  • I install the Fat Brass Sustain Block and compare the sound to the stock block with audio recordings using condenser mic and digital recorder.

It definitely brightens up the tone and seems to have a little more punch to it!

Nice improvement! I didn't think the change in tone would be that noticeable! Regarding the block and springs sticking out too high from the back cavity I'd suggest to remove the small shim between the block and the spring plate, it's (apparently) useless and according to FU tone it even reduces sustain

How does it sound without a block? Lmao, might make a video myself. Good tip on marking saddles before removal. Sadly I did not do that RIP intonation.

I saw a RUclips video of a guy who made is own from a brass slab he bought on Amazon. I, too, have noticed the that holes for the strings are too small and shallow. I am thinking of drilling deeper holes on my brass block to accommodate the spring hooks. I have noticed that the FU-Tone brass blocks have holes similar to the size we see on the stock trem blocks. Just be sure to use WD-40 as lubricating oil while drilling.

I never saw the point in changing the block, an original Floyd Rose comes with a plated brass block. None of my favorite guitarists had a fat brass block in their FR guitars but I do see how it can increase sustain.

My 1984 OFR's came with a thick machined brass color block. The 1000 series in my EVH Wolf has the thinner plated block, but it looks cast. 13mm thick machined, vs 8mm cast. I think you get a bit more sustain, and clarity with the thicker one for $35 + install.
Some players say they get unwanted overtones with too much brass.

well if you just want to be unoriginal and do every little thing your favorite guitarists did then thats pretty boring

@@helio1055 He's fortunate. My favorite guitarist never let me look inside their guitar. In fact I never got to meet any of them.

@@helio1055I play a custom shop guitar so you can't get much more original than that. I tried a guitar with a big brass block and didn't like the way it made the floating FR feel. Seems like a waste of $40.

Nice, did the 32mm end up fitting? Did you remove the shim plate like the other comment suggests? I have a newer Dean ML and they have a teeny tiny 28mm block.

If I had the cover, it would not be able to fit over the 32mm block. The previous owner had lost the cover. I have not removed the shim plate.

That Block is made of zinc and comes with the floyd special. All my guitars have floyd rose originals (made in Germany) with fat brass blocks, stainless steel string lock, saddle lock, and lock nut screws also titanium insert blocks. There's no beating that setup in my opinion. My first guitar had a floyd special and it was trash... it never stayed in tune and the saddles got stripped out within 5 string changes. Don't buy specials. Originals is the way to go.

Brass gives more volume and complexity, sounds better imo

material doesnt matter ..the size matters for tone ..quote CEO FUtune parts

    • @railguitar
      @railguitar  Год назад

It's not size, it's mass. Mass = Density x Volume. Different materials have different densities. A lower density part must be made larger than one of higher density to equal the same mass. Also the internal structures and other properties of materials affect how they absorb and transfer energy.
FU-Tone currently offers upgrade blocks made of brass, copper, and titanium. Floyd Rose currently offers brass, tungsten, and stone (granite) upgrades.
It would be great to try all of these but it gets expensive.

I think it’s a scam. Didn’t sound. any different to me. You should have done some lead guitar playing with some sustainable notes to see how long the note held. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    • @railguitar

To me they sound different but yes a longer video with a lot of sustain tests could be done. I want an upgrade block for one of my 7-string guitars and will make a video of that.

If you couldn’t hear the difference you probably haven’t been playing guitar long enough, or you’re too old and your hearings shot
