Oh Thank you. This tour was my first concert, and first of two times seeing them. This was Malcolm's song to us fans. Those cannons blew not just my mind, as they are loud asf, but being at the top of the coliseum, the wind from them was literally blowing our hair out of our faces. Diehard fan from that moment since. To this day its like I can feel the wind when I listen to this song.
yeah cannons are loud ha ha
Malcolm Young one of the greatest rhythm guitarist of all time!! RIP
Went to this tour...when them cannons blasted, get back. Loud, loud, loud. One of my favorite concerts ever. I went alone and was not disappointed. To many people around to have a party!!!!
Should check out the live version from River Plate with cannons ! Even if you just watch it by yourselves with no reaction vid.
Yes please!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!!! 😎🍸
Yes, they are amazing live!
Yes! But I prefer the live version at Plaza de las Toros
No, donnington. They are slower and the intensity isn't there. Everyone says river plate because of the crowd...
10000000%
Went to this tour in 1982 - the cannons at the end were deafening!
How timeless is AC/DC when someone can hear this track and think it was just released?!
that is pretty funny for those of us who first heard this song about 40 years ago but certainly does speak to the bands longevity and how amazing their sound has kept for close to 50 years. Appreciate younger people taking notice and realizing greatness
Right? I still have the 8-track. lol
After falling in love with back and black and their older tunes I got this album and this song to me was like Thunderstruck is to most of the new guys...just over the top!
This is the best concert song. I think they end every concert with it. There's no cooler experience than seeing the cannons go off in concert.
I saw them twice in concert , once in front row and ears were ringing for days. They had cannons blasting loud at the with this song
The best is what it stands for
The live version of this song is a must see
Great reaction. Good call on the “School of Rock”, Jack Black connection as Jack is dressed as AC/DC guitarist, Angus Young at the end and the song they close out the movie with is AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way to the Top, if You Want to Rock and Roll”. Originally released in 1976 with Bon Scott on vocals. I first saw AC/DC in Toronto in 1983. This is almost always their final song of the show and back then, the cannons were so loud that they shook the arena and the night before in Buffalo, they apparently shook neighbouring houses, lol.
The album was released in 1981 so I don’ think you need to worry about it being a goodbye album 😂😂
I guess us old folks caught that?!?!
This track is just perfect for live performances.
Got to see them in concert and this song with the cannons firing was a sight to Behold!!
So happy I have seen them many times. The 1st time was with Bon Scott. I feel blessed. They would end their shows with this song back in the day.
In concert live they got cannons that go off in each one of those explosions, it’s incredible
Great song. Always love me some AC/DC. 🔥
FTATR is far from being a farewell album, because it was released in 1981. LOL 😆 Here we are 41 years later and they're still putting out great albums, i.e. POWER UP, 2020. And if you want more jam out of the FTATR album, listen to the song "C.O.D." it'll rock your socks off!! 🤘🎸🤘
COD is frikkin' wicked. this whole album is off the charts. easily my fav with johnson.
They got the idea for this from what the Roman gladiators were told - for those about to die we salute you! Great job again 👏
Gladiators in general, not only Roman.....'cause they came from all over the then known world !
I saw them live in 1986 and when they did this song with the black powder cannons you could actually feel the concussion blast hit your chest when the cannons fired as well as the dust that was coming down from the ceiling that they were shaking loose. It was truly an experience where you experienced this song with more than just your ears as a live performance.
This song always has real cannons firing off. I saw them on the first tour of this album in 1981, and the cannons were really loud and impactful in indoor arenas.
oh those cannons! i have been to plenty of acdc concerts, ima gonna say six times starting with fly on the wall tour which i attended in wurzburg germany in 1986 and later that same year perhaps the next but same tour in dallas texas. been to every tour since. for those about to rock is ALLWAYS the closing number. if they have not done it, and it is live, DO NOT leave. i have seen hoards of folks leave prior at every show. please, to avoid future regret, do not leave until the end of for those about to rock. even if the lights come on.... wait for it.
My number 2 album of AcDc, vinyl after Back in Black, still got em all 😎🤗❤️🇧🇻
Seen them on the for those about to rock tour, 21 cannon solute .
Unfreakinbelieveable.
BOOM BOOM BOOM
💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥
🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
Couldn't hear for Three days.
Dang those were the days.
On tour, they actually had several cannon that would be used during the song in performance. The roar was soooo freakin LOUD.
