I'm sure a lot of the things they do though are very creative in nature to keep the old American cars running. The old American cars are actually things that tourists actually pay to ride in. No one wants to pay to ride in an old Soviet Lada. Other than the basics, where are you going to find parts for a 1957 Chrysler Windsor? I'm sure when an engine fails they put an engine in transmission out of something else to keep it running. Maybe even out of an old Lada.
"The U.S. embargo prevents the country from importing most parts and tools." Not an entirely accurate statement, at all. Cuba trades with many, many countries. When an average Cuban only makes 15 to 20 euros a month. This makes it impossible for them to buy parts and tools. If they had more economic resources, then they could buy many of the things they need. Everyone always talks about the US embargo. What about the internal embargo the Cuban people face on a daily basis imposed by their own government? Cubans are not free to import anything, even if they have money. The government restricts all imports. No matter where they come from... You need to better educate yourself on the plight of the average Cuban on the island...
