i like how realistic todorokis unsureness is because like a few nice words from a friend aren't gonna undo like years and years of abuse all at once, deku made him forget about his father for a match but hes not gonna suddenly just be okay with using his fire
Honestly, the fact that they all seem to think he should've just changed his entire mentality from a lifetime of abuse and manipulation so so annoying
It's a trope thing that kinda thing usually instant cuz it's hard to write a slow burn change of outlook still it's really refreshing when it does happen

I love the ending of this fight, goes to prove that 5 min of pep talk from the MC doesn't fix 5+ years of trauma. Which can be a overlooked thing in shonen anime.

Todoroki won the cavalry battle
Bakugou won the 1v1 fights.
All 3 won once.
and they all won with their strengths. midoriya used off the wall tactics to win the race, todoroki used his cool head and powerful abilities to win the cavalry battle and bakugou used his immense talent for combat to win the tournament.
Horikoshi confirmed that the winner is Todoroki.

@@Yal_Rathol Tbf Todoroki gave him the win. Who knows what would happen if he clashed with Bakugo instead of putting out the flames.
But I like that Bakugo won that way cuz that makes him even more similar to Endeavor, parallels of the two are often drawn. Both won #1 place but didn't feel like they earned it.
If todoroki had used his flames during the middle of that attack, he would've lost, there's a reason he was moving in a circle
It is important to note that Bakugo's quirk is probably one of the most difficult quirks to master, train, and control. He is very creative and has extreme control over his power. Bakugo's combat scenes are the most interesting to watch, for me.
P.S: There are actually funny theories as to why Bakugo shouts a lot
1. When you scream or get hyped a lot you sweat. So Bakugo does this so he builds up a sweat.
2. Bakugo picked up a habit of screaming because his explosions are so loud he has to scream to be heard.
You could also say he got it from his mom, but then again, SHE probably has to shout 'cuz her son is always making explosions! lol
Another theory is that he has subtle brain damage. The explosions have a backlash and realistically even if his body withstands them these can have severe long term effects. Of course this is a fringe theory but such damage could lead to behavior eerily similar to how Bakugo is like.
Kinda tragic if this were true so I doubt it'd actually ever became canon.
Theory 2-b. He's so loud because his explosions have damaged his hearing. A similar theory might apply to Present Mic.

They're both emotional states that are okay in small doses at the right moments, but they have to get over them because it happens too often and too much.
They do not have to "get over them" they have to grow and overcome the reasons for those states. The states themselves have nothing wrong with them and should be allowed as much as possible. Its not the symptom you need to cure, its the illness behind it.

The thing that's really sad to me about Todoroki's backstory is that he's not avoiding his fire just because he hates his dad. He's mostly avoiding it because using it feels like a betrayal to his mother and/or like he's disappointing her. He has all this guilt over something he can't control and is a big part of who he is.
Also it potentially killed his older brother.
Bakugo's Howitzer Impact is a fuel-air explosion. He aerosolized his nitro sweat, spread it all around, and ignited it. That move is so powerful that the biggest non-nuclear explosions in the world use the same technique.

The attack that Bakugo used does not work that way. The only thing he did was add rotation to his strongest explosion. They explained it in the same chapter.

the only air thing related is that if i'm not mistaken the rotation sucks up the oxygen, so even if todoroki used his flames they wouldn't work cause there wouldnt be oxygen to them to manifest, but then again i dont have 100% proof of that
I like that todoroki didnt just get over that hurdle in one episode. Its a process. Hes suffered a full childhood of.emotional and physical abuse, one pep talk from deku shouldnt just immediately fix that. He has to think about stuff now and whats right or wrong. Also even if he used the flame its not a guarantee that he would.of won. Bakugo in terms of raw combat skill is miles ahead of everyone in class 1 A currently so no one knows.
Agree except the last part. He was going to be the winner but the autor decided to make him lose because of what you already said. He also confirms that todoroki is stronger than bakugo, and he wouldve won if both of them fight at 100%.