NoBody does and intro like AC/DC, 100% recognizable, unique, and often imitated.
My favorite ACDC song, might be my favorite song in general
this song is 40 years old and is the last song played at every ac/dc concert as the band salutes their fans
Saw them on this tour in ‘81 at Hollywood Sportatorium in South Florida…epic! Camped out at Peach’s Record store to get tickets the morning they went on sale
yeah, do the live version! one of ac/dc's (not so) hidden gems. the GOATS of rock!
Funny you bring up School of Rock because he actually quotes the first line of this song in the movie before they go on stage at the end.
Actually saw them on this tour (early 80’s) they had cannons on stage and the whole bit, awesome!
In concert the explosion was from two large air cannons on stage ,deafing and cool at same time
This came out when I was in Junior High School back in the early 80s. Theres been many more released since then and they just released a new cd this year.
lol farewell album. no, it came out in the 80s!
Yes,…check out the live version. You’ll love it.
I can tell you love music. Your smile comes from your soul. You are the man.
Years ago we made a drinking game with this song. Put the word chug in place of rock. Of and of course take a drink after ever chug. For those about to Chug. Drink 🎶
You need to see it live at concert with all the cannons on stage that fire off it"s the best ending song to their show.
Jack Black even quotes this song in School Of Rock. He says "We roll tonight, to the guitar bite"
It wasn’t a farewell album but it was the farewell song at every concert of theirs over the past 40 years.
They have those cannons onstage at every show. I've seen them 5 times and they are by far the loudest rock band ever.
The cannons ..fire
Saw them in 1986, my ears are still ringing lol
I saw them do that song live and the explosions were so loud
This whole album is good . Although I never see anyone react to another album called " Flick Of The Switch ". That album is a great album , a must listen and very underrated .
AC/DC are Rock n Roll royalty 👍👍. I agree what few times I've heard Jack he was pretty damn good.
You need to watch their concert at River Plate in Argentina when they had actually cannons shoot off during this song!!! It is amazing!!
sitting side stage , in the 80's , Detroit ... too Close TO THE BOMBS ..... EARS RANG FOR 2 DAYS!
As a drummer Wilburn has to appreciate the steadfast simplicity of this drumming, so in the pocket with just a touch of embellishment but rock-solid meter, because that tempo in rock is roll music can be tough to keep without rushing
The live version with all the pyrotechnics is just insane
Hanging it up in 1981??
40 years later and they’re still hanging it up!
Album is around 40 years old so it definitely was not a swan song 😂😂❤️🏴
My absolute favorite Brian Johnson Era AC/DC song
FIRE!!!!!!!
I luv watching you guys react together. Rock on guys!!¡ these Blokes rock!!
Blokes...
@@michaelakkerman407 thank you 😊
@@michaelakkerman407 It's a British term for a dude.
@@uofm4life735 I'm aware. He spelled it wrong. He fixed it. All is well.
@@michaelakkerman407 Good deal. I was not trying to be a smart a$$ 😉
Dude! This is an old AC/DC album.
Great reaction, but don't miss the video. The have the gun or cannon, whatever it is, on stage.
Mad respect for the reactions to the studio versions before the live versions. Just like I had to in 1982/83. And then find a live version on audio bootleg yet alone the video. Gotta feel it first 😉
The song has two points of inspiration. When touring England during the 70's, Malcolm Young saw an old Howitzer Canon in a farmers paddock. He made a point to remember it. Then, before or during making the album this song comes from, Malcolm was reading a book about the Gladiators called, For those about to die, we salute you. Then he remembered the Howitzer, he got an idea for some lyrics that Brian worked on, while putting it together with a riff he was working on that he thought would pair up well with the lyrics. And there you go, one of the greatest anthems by the band that writes the greatest anthems in Rock & Roll was written! By the way, the canons they use for live performances, they are the real deal. They actually could fire live rounds!
Malcolm was always trying to come up with something new. Angus once said that Malcolm was trying to figure out a way to shoot Angus out of a canon.
@@johnrosier1686 and he probably would've done it too, if he could get away with it!
The River Plate Live version is a must watch. Real Cannons!! From the same concert, the videos of "Whole Lotta Rosie" (they serious), and "Hells Bells" (a real 1 ton bronze bell they'd had Cast). They are looking a "little worse for wear" by Dec 2009. 1973/2009, 36(hard)years.
