  • In this excerpt of a conversation with head of TED Chris Anderson, AI developer (and Deepfake Tom Cruise co-creator) Tom Graham explores how photoreal AI-generated content - media that looks and sounds exactly like the real world - will come to permeate our lives over the next decade. He offers a proof of concept directly from the stage as they discuss the creative and educational potential of this technology along with its risk for exploitation.

    imagine having "a new set of institutions" that will dictate "the truth"; even if you see something with your own eyes, they will tell you it's not true and you will accept it or go to jail, or you will go to jail anyway because maybe this 'institution' wants you in jail and they just say that you murdered someone.

    • @OxygenBeats
      @OxygenBeats Год назад

      the solution SHOULD NOT be to trust "institutions" to tell you what is true and what is not, because that's a very very very dangerous dystopian slippery slope. These deep fakes do leave behind artifacts which are not present from real video/content. So the solution should be to educate the public on this and to make everyone understand how important this is and how to do their own research... but the elites are dying to be in control of the truth; they will finally take back the control they lost to the internet age and in fact, they will have even more control than before.

    What benefits can come from lies??
    Nothing wholesome & pure from my experience. My family pushed & pushed holiday characters on me, to 1 day revile they were lying. That had a significant impact on my trust in my family & and others later in life. I never know what to believe unless I experience it myself, but then I have biases & have had flashbacks & hallucinations, so I don't have anything I can truly trust. I just coast through life & try to adapt. Hope for the best, but plan for & expect the worst.

      @@austindenotter19 When I was younger I had the pompous attitude that my future children would know who's bought them their Christmas gifts and I'd never impose the Santa Claus lore onto them. Well, I grew up, realized there's something to be said for giving children an innocent magical thing to believe in (much like "meeting" Disney characters in costume at the theme parks) - they're only little once and you'll never get this time back as a parent and they'll never get this time back as children. I have 4 kids now and from the very first one when I was only 21 years old, even though we're a non-religious (albeit spiritual) family, my kiddos look forward to "Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the tooth fairy" coming every year - the light and magic in their big, bright eyes is so worth it - they're aware of who buys them all of their birthday gifts and literally every other expense. Why burden them with finances at such a young age? It's sad.

That would be a smart thing to do when having that kind of power in your hands. I don't see that here. I only see a worsening of the problem. And it's being sold as the classic "if I don't go for it and therefore make it worse, someone else will" type of narrative. There are other ways to go.
