We headed up to Holcomb Valley Campground today via Polique Canyon Rd and it was pretty tame except for the last mile into the campground. There was some deep mud puddles and the snowpack is deep in the campground area so have a winch or bring a friend with a tow strap. Air down in this section. Awesome drive up and out though, just stay on the traveled trails! Awesome video all!
Oh man, I love winter camping. Probably because I live in AZ or maybe it is because very few people will actually go camping in the winter so the camp areas are empty.
We're from Cali and it seems like all the good spots r taken even during the snowstorm we had last winter. When the mountains are white all the overlanders come out haha
@@HappyRockOffroadlol I wish you would saw me take my 22 Tesla M3 dual motor out the sand dunes hahha. Headed to holcomb in 2 days for the blizzard !!! Bring it on !
Coming off trail off the 38 on Saturday night was just gridlock, people sliding and trying to put on chains at the same time. Glad the damage wasn’t to extensive.
Yeah I'm kicking myself because we never really go out to the mountains on the weekends, we usually try and avoid the crowds. Thanks! most importantly no one was hurt
I used to tent camp in the snow up there. Light a huge camp fire, listen to music, and stay out until it got to cold then bury myself in the sleeping bag and sleep soundly. Most of the time had the entire campground to myself when snow camping. What traction controls did you use when driving in the snow/mud?
I bet you didn't see any Honda civics or teslas either but now i see them everywhere, even up the snow trails In regards to traction, I used snow/sand mode which added quite a bit of wheel spin, the chains made all the difference, we came across a fully built bronco and gladiator, no chains and they were slipping everywhere
@@HappyRockOffroad when I was camping up there Tesla wasn’t even thought of yet. I drove my Dad’s old Blazer. We used to camp on the backside of Big Bear facing Johnston Valley by an old mine. We set our tent up inside the mine shack to keep the wind off of us, then we used the scrap tin laying around to construct a fireplace. We dug out the side of a hill, lined it with rocks, the tin to radiate heat back at us. Good times back in the days of cassette tapes.
I have a question, when u have been driving ur truck in the snow and its covered with ice and snow ❄️ when u go in reverse dose ur camera saying anything blocking it. Cuz on mine the hole truck lights up in red saying that there something blocking it. And i cleaned all the cameras but dont know when it is. So i was hoping u might know
Hi, I wish I was that handy but I purchased it from Amazon, here's the link: Ignik FireCan Portable Propane Fire Pit with Hose and Adjustable Regulator a.co/d/0MdCB8H
What road did you take into Holcomb Valley? I've only been in the summer, so I'm not sure what roads are open in the winter. I take Van Dusen, which turns into 3N09. Great video, you've inspired me to head up and do some winter camping!! Thanks!
Hey michael we took the rim of the world rd 3N12 to 3N16. And then on the way home we took 2N09 to Polique rd. Van Dusen was actually closed the day we went up, yea have fun up there man but avoid the crowds!
Hi Terry yes they staid on, they performed great. Here are the chains Peerless 0232605 Auto-Trac Light... www.amazon.com/dp/B003TDIL5G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
what chains did you use? I didnt think you could use chains on a tremor, was wondering as I have a tremor too. Did you have a problems with the chains? sorry about the damage.
Hey Rob we didn't have any issues w the chains they were very helpful, normally I would just put the chains on the rears but as it sits I do have low intrusion crash bars, 1" level on the front and 1" wheel spacers so I am a little more comfortable adding some to the front wheels. Thanks were just happy it wasnt worse! Here are the chains: Peerless 0232605 Auto-Trac Light Truck/SUV Tire Traction Chain - Set of 2 a.co/d/ctp9i7W
People with a 2wd Honda should stay home, don't ruin the trip for other people.. Also use chains on the road, you don't need them as much on an offroad trail. Anyways, cool video 👍

Props to your wife for the action shots.
thanks michael!! we appreciate it, sometimes its not so easy to get out of the truck on an incline in the middle of a blizzard ha ha

thanks for great video. very nice rig and my favorite camp ground
Glad you enjoyed+ thank you!
Good truck, good vehicle. Not sure my rig can do that.
The Honda probably came up Van Dusen Canyon road. I always get a good chuckle when I see them or Toyota Prius handling business in Holcomb.
Haha same, I'm amazed where I find civics, minivans and teslas nowadays. But hey, more power to them just hope they find a good signal when SHTF

I know that civic HATED the drive back lol
He was probably rethinking his life choices at some point 😆
Next time air down to 10psi for better traction
Thanks for sharing, nice video

Hey I've never had that happen. Could be the backup sensors, maybe try unplugging the battery for 5 minutes to see if it'll reset it?
The drive of shame - being towed out by a truck in a Honda !!!
Looks like you have an ammo can stove/ fire pit. Did u buy it somewhere or was it a DIY project

Thanks for the reply! Very helpful!
How did you attach the trasharoo style bag? Love the rig btw.
Hey the same straps that would hang onto a spare tire, fit the same under the tailgate. Same concept as a tailgate bike rack. And Thanks!
What tire chains are you using and did they stay on the whole time?

We didn't see him otw out, we were even looking for a bumper or a fender shroud, I think they made it 🙏

You won’t be able to sell your car after that because it hit
A civic?? How? Lol
Man I dunno, but if they had a youtube channel I'd watch haha
Did you guys have cell service there?
We had cell signal but no data
I had 2 bars on Verizon and was able to make calls today. 1/28.
Next time just do a voice over instead of paragraphs, too muchto read, thnx
That's an excellent tip, thank you I'll try that from now on
