    Oh wow, PassCode time. Thanks for checking them out, the girls are wild.
    Believe it or not, Taking you out is far from being their most progressive songs, they have plenty of mash-ups that are even more crazy. Check out Dive into the Light or Seize Approaching Brand New Era next. And your BMTH remark was pretty funny, as they actually did a cover on Mantra, it's on their official channel. It's pretty fun too.

      They ARE wild! I like it a lot haha!
      Honestly, from that initial impression I already know that there's gonna be some stuff that I'm like "Whaaaaaat..?!" but in the BEST way lol! They seem to want to play around with stuff and mash a lot of different little styles up and I LOVE that.
      Oh weird lol!! Well, I guess I have a slightly better ear than I realised lol! Might have to go check that cover out tbf :) Thank you, Sergey :) Have a great day, bro :)

    The transitions of PassCode are sooo good. It’s like 5 songs in a huge mixer and you have one song. It should not work but it does, I don’t know why but it works.

    This track/MV is always great for first time reactions. It hits hard in the first few seconds and takes you on a roller coaster ride. The good new is the album this track is from is available via London-based JPU Records, so when you inevitably need to buy a physical copy, it'll be a lot less pain on your wallet. (JPU specialise in Japanese artists and have an excellent catalogue, including BAND-MAID and LOVEBITES.)
    PassCode are an alternative idol group, a term that might not make much sense to you at the moment. They took one of the things that BABYMETAL do well, fusing metal and J-Pop, and doubled-down on the electronica / metal crossover. The mixture of harsh vocals and cleans with the vocoder effect is their signature sound. Not having the musicians and songwriters centre stage and fronting the project with a group of young women who sing and dance is an idol thing. You'll find the format mainly in pop, where there's pressure on the women to have a perfect image. A lot of music snobs have a hard time with the idol set-up...
    In 2010 things changed. Singer Pour Lui decided to give up her solo career and form an idol group on her own terms. She took the singing and dancing template and dumped it in a bucket of punk attitude. BiS (Brand-new idol Society) was born, controversy ensued and the floodgates opened for a whole new era of less than perfect idols, who explored darker pop, punk, metal, prog, trance and a whole range of extreme niche genres. I'd highly recommend digging around in the alt-idol scene - you might not like it all, but it is always entertaining. If you want to jump in the deep end, maybe try Are You Ready? by BiS. I can assure you you aren't ready, so feel free to explore PassCode's greatness, maybe move on to Broken By the Scream, but eventually you'll need to look back at alt-idol's origins and the mad, mad world of the WACK company. Enjoy the trip! :o)

      Very good your comment 👍
      It's hard to explain Alt-Idol to people the first time around.
      I think your explanation was very understandable and friendly.

    • @Chief322
      @Chief322  3 года назад +1

      I agree with Takeshi! What a great comment. You're absolutely right, I've seen a few things that people have said that (hopefully understandably) I don't understand but I am absolutely willing and excited to learn and discover more.
      I'm gonna copy and paste this into my doc for reference. Thank you so much, honestly :) I've seen you pop up quite a bit lately and I appreciate it a lot, my friend. I think it's definitely close to B.B.T.S time for me, especially with a few of these comments. They've been working their way up the list slowly for a little while anyway so it might be time..
      Either way, THANK you! I hope you're having an amazing Monday :)

    • @ClawCarver
      @ClawCarver 3 года назад +1

      Yes to everything FourBleats said. You can buy PassCode's album Clarity direct from JPU Records or (as I did) from HMV. You won't regret it.
      As for the alternative / underground idol scene, beware! That's a deep hole into a huge, diverse and highly creative scene, containing almost every genre and combination of genres you can think of and a few more you never imagined existed. FourBleats suggested Are You Ready? by BiS. I concur. It's a great showcase for the alternative idol scene. It's almost 12 minutes long, spans half a dozen genres, and is ostensibly a tribute to Freddie Mercury. When the video first dropped I watched it every day for several months. It's a wild ride.
      Otherwise, yes, more PassCode (I recommend One Step Beyond, Club Kids Never Die, and their cover of Mantra by Bring Me The Horizon) and definitely check out Broken By The Scream at your earliest opportunity. A few of these groups are well-known and successful in Japan, but most are underground projects, operating on shoestring budgets, and their creativity, energy and effort deserve to be more widely known and appreciated.
      Cheers!

    G'day Chief. Passcode are on my playlist - more for creative style than instrumentation. They are pretty heavy on the distortion, even live. Great to see you taken aback for a bit and enjoying it. You're starting to cross into idol-metal fusion territory here, where I also like the group 'Wagamama Rakia' with songs like 'Survive'.

    PassCode threw me into Japanese female driven rock few years ago - and still digging deeper. PassCode's still one of my favorites. Fantastic guitar riffs can be heard in "Bite The Bullet". Their lighter songs "Atlas" and "Anything New" are great too. PassCode is live group and "Trace" live version have been suggested here and definitely worth checking. "Taking You Out" was composed for promotion of Asphalt 9 racing game, hence game's so prominent. Great reaction!

      @@kurekurekurekure5938 started with Babymetal 6 years ago, then found Band Maid. I went to Japan to see Band Maid play and one of the gigs was their vs Passcode in Osaka in Sept 2019, so I started to watch Passcode to see what they were like and was blown away. They are not Band Maid but I loved how they mix different music styles into their performance so from there I stared checking out other acts that have come from the Idol scene.
      I’m loving the wide variety in Idol and can enjoy everyone from the hard metal/punk rooted acts to the pure pop acts like Cyber, The World Standard, Beyooooonds, etc.
