Awesome. So happy I'll be able to keep my stellar cinema display. Found mine on ebay a while ago. Just got an M3 macbook pro, so this video is great, thank you!
Hi Johnny, I am not sure why the ACD 30" is not working for you on the M3 MBP. I have the display hooked to a 14” M3 Max MBP using the Club3D adapter and it works perfectly fine :) But good to see that you found a work around that can help other people that are running into the same issue.
Well, I'm finally gonna have to do the big purchase in a week or so and I'm going with the M2 Studio because I can't wait for the M4, because I am very literally losing the ability to do things on my 2010 tower. Long ago, browsers began deteriorating and I was able to work around that, but now Apple Mail is crashing when I open it and I have to do funky things like holding down the "shift" key when opening it and doing other things in order to keep it from crashing, and so on (Yes, I've done all kinds of clean ups and workarounds, but they are just that: workarounds). It's become a major frustration and I'm gonna by big-time sad to lose my 4 hard drive drawers that I've been so used to over the decades. Anyway, I have my Club 3D adapter; now I just have to spring for the machine. Thanks for these videos. I'm sure you'll find a way to get the M4 Studios hooked up to the 30" when they become available, but that'll be next summer at the earliest, I'm sure.
Could you check and report back that the Club 3D CAC-1510A works without the extra HDMI to USB-C on the new Sonoma 14.4 update on the M3? There are succes stories on Mac-rumors regarding this adapter and the new update.
I am running a 2008 cinema 30 with my Macbook pro M3 pro, no problem using the club 3d-adapter. running sonoma 14.4.1. Sometimes the HCDP does not kick in (so prime video runs with low resolution), but usually no problems.
So happy to see this. I was thinking that I'd have to get an M2 Mac Studio (as the latest) to be able to still use the monitor, but it's good to see that the M3 is a possibility. I'm still thinking M2 because of it now going down in price ... and I'm hoping I'm correct in thinking that a Studio with M3 and your config will work. Anyway, I gotta do it soon. My 14-15 year tower is becoming obsolete. Thanks again!
I have no problem with my 30" Apple Cinema Display (2008) paired with my MacBook Pro M3 pro, using the club 3d-adapter. HDCP works also (so you may watch streaming services). I also got it to work ACD->apple-dual-dvi-minidisplayport-adapter->thunderbolt 2 hub->apple thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter, but that was a lot of dongles...
Im pretty sure a OWC 14 port Thunderbolt Dock Will work, and can be had for cheap on eBay these days $20-30. It certainly works on a M2 to ACD 30. The club 3d worked poorly on M2 to ACD 30 with wavy lines on black parts of the screen.
Thanks for figuring this out. I have a MBP m3 ordered and have two 30” cd’s I’d like to run side by side. Where in the chain would expect I’d join the signal? Would I need to have both ‘dongles’ from each monitor set up in a hdmi+usbc hubs?
Good solution! And nice videos. I have seen also the other ones on this monitor. What is your experience with the brightness and sharpness of these monitors? I bought (and sold) one, and the brightness was not that great. It took too much effort for my eyes to use it normally. Sharpness was also a bit worse than my dell 27 1440 monitor. cheers!
The BIG question is, with that working over HDMI, can we finally get the ACD30 working with an old AppleTV3 (the one with the nice remote)? That would be a great way to put old Apple gear to use as an Airplay TV. Audio would have to go out via the unhelpful optical-only toslink jack Apple limited the ATV to, but such is life.
Some people were reporting even with M1 Macs that the setup prevented their Mac from sleeping. However, I wasn't actually aware that Apple Silicon Macs "sleep" in the traditional sense of the word. As far as I know, full-on "sleep" mode is no longer a thing (as of Apple Silicon) and instead the computer is more or less always idle and ready as opposed to actually sleeping. Do you know what, then, people were referring to?
Hey I wanted to ask, what is the best color resolution that you chose for this on Mac when video editing. I read online that this display should be set at P3. what do you think. I trust you more honestly
Can I connect 2 x Apple 30" Cinema Displays though.. Worked fine on my Mac Mini using a USB=C to HDMI hub, but as soon as I upgraded to an M2 Mac Studio, I was only able to set up a one single monitor connection.
Hi! Are you using the original Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter and still encountering issues with M3 Macs? Thx! I have 3 of these 30" monitors and just LOVE them.
For some reason, the original Apple Dual-LInk Adapter no longer works for me (even on M1), so I just use the Club3D adapter for M1/2), and then I add the additional adapter I noted in this video for M3-based Macs.
Sadly, I tried all the adapters with my 30, but none worked. The Apple adapter did work with my old Intel Mac 2013, but none of the Silicon machines worked with the 30.
Just purchased all the connectors and tried this out. It works initially, but later on (after 10-20 min) the monitor flickers on/off and the image becomes gradually more interlaced/distorted (MBP M3 Max)
Update: since Mac OS 14.4.1 was released, this works w/ an M3 MBP using just the Club3D connector. Been running it the last two days and seems stable, monitor wakes along w/ the laptop too.
Tried your solution and it is giving me an interlaced unusable scrolling image on my Cinema 30" (which works fine with my good ol Mac Pro 2010). I bought what you suggested and have it all plugged in the same as shown with the USB-A to usb A.. Does not work at all with the Yotomaster. I am on a brand new M3 Pro Max. Hoping I am missing something. Fingers crossed
The Yottamaster is meant to give you more ports back AFTER you use the HDMI to USB-C Converter. The Yottamaster won't work for the display. Make sure you follow the chain correctly. DVI from display > Club3D > HDMI to USB-C converter > then plug in HDMI into HDMI port on M3 Max, and the USB-A into the laptop directly (via USB-A to USB-C).

great news that solves the M3 problem on the macbook pro - the macbook air doesn't have an hdmi port - has anyone tried this solution using a USB C to HDMI adaptor?
Do not buy this old display if planning to watch anything stream related (Netflix , max, prime ) which are copyrighted. These old displays will turn black when streaming copyrighted content. Nobody wants to talk about this .
@@maxfiebig7133 RUclips videos work fine however RUclips movies will not display (black screen with audio only ) previews and commercials work fine . In any case , I plan to make a video about this .

Yes, I have it connected, you need the Club 3D CAC-1510 apple cinema version adapter

do you have mini display port ports if so uses the one apple sells for the mini display port to dvi

Does the HDMI-converter work in any other setting? Like with another monitor or any random other computer? It could be, you just got a faulty device.
