May I share a tip that I just learned, today? If you need to undo a row of Double Half Hitch knots, you grab the traveling cord, where you started the row, and pull it out, then, you don’t have to undo each knot individually. The traveling knot will slip right out, since half hitches are a bunch of slip knots. So, it basically a reverse of your trick!!!!😃 I hope that makes sense!🙃💖

So far, you're the BEST instructor I've come across in macrame on youtube. I've literally been watching video after video for 4 DAYS, and struggling along, hating it, feeling frustrated. I'm a person who has been knitting/crocheting for 30 years, learning very intricate beading techniques, wire weaving, and more. I have noticed others alternating the working cord (under-over vs over-over) path with the travel cord. How do you know which way to do it?Are there different names? Thank you for making sense of these cords! My Mom used to do lots of designs. She made it look so easy!
I was literally driven to tears two days ago, I was trying to make an owl wallhanging, the pattern involved a hell of a lot of double half hitch knots, I literally lost count how many times I did a row, then undid a row, did a row, undid, it just went on and on and on, I could not, for the life of me seem to get the rows in any order of neatness. Then I had a thought, I took the project off the S hooks and worked on it laying flat on the kitchen work surface and I am pleased to say, suddenly it all clicked into place. I wasn't able to do the shortcut version, but that's okay, I am just glad to, at last, get a nice neat double half hitch knot. Why the hell I chose an owl pattern that consisted of 95% DHHK I will never know, but it worked and I now have no problem. I was even considering only using macrame patterns that didn't contain this knot, that's how insane I was getting LOL! I thank you so much for your tutorials, they are quality!
Great tutorial. I'm trying to learn more about macrame, and this reminded me that friendship bracelets we did as kids. It is the same knot, basically 😅.

I'm rather late to this party but, the double half hitch really has me stumped. I can see how it's done, I just can't do it in relationto macrame. Thank you! I have to say that I was struggling with this knot, mostly because I kept switching hands like you were talking about. I also wasn't practicing on a braided cord but went straight into a project with 3 ply and thought I would be able to figure it out on the fly. I got the square knots down but when it came to the DHH knot I stared at about 5 different RUclips videos and couldn't figure it out. I am so glad I found your video because I understand it so much better now. I'm going to go back to my project and see if I can redo a few of them since they are at the bottom of my project and I didn't cut my cord too short to go back and do that. Thanks again!

Not sure if anyone will see this but I am stuck, I struggle with keeping the tension with the double half hitch knots, so I found a tutorial on reverse double half hitch knots, which is exactly the same just on the back side of the work. I can do that and it actually doesnt look half bad, but when I do it vertically, I struggle with the first knot, it doesnt sit right on either side and looks very untidy. How do I keep the first knot looking the same as the rest??
I know I am responding a bit late to this so were you able to figure it out in the end? I don't think that I am doing anything special for my first knot so I am not sure how to advise...
Another tip is to pull the working cord to the back when making the half hitch knots. I was so confused at first because the knot just looked like a regular overhand knot until i realized if I pulled back when tightening the knot it fell into the right place. I chose a project with all double half hitch knots just so I could perfect it. Also it feels like the name is redundant. I prefer clove hitch.
Amy I am trying a beautiful pattern for the wall, but got stuck on the half hitch, just could not see how to do it until i looked you up again..now I have it thanks so much, now i have to see what patterns it can make by skipping and whatever.

For me, holding the cord in the same hand was the "a-ha" tip that helped me see what I was doing wrong, and the second most helpful was the angle of holding the travel cord (this is also called the filler cord, yes?). I was struggling with this knot and now I understand why and also how to develop the good habit of one cord one hand. Can't wait to watch more of your content!

This ones always been my fav knot. I have trouble with the Josephine knot getting it not to turn so much.
I haven't done the Josephine knot many times myself, I just feel like it's a bit too complicated for the design I usually have in mind...
