My friend told me about thai town today and i now googling it. I wish i found this out before and mention to my son who was there xmas. Brad, you were sick 90%of the time, but at least youve been there. I now sit here and just crave for those dessert and food. Lucky you for a Thai wife who can cook you all the yummy food!!
The first shop you went into, Pontip... I grew up in Sydney and have been good mates with one of Pontips sons for over 25 years. We used to hang out at the stores (they had multiple locations in the area over decades along Campbell, Pitt, George and a few other streets) all the time as teenagers and when we worked in the city as young adults we would all meet up there, throw down a few krutendaaengs (precusor to red bull) and hit up the bars. Pontip (she sold the store and retired maybe 10 years ago) was the first Thai store in the area. Before Thais took over it was a part of China Town with little Chinese markets and butchers everywhere around the Capitol Theatre. She would find Thai expats to employ for buying the fresh food at the markets and delivering to restaurants all over town etc. She was a real personality and all her kids (4 in total) are incredibly intelligent, wise and always so chill. We would all go out and drink at places like 888 for karaoke (demolished), The Chamberlain for laid back times (was a blue collar bar back then), Shark Bar or Scruffys for dancing (I think Shark is now Mr B's or Yoksod) or The Civic when we wanted to pretend we were cultured by hanging around a lot of yuppy gay people. It was mainly Koreans in the area then. By pure coincidence I've been living and working in Thailand for years now and went back to Sydney for the first time a recently and met up with a former co-worker here who made the move there. She took me to all the Thai bars and it shocked me how much of the area was Thai now. The World Square area was always Asian dominated. But it was a big surprise that it was Thais who became the dominate nationality when it was so Korean and Chinese for a long time.
Thai town is great, I visited here in 2016 with my wife. Lots of thai groceries and restaurants plus friendly Thai people gives a good Thailand feeling. I stayed in a hotel in the same street it’s great to just step out the door and get great fresh food right away. Good job with the video Brad and ta.
Ah yes, good old Sydney...very pricey indeed! As for Mr B's you probably know Brad that use to be the famous "Mandarin Club" which served Yum Cha back in the 1970's, I use to go there a lot as a child with my mum and dad...as for Campbell St that use to be part of Chinatown before the Thai shops took over...thanks for the upload...👍👍
The weather looks like a typical day here in Los Angeles. Here in LA we have discovered a few nice Thai restaurants some are hit and miss with the quality of the food. My girlfriend and I discovered a Thai temple that host street good sales on the weekends and is pretty darn good. You needed a closer shot of the lady in the beginning of the video to see Ta's reaction then.
I've never traveled even close to OZ (is it correct for me to use this abbreviation for Australia?). It looks like a lovely city .... nice and clean. Hope you enjoyed your family visit. How long is the flight from Bangkok to Sydney?
Hi Brad and Ta! Great videos Brad. I've just found you and I am enjoying catching up on your videos. I don't know I even have a HBO subscription anymore. Brad, I don't eat sugar. And, I know Thai's love sugar in their coffee but can you ask Ta if there sugar is used in many of the chili sauces? I know recipes will vary according to the cook but just in general I was wondering. I watched your video of you and Ta shopping a street market and you stopped to visit a merchant selling different chili sauces, again I know the merchant will have his own recipes, but that is an example where I wonder if sugar has been used. I'm planning to retire to Thailand in about a year. I am really excited to the different foods around Thailand. I haven't made up my mind about the ant eggs though, although I'm sure they are a great source of protein. Anyway Brad, I hope my rambling is comprehensible. Have a good trip back to Thailand!
Interesting video.few years ago I was in Sidney for 3 days. Mmm missed the Thai area..Before coming to Sidney I was in Brisbane for 6 weeks with an Australian Friend. Well. He was my friend Sue's cousin brother. He had a beautiful home with a swimming pool. Little sad I cannot swim. Sue was my travel companion from Yorkshire at that time. From Sidney we went to Melbourne for three days. Flew back to Sidney to catch the Flight to Sri Lanka via Singapore. We were in Sri Lanka for two weeks.with my Family. Sue went to Sri Lanka twice with me. Mmmm good old days.
We visited the Buddhist temple at Nerang , Gold Coast yesterday . Ian and I liked it - we had lunch with the nice Thai ladies . While here in Australia you and Ta are invited to visit us if you like here on Tamborine Mountain . Have an enjoyable stay .
G'Day Russell I very much appreciate the offer, but I'm back in Thailand now. Before I moved to Thailand I used to love going to a Thai Temple in Sydney, the "parishioners" would all bring food and everyone would share it after the service. I have to say that the food was my favourite part about going. Have a great day Brad & Ta
I hope Ta doesn't read your reply. She's the only reason we invited you (just kidding)LOL . I just learned what Kow Phat Moo Khob is - sounds AROY . Graham(RUclips vlog - "GRAHAM and PIE") used to order it all the time at his favourite Noodle shop in Chiang Saen . Blessings from Tamborine Mountain , Queensland .P.S. - please send some rain
Hi brad and ta ,we only have an asian grocer or two here as far as i know i will have to take chon on a shopping trip when she comes here or she will starve as i dont think she would like our farang food , i bet you pay a lot more than 20 baht for those deserts in sydney, i quite often go to the chinese grocer when i go to the city and have a look around so much stuff in there and i dont know what it is apart from sesame oil and a few other things .Looks like sydney must have a large thai population compared to sleepy old adelaide anyway great video take care .

Ah, nice tip about going to Mr B;s - im a Sydney-ite but havent been there so will put it on my list (especially if i can meet a Thai girl there 555) Cheers
Coffee with a bunch of sugar in it is really bad for your blood pressure. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor and sugar causes inflammation, hypertension, and weight gain. It's best (and much cheaper) to make your own coffee (preferably decaf) at home and use Stevia as a sweetener.
Yes, Khun Ta! My wife wondered the same thing. "Why are you following that girl?" Brad doesn't know how jealous Thai women are...yet. Haha! Edit: My wife says, "Oh he knows." Haha!
G'Day Welcome to Our Life Thai Yes, I know Springvale well. I lived in Endeavour Hills for a few years. Not so much Thai food there, more Vietnamese and Chinese. Thanks for sharing Take care Brad & Ta
