the Niro? Wish it had Harmon Kardon sound system like my Kia Soul. Sounds so much better with its spatial sound option. Wish it had a HUD love mine. I'm debating on a Niro Sportage and now the Kona HEV. Wish the Seltos had a HEV version as that is the perfect size small SUV that sits up higher.
Keen question. I'd say somewhere between the two precisely, but more closer if not same as Seltos for the seating position - I always lower the seat closest to the ground to keep it objective to the best I can. HUD might come with later year models.
Think I watched your walk around video and now your test/drive. I have 5-cameras on my Rogue. My thought is, why have they not thought of using the cameras also like a Dash-Cam. It would be great if you did not have to be ADDING another camera on the windshield and these fully equipped models can have the security of monitoring and parking mode security. No one has mentioned this option but hope they can find a way to make this happen or even as an "Aftermarket" upgrade.
Good point. I'm thinking it probably has to do with cost, placement, durability and more. Where the dash cam sits is not jus the onboard cam, but also hi-pass(toll pass system for Korea). Personally, I think it has to do with the line of sight mostly.
Amazing review! One big boomer in my case is that in EU it comes with just 2 specs and both are 2WD (Luxury and Premium). The biggest downside is that even in the Luxury package, I miss a lot of the features (eg. 360 cameras, extra button on the remote for getting in/out of parking spots, camera for blind spots and some more). Is that something that Hyundai wanted or is the Luxury package mislabeled in EU on purpose by the importers?
Cars' specifications and options differ from a country to another, some countries solely depend on the dealership to import which they want - i.e., the USA. Best answer I can give you here is that these options are "possible" with Kona 🥲
Hi nice detailed review. Is it wired or wireless Carplay/Android auto?
Still wired 🥲
Looking forward to the HEV review
asap!
Will there be a 2024 Kona N? That's all I need to know. Also, you brought up an excellent point about keeping the Kona small. Due to the small size of my garage, I may be forced to go out and find a leftover or used 2023 model, since the 2024 gained weight and size.
No.
No info about the N, unfortunately.
Can you customize the boot up system sound with a personalized soundtrack ?
Very cool car , I will get the all wheel drive model 1.6t I’m not interested in EV or Hybrid now
3 things: Does the Kona have a spare tire? Can you turn off the auto stop function? Are those dashcams able to record and save accident occurrences? I currently own a 2022 Kona N Line and during the time I've owned it, many of the features you discuss are things I saw lacking in the current version. Definitely want a chance to own a 2024. I live in the US in Colorado.
KONA doesn't get a spare tire, it comes with a puncture kit like recent HMG cars. There's no ISG on KONA 1.6T(at least). Yes, dashcam records 100% during the drives, not sure how long it lasts with Parking alone, but does easily last overnight. I've had fair amount of time with previous gen KONA, these upgrades are indeed a charm.
I'd say it's worth the upgrade..! We didn't have the chance to test it out ourselves yet bc Hyundai is just starting, but that 33 points via OTA will definitely be something too!
@CarSceneKorea dang no spare tire! 🥺 would it be available to purchase one and place it in the back?
@@elunex8588 A key question for me as well. I would be happy with a space saver.
Edit. this guy answers our question and the answer is yes ruclips.net/video/lDE7VT1v-cQ/видео.html
I wouldn't like to be the BMW driver who had to leave his car on a jack at side of the road while he got his tire replaced.
As for start stop my next car will probably be a hybrid to avoid that. On my VW it is more like Stop don't Start. It should have a warning chime to remind you to turn it off 🙂
Great review, very thorough. Thank you.
I'm not sure if Apple Carplay and Android Auto is big in Korea or not, but it is used heavily in North America. Hyundai still does not have wireless Apple Carplay or Android Auto which is very frustrating. What's the point of having a wireless charger when you still need a cable to connect your phone.
Very true. Not that Hyundai doesn’t have the tech, but I believe it is the legal issues they might have.
@@CarSceneKorea I read the same. They can make the screens wireless as is, but due to the large screens etc there is some very complicated legal issues. Nobody seems to have exact answer but my local dealer said Kia uses the same screen and has the same issue.
