    it's weird that switching accent colors doesn't change the folder colors, imo. seeing the file picker portal finally implemented as a part of the file manager is nice tho

      I believe this is something that is being worked on as well, but can't recall the source

    • @Sjoerd1993
      @Sjoerd1993 3 месяца назад

      To fix this, they'd had to ship a seperate icon theme for each different accent colour, which is a bit too hacky for GNOME's liking. However, they're working on making the icon theme in Nautilus to be programatically drawn, which means they'll be able to implement this in a future release. Most definitely will be like in this video however for GNOME 47.

    Holy crud. Talk about backward advantage. As far as I know one guy is practically writing the whole new Cosmic DE including a Files app and theming and accent colors from scratch and in less time than the Gnome team takes to arrange a meeting for one feature. Reworking legacy code seems to require many years and many committees.

    • @mii_beta
      @mii_beta  3 месяца назад +4

      Not one, around 4-5, but also Cosmic has many coding reshares (eg smithay, winit, iced etc), but still they do impressive work considering the team size

    • @cysoun
      @cysoun 3 месяца назад +4

      Smaller teams iterate obviously faster. GNOME has much more people involved so it takes time to synchronize all of them. I'm sure the Cosmic team takes a lot from the GNOME backend as well so it makes the job easier.

      @@naheemsays5140 We use the same techniques that Gradient uses. It is a well known issue that GTK4 does not reload its theme when it is changed.

      @@mmstick The accent colors dont reload the theme files either - other plumbing work got completed this cycle.
      System76 however might run into the issue of not being able to leverage it due to having a too old version of gtk4. You will need gtk4.16 to get the goodies of css variables and (selective) css color module support along with a few other tidbits of modern css.
      With them my understanding is you don't need to reload the stylesheet.

    I already fully customise my Gnome with the extension Open Bar. It can set everything from GTK and Libawaita colours, set to theme with switch with dark light themes, meanin you can use 2 accent colours one for bark and one for light. Completely modify panel bar menu's and buttons. set all gnomes used colours as you want and change min tweaks like the edge curves on windows transparency and blue and it switches went you switch light/dark modes. You can also change size of the top panel so it bigger but not doubled in size or messing with the front. It hour of desktop setting fun. Seriously it my most used and liked extension right now. Oh also does app screen blue and setting too. Dock you can make copy the panel setting on the colour and curves of the corners too. Warn don't use it on main user until you master what each switch and colour setting does in full as it edits the main files .css files as well but you can switch bit like that of and on. Also switch of every auto config button as they are annoying. you just get the perfect theme and you change background and it set a theme for you and often it nasty and then take time to go back. However it does make you use the Open bar setting app more till you learn how it works as no short cuts, miss one of the auto update button and you'll soon new. As next time you log in or switch backgrounds it will mess you shell up. but if you have one theme set up it can auto config a near opposite dark or light mode and pick complementary colour for your light mode in a similar colour palette like my shell goes from dark dock and forest green borders, transparent black etc to while, light grey and highlight colour bright loud green, second high light slightly darker. It a extension I hope doesn't get killed of by theme accent colour settings.