Todoroki wasn't a complete sure win even if he used his fire. That last move from Bakugo was meant to act as a vacuum to put out his flames
If Todoroki had been using his fire, he could've done significant damage when he grabbed Bakugo's arm.

one of the most unrealistic things in shonen anime is how easily characters get over the most traumatic shit in like 10 minutes and I was surprisingly happy with how they didn’t do that with Todoroki

Bakugo may still have won if Todoroki uses his fire. Just a fan theory, but that last attack Bakugo not only boosted his explosion but create what look like a wind funnel/ airless vaccum that could nullify or weaken Todoroki flame attack.

I loved the motif with Todoroki's mother's eyes , they're always these crazy eyes that he remembered her by in the flashbacks, but when he goes to see her, she turns around (same angle as she does in the flashback) but now we see her eyes normally; brilliant visual storytelling.

bakugou is a very smart guy, he provoked todoroki a lot bcoz he had a plan for when todoroki wud use his flames, so either way bakugou should have won the moment todoroki hesitates to use his flames in my opinion.

@@appledough3843 define your 2 episodes consisting of your 'arc'. Because for me it started from the 11th when Tensei was hurt and ended on 18th episode. And the bnha wiki defines the arc as between episodes 13-20. The manga arc consists of 15 chapters that they had to compress into a few episodes. So please, convince me that the Stain arc is actually only '2' episodes. Because just the fight-heavy episodes 16/17 is just a portion of the actual story and if anime/manga arcs only consist of such 'episodes' then I might as well not bother watching or reading this or any anime/manga that has such a structure as I find it incredibly boring.

If you read a fiction book, or recall the Resident Evil 7 plot or whatever game you played that has actual story in it and you can find those elements in it. Even comic books have them. This is something that is taught in Literature class but it seems you have either forgotten, slept through it or did not even bother to attend.

those colossal zero-point robots that made everyone else completely run away were completely overwhelmed by todoroki, THREE of them, that was just a shit ton of ice.
just after he use an ice attack to freeze most of the competition, and he continued using more ice to get through the entire obstacle race, and it still looked like he could continue to use more ice.
not only that, but from the first test by all might when they had to be groups pretending to be either villains or heroes either protecting or deactivating a bomb, todoroki froze the entire building and everyone watching was freezing even just being nearby, not even being directly attacked.
bakugo being directly attacked by todorokis ice should've made his own quirk borderline useless because he should be freezing and unable to sweat.
theres just absolutely zero way based what we saw of todoroki and bakugo in season one that bakugo should even be a slight challenge for todoroki.

first of all, the amount of ice in the area ABSOLUTELY matters. in season 1 they showed his ice making people cold when they weren't even near his ice. they had to completely nerf, or actually completely ignore this aspect to give bakugo a chance. it does not matter in the slightest that bakugo moving around makes him sweat more, we've seen what happens when todoroki puts that much ice out, and its SUPPOSED to make everyone in the area freeze. it even made ALL-MIGHT HIMSELF shiver and he has resistances to shit like that. it even completely froze noumu who was nearly on par with allmight to the point noumu had to break off his body parts to break out, yet somehow people like bakugo can resist that shit? fuck out of here with that shit
furthermore, todoroki has shown on more than one occasion to be an exception close range combatant. he literally talks about EXACTLY THIS in his fight against lida. he got lida, who is MUCH faster than bakugo on his engines with an ice attack without lida even noticing, AND while moving far faster than bakugo is capable of. bakugo should've been frozen solid by the exact same shit without effort, but again, they had to nerf todoroki to match them up.
and lastly, yes, todoroki had a limit to how much ice he can use without using his fire. here's the problem with that - we've already seen him use a SHIT TON more ice without issue than he was using vs bakugo, which again shows, they had to completely downplay todoroki to make bakugo a threat.

@@pierceromeyn8433 Not really, Bakugo would feel the heat, especially since Todo wanted to go full blast. He'd burn to a crisp before he could even land the attack. Even if he somehow landed the attack, with the fire only adding to the explosion, Bakugo would've been propelled out of the arena smack dab into the stands, so it'd be a draw.

