Messi is my GOAT. He did not 'show up and show out' at this Copa America. He was injured for most of it and it clearly hampered him. He wasn't even Top 5 in his own team.
Messi is famous for wanting to play every minute of every game. So for him, in what is undoubtedly his final ever Copa America, to decide that he was so badly injured that someone else would give more to the team than he could in that moment shows you just how banged up he was.
It wasn't just the right decision it was flat out a heroic decision. It allowed them to win the final. Messi should be so highly praised for it. That said, probably his worst International Tournament ever.
He was involved in most of the goals this year too at copa.
Ronaldo's fans claim that Messi was injured and therefore this final title does not count .What a logic. Wasn't Ronaldo injured as well when he got his first title with Portugal?

Honestly, Messi didn't do much in this copa america. But he carried Argentina for more than a decade and he is the reason they are here right now. Undeniable GOAT.

This Copa america messi was on full of injury that's why he didn't perform well. on final match also he suffered with that injury problem. i hope he will recover soon. Messi leading ability was great copa america 2021 and fifa wc 2022 was his best performance and team is now best in the form.

He played well both Canada matches. Probably MOTM in both, people just love to overrate whoever scores the goals in a match (a good example is Messi's lone goal this tournament against Canada, just because he scored it didn't make his match better than what it was without the goal). He had 2 MOTM performances out of 5 matches he played in. He was not bad but had little participation against Chile, didn't play against Peru and he had an objectively bad game vs Ecuador. He was playing pretty well against Colombia but he got injured. He missed time and had a bad game against Ecuador, but this narrative that he was bad is ONLY because he's Messi. Had anyone else played as well as he did vs Canada they would've been applaued for their performance.
Still messi was involved in most of the goals this year too.

Before 2024, Argentina didn't win a world cup for 36 years! All this time before 2021 Messi was playing and didn't win a World cup for ages.