Just love love the changes! Does it have soft interior materials?
Plastics here and there, but Hyundai has been doing a great job with their new interior materials, doesn't feel or look all that cheap. However, do keep it mind that it ain't leather.
@@CarSceneKorea Thanks for the quick reply, idc about leather I much rather have vegan but I do wish Hyundai used soft injection plastic around the door panels
@@JulyOverland Elantra PE upgraded their first row plastic door panel, not exactly sure if KONA shares the same, but wasn't bad at all.
I’m excited for the electric one
Kamsahamnda Great Car Video Review Kudos
hello congratulations for the video ... I would like to know the consumption of this full hybrid ... urban cycle ... extra-urban cycle and highway ... thank you very much
Can't wait to see the color and features for the North American (U.S.) market. My criticism of the size increase is this: The current Kona, 2023 and older, being smaller, looks and feels more sporty, like a slightly larger hot-hatch. The new design however looks and feels more like traditional SUV in size and look, which is ultimately confusing to me because Hyundai already offers the Tuscon, so the ideology for the Kona change leads me to think more changes to the SUV lineup is coming. I wanted the shorter, lower, sportier compact SUV with AWD for winter driving at an affordable price, and the Kona offers that currently. The 2024 refresh takes some of that away and some of my enthusiasm with it, so I'll have to see the 2024 Kona in person before I decide if I want to get one.
Hyundai increased the size of the Kona to better compete with the competition, to retain the customers who aren't able to afford a fully loaded Tucson, give size and price gap for the Venue (and future Ai3 city crossover).
Good points. I think I go over your thoughts later in the video around 34:15
I will let you decide and after seeing it for yourself, but what I can assure you is that this KONA is still much closer to the last KONA than it is to Tucson in every single way. It did get larger, but not by much(in terms of the physical car dimensions itself), but has larger interior/trunk. You may say that I'm contradicting myself here, but every inch counts when it comes to compact SUVs like KONA and that's why.
@@CarSceneKorea I read Seltos, took a lot of Kona sales away in Australia, same size more or less, so even though Hyundai KIA are same parent company, that Kona needed to lift its game to get in front of Seltos.
Does this have the head up display option?
Do the headrests adjust? Love the Kona, but headrest adjusting is a necessary. TY.
Vertically, yep.
Does gasoline model have start stop and a button to disable it? Old version had it (at least in EU market).
EDIT: Yes, there is on the left, next to the steering wheel.
As far as I recall, there is no ISG on this KONA. The steering wheel icon you see on the steering wheel is for LFA, Lane Following Assist: It supports by automatically operating steering wheel to drive in the center of the lane and LKA, Lane Keeping Assist.
I will come back to this comment if I come across ISG on KONA, but I doubt it, never had the engine shutting off driving over 1,000km.
Aa a Kona n Owner. Newly launched the 2gen Kona must have tuned it up based on data accumulated in the past that which direction should be better for a better sailes point expanded. suspension seems to be suited for all round player. waiting for 2gen Kona N lauching.
As a previous N owner - I had VN DCT - I really wish to see an N with this KONA, but the future is grim...
Any footage of the different Cluster themes? Like in the menus, potentially hidden ones? Not just the drive modes.
There's a little more detailed view on the cluster in Grandeur video here:

@@CarSceneKorea a ti siempre !
This is awesome my dad has hopes of getting one around the summer time before September. Do you have any idea when they will show us this in the USA? I know it’s going to be on sale in the summer.
It's usually been about 6 months delay since the debut in Korea until the launch in the US. I don't have a set time, but hopefully in a couple of months!
@@CarSceneKorea I just got a update we will see the USA spec at the New York Auto Show on the first week of April.
The launch is usually neck in neck these days. Delivers, another story, but glad hearing the early update! :)
Once the brake pedal travels a little more do the brakes stop the car well? I have a 2020 tuscan and the brakes are a little weak.
There's no doubt about the braking performance itself. Just the input and way brake pedals respond have been changing gradually over generations within Hyundai cars. You'd feel the difference immediately once you drive a Hyundai that's about 2 or 3 generations older.