He also was making a sort of tornado as a vacuum to funnel the oxygen away from the flames to extinguish them. Even if he was being blown away he has shown that he can maneuver well in the air and stay in the arena.

what I love about this show is the character development. One doesn’t get over years of abuse just by one pep talk by the protagonist. It tries to depict development as real as it gets. Character and character development is top tier and other shows should take notes.

My Hero will MAKE you feel. Its so well written and the characters are so likeable that you can't help but want the best for them. And how about that moment of weakness from Bakugo? Did hear how hurt he was that Todoroki wouldn't use his fire?

In the author's opinion Bakugo and Todoroki at 100% would've lead to Shoto winning for sure. I am not the one to argue against canonical statement but I feel it isn't as simple. Bakugo at this stage is by far the most skilled user of his quirk and while Todoroki beats him in pure control and overall versatility this fight demonstrated what a bad chemistry he has against Bakugo's fighting style. This gets further exemplified in other scenes where Todoroki meets experienced fighters and loses to that. Bakugo is at a severe disadvantage when it comes to power but he could balance that out with sheer combat wits and creative applications of his quirk. At this stage all Todoroki does is just apply ice or fire to surfaces so while useful that's not comparable of Bakugo basically doing anything that is remotely related to explosions.

After this fight i stopped hating bakugo, thats his way of expressing his feelings, he wants to be the best, thats his goal so he is focused on winning and fighting against the best to test his own limits and powers he doesent want to take shortcuts, he is a true talent

Each year there's a UA sports festival, unless there's no time skip we can assume that there will be an eventual sports festival with characters in their 2nd year of high school. Which would bring the logical rematch between Shoto and Izuku
Unfortunately current Todoroki wouldnt be able to really challenge current Deku or Bakugou.
When it comes to actual skill bokugou is by far the best. His quirk isnt as good as deku or shoto but he still keeps up and even bests them

I would definitely say he's more skilled. Not by a huge margin but it's there. Deku and Todoroki outclass him in terms of power by far! Bakugou keeps up by making full use of his quirk at every angle.

An explosion has a force, a shockwave that it makes. It's more destructive. That's how Bakugo moves around. Todoroki's is just a blast of fire. Not as effective for moving around like Bakugos. And todoroki's is naturally long range while Bakugo's is close to mid range.

So, fun trivia. When he originally plotted out how things would go, the Manga writer had intended for Todoroki to use his fire and win the fight. But when it came time to actually make write/draw the issue he realized how unrealistic it was for Todoroki to fully get over years of mental issues after one pep talk, so changed things so he stood down and Bokugo won.

