i feel like while we (thankfully) didn't have a return of the "tribal print" we definitely did have a rise of like cowboy aesthetics and so i think you still nailed that prediction!
Love the addition of Google trends for quantitative data! I totally agree that you're ahead of the curve on androgynous fashion and moving away from cutesy bows, but I also theorize that the bows had more lasting power and longevity as a trend to the GP *because* of the election anxiety (and the outcome). I think that there is something self-soothing about dressing more childishly as an adult when feeling powerless or helpless, because you're the one making the choice to sort of regress back into the more helpless state of a child.
I’ve always heard “Underwear as outerwear” used to reference the trend of visible bra. Also maybe I’m biased coz icy blue has been my favorite color forever, but I saw it everywhere at the mall yesterday. Idk, the pastel blue trend has officially trickled down. I think that’s full credit lol
I recently found your channel and totally binged it. Thrifty fashion analytics is a niche i can get behind! And this is your first upload in my sub box
honestly this is a concern I had while working on this because I am not a data scientist, so I did my best with the data I had access to, but I would love tips for stronger data interpretation skills in the future!!
Moccasins started trending within my school! I live in the northern midwest, so it's a bit cold, and SO MANY girls (not really popular with the guys) have moccasins at my school, including me. They're SO comfy and perfect for cozy school vibes (do not take 4 APs! I might go insane) but at least i look cute in my moccasins 🗣🔥
If trend sales have gone up, a great contribution is the availability to curvy women. No longer relegated to only dark solid colors to make us look smaller, we are opting for the bold brights that match our hearts and desires! And….the key word for me is not casual but the word comfortable.
This got me noodling on how to quantify "trendy" vs "mainstream". If you're looking at google search data, maybe the percent increase is more valuable than the number of searches itself? Also how to best include seasonality? So fun so complicated
it is so complicated!! These graphics do only show percent increase rather than the number of searches, which I think makes sense to track trends, but I can't even see the actual search quantity for a lot of these things! Also thinking of seasonality is why I started including so many comparing all of 2023 to all of 2024 rather than just a year ago vs now. even when data is subjective, our interpretations are always biased!
Okay I literally was referring to my entire summer as “Lobster Girl Summer” a move which ended up kicking off a tiny lobster plush knit along in Lindsay Degen’s Knit Club, but I can’t say for sure if this was influenced BY YOU cus I def watched that video last year 😂 Anyway I went full lobster, wearing my mini plush as a bag charm, investing in a vintage gold lobster charm and having a nautical nail set with a lobster that crossed three nails in the peak of summer. On another note, I am still hanging on to bows, and def still seeing them places (Damson Madder this fall and winter is still full up on bows) but I do think I am incorporating them in with other stuff that is more androgynous for sure, so it’s more balanced and less straight girly.
You were so spot on with so many predictions! I would love to know if you have heard anything about the medieval fashion sub trend. I'm seeing it all over the place!
Not sure if it would work as a search term, but some of the stuff you’re describing (like visible bra, casual to the point of rebellion, etc) sounds to me a lot like indie sleaze
Your know what’s been a trend this year? Appropriation of queer fashion, especially lesbian style. Like no! Stop. It’s a subculture and a community not fashion inspiration 😭 (You reminded me this when you mentioned a lot of influencers have been leaning more masculine or androgynous with their style and while that’s fine, there’s also been an appropriation of specific queer symbols and style signaling with a long history like carabiners, by both cishet women and men. Obvs this doesn’t apply to anyone within the community, n matter how queer or not they look.)

Also rise of native beading to general audience (of non tribal iconography but by native artists… or knock-offs I guess )

Idk why I am so invested bc I never follow trends but I loved this video!!
hahah I think they're so interesting sociologically so I'm always interested from that perspective!
@@beepwrldoh you’re so right, anthropology wise they tell us a lot❤
Re: maritime - canned fish were super trendy this year. Sardines etc.
I know you're right, but that's an objectively hilarious statement

2:31 not you predicting brat summer and the messy party girl aesthetic
Thank you for always using diferent sizes and diverse models as examples. ❤
Yes!! I love it when people actually follow up their predictions!
I just started studying data science so I'm hyper focussing but the way you're interpreting those graphs is unholy 😭
honestly this is a concern I had while working on this because I am not a data scientist, so I did my best with the data I had access to, but I would love tips for stronger data interpretation skills in the future!!
wait how? is there a better way to interpret them?
this was SUCH a fun video to watch, thank you so much!! you were so spot on for most of them, too!
Now I’m excited to see your predictions for next year!
This was so fun and nerdy 😍

You’re so eloquent, I can listen to you talk for hours 😍
thank you so much! :')
My 60s-inspired wardrobe is waaaaaaiting for mustard yellow to make its comeback. 💛💛💛 I love yellow so much but butter is not it for me.
I love hearing your thoughts over this!
I definitely think green was the color of the year. I kept seeing a lot of sage or brat green items this year!

omg are those the earrings Laini designed!?!
yes!! full disclosure they were gifted but I cant stop wearing them hehe
What a fun video idea!