Everyone here talking about Bakugou being stronger or Todoroki winning but do you realize that Todoroki just differentiated himself from Endeavor by giving up the number 1 position for the person he cares about? It is such an awesome parallel. Notice the last flashback for Todoroki is his mom’s face. In subs he tells All Might that he didn’t want to be the only one to break away from the past. He also says Saving his Mom is his start line. Not being number 1 like Bakugou or learning to save. And that is honestly respect.
People can be sad about Todoroki loosing etc but honestly as a Todoroki fan this was one of his greatest moments writing wise which separates him from most other characters. And Rana man don’t be sad. Todoroki’s arc is about healing himself, finding his own goal, a personal journey despite how op he is. The narrative does not focus on his skills but more on his emotional complexity. And that is what makes him THE BEST character of MHA
I'd say the other two have as much emotional complexity as todoroki though,they don't focus on the skills? no everyone gets a focus on their skill as well as their developments as characters
Dark Genesis Nah. Midoriya is more on the positivity side. He thinks well of EVERYONE even his bully has a perfect hero goal. His will to save. Bakugou too has a perfect hero goal, he is known as the symbol of victory and most of his characterization comes from yeh he is a dick but wow he is smart, which is pointed out again and again. His character development involves saving to become a better hero because he wants to be number 1 and better team work. Bakugou’s past is well characterized but his development and goals are very straightforward. As is the DekuBaku rivalry which ignores the more interesting aspects of the past to create an unrealistic one sided admiration and winning/ saving as the basis of a rivalry.
Todoroki is calm and composed but can be super stubborn, he is very unlike his dad as this episodes showed but also his uncaring attitude and focus on his hate is so much like his dad that there are subtle parallels strewn throughout. In short he has a very well known duality that Deku and Bakugou lack.He is one of the few characters who has failed to get over something emotionally, not just here but as far as season 3 where he realizes pushing down his feelings of hate is not the way. His dynamic with his dad feels so damn real. There are sentences as far as this season which shows that Todoroki wanted his dad to care and the fact that he this complicated relationship where he can’t hate completely because they are so alike but the resentment is there. This dynamic is much better than Bakugou/ Deku past bullying where Deku just admired Bakugou and the past hurt never comes up except the whole thing turned into helping Bakugou come to terms with Deku.
Also his hero goal we don’t know anything about it. It isn’t a standard, win and save but something he needs to slowly figure combining both the inspiration from All Might he had forgotten and the new inspiration he is slowly getting from his father. This makes him more complicated than Midoriya and Bakugou who have their hero ideal of someone who wins and someone who saves. Currently Todoroki is the most flawed hero of the 3. And it has been highlighted by the narrative.
Bakugo: "Angry puppy" accurate lol. Deku, Iida, Todoroki, Ochaco, Bakugo, all have their own journey's and getting individual development. I love Todoroki's ending and the still-painting, no matter how many times I've seen it, it's still so heavy and emotional.
Re-watching this, notice it took a minute and how hesitant Shoto's mother was about looking at his face (one of the reasons being he has Endeavor's eye, which brings her back to the trauma she went through). The first shot she stares at him below the neck, then it slowly pans up to his face - she recognizes _her son_ as a young man (and how much he's grown since she last she seen him) and that young boy she loves. I love Todoroki's mom. They're both healing each other in the process.

DINGDINGDING! MICKEY IS THE WINNER! Mickey nailed the reason why Todoroki didn't use his fire again. If you do it once then you can do it every time is typical in stories, but not in real life. You can't climb over psychological issues in one go, most of the time and that's exactly what happened here. Horikoshi is such a fucking good writer. Bless that man every damn time you watch or read Hero Aca!

And by doing so get certified with the government. They are glorified cops, and are only called heroes because of how it started, they could literally be called anything and it wouldn't change their mandates.
Stain is wrong because he sees it as an ideal, it not, its a job. It's not a hobby like in Marvel and DC, they aren't chasing an ideal of justice or what is 'right'. They get up in the morning, some government official points them in one direction and of they go because it's not up to them to decide who is wrong and who is right, who is good and who is evil. It just who is doing something that the laws of the country says shouldn't be done and that's it. Nothing more, what do I care if a cop is an asshole as long as he stops the one who is trying to steal from me or assault me.
People get into hero work, maybe because of the money, fame, acknowledgment, some had a great quirk and didn't know what else to do, and some because they want to do good and all of that is absolutely fine. The best description would be and actor/sports star combined with a cop.
But at the end of the day it's a job, nothing more.

Just to inform you guys bakugo would have won anyway no matter if todoroki use fire or not. Bakugo becomes more powerfull due to his sweat that's where the heat comes from. If todoroki would have used fire on bakugo he would have sweat more and the explosion would be much stronger and stronger.

Rana looked like she wanted to cry when todoroki was visiting his mom and everyone else who doesn't care as much about that character was just having a conversation that didn't need to happen. Same thing with marketa when lida visited his brother. There is a time and a place to talk and those two moments were clearly not it.

in future, once all three of them have fully mastered their quirk, the strongest probably is deku > todoroki > bakugou (this is based on quirk)
but right now, bakugou is the strongest followed by todoroki and then deku. why?
1. deku can not use his full power right now, so he probably will lose to most people in the tournament bracket. so that's why he's the weakest among the three of them.
2. todoroki also cannot use his full power ( only ice, not the fire) due to his trauma. with the ice he is still strong but bakugou has a lot under his sleeve and bakugou was able to destroy todoroki ice.
if people says todoroki will win if he use his full power, then what if deku go 100% smash at point blank. He will also probably win.
So, as of now unfortunately bakugou is the strongest. also this is just my two cent regarding their strength, quirk wise.