Couldn't agree more, Rosie yes
Couldn't agree more, Rosie yes
You have got to try "Big Balls" and "Dirty Deeds," sung by the original singer. So very AC/DC.
Saw this tour 1982 Seattle. Angus never stopped running, and the cannons were quite loud, as was the band. Bloody loud, but great.
Kingdome? Seattle Center Coliseum?
@@markusantonio4866 Seattle Center!
I believe AC/DC just became high on my must see list.
This album was given to me 1 year as a Christmas gift
Watch this live. Period.
This is how they end every show so you know they make the most of it
They came up with the name of the band off of a sewing machine that said AC/DC
Pat Travers' Band - "Snortin' Whiskey".
When they play this in concert they bring out the cannons and fire them off. AC/DC is definitely a band you have to see live. They put on a great show.
some is sleeping thru this one!!!
Dee
Answering your question: How band gotten their name? In the beginning of the band, Malcolm and Angus' sister had sewing machine's power adapter has AC/DC. Malcolm and Angus noticed it. They wanted a name with high energy. Name fits for the band.
AC/DC stands for alternating current and direct current.
And also those ladies and gentlemen that enjoy both sexes! LOL
You would have loved this live watching Angus and his energy. The crowd was jumping in unison. Wild!
I saw them on the Back in Black tour and they brought ALL their props!💯 They hit the "Hells Bells" with a sledgehammer, they had the "Whole Lotts Rosie" blow up doll, and they did "For Those About to Rock" for their encore with the cannons....not sound effects, the real cannons! You felt the BOOM! in your chest and every time they shot the cannons a giant smoke ring came out! It was unreal! Especially on the LSD we took!🤯🤣💯❤️✌️
Must have been real good LSD, the cannon's obviously weren't there on the 'Back in Black' tour and they didn't have the blow up 'Rosie' till a few years later.
@@snowblindoz I saw them in '85, "Whole Lotta Rosie" came out in '77!💯 Also there was a big box on each side of the stage and when they played "For Those About to Rock" the boxes opened up and yeah, cannons! And yes, it was good acid!🤯🤪 I was 21 when AC/DC released their first album, you probably weren't even born then!😂 So get back to your parent's basement and don't try to tell this old hippie about what I saw in MY life!😡 Damned ignorant Gen Z/Millennial bitches!🤗❤️✌️
Not a farewell album as it was done in 81. Saw them in Germany in 82 for this tour and they were great!
I saw them for the first time about 12 years ago and then again 4 or 5 years ago. They played this song to START the concert which set the tone. The energy is off the charts during the WHOLE CONCERT. BEST CONCERTS that I've EVER been to, and I've seen MANY concerts over the last 30 years.
I saw their Blow Up Your Video tour in 1988 or 87 - they started out with Heatseeker! It was mayhem all around us when the music kicked in cuz everyone was wasted ( not us tho lol)!
My favorite AC/DC track.
You gotta see it LIVE AT RIVER PLATE.
They have the cannons and the crowd is insane!
"21 Gun Salute" !! We salute You...
This was the album that came out in the early 80s. Right after BACK IN BLACK then WHO MADE WHO. They were still in their prime only 10 years strong at this point (Brian Johnson's 3rd year.)
How do you follow up a tour that includes a 12,000 lb brass bell? With a 21 gun salute of course. They had I think 7 massive cannons on stage for this tour. It was SICK.
this song has ended every acdc show since it was Released, its probably the best Set ending song ever made
I’ve seen them countless times. Always last song. CANNONS!!!
This is the part of the show that they fire the cannon which shoots giant smoke rings across the arena.
Great band and great song. You know you have something when a band can basically do the same few song structures over and over again and it still rocks. Not many bands can be so great while be so much the same. This is not a cut down really. It is a great thing that their songs are still so awesome. I do like other bands like Rush and Led Zeppelin that grew and evolved over time better. But it is nice to hear a good old AC/DC song every now and then.
A simple web search will tell you that this song came out in 1981 LOL
FYI - this is always the last song of their concert. There are actual cannons on stage. No joke. Check out the live version.
Also; this came out in 1981. It's not their farewell.
Heck yep🎸🎸
Civil war breaks out let this be blasting in the background
I went to this concert!
He says 21 guns salute and if you count the explosions it's 21 , also in concert they have cannons on stage explode
Jack Black is actually trying to emulate Brian's growl, not his voice entirely but definitely his Geordie growl... But Brians voice is that all the time... Like when Brian Johnson speaks he sounds like what I imagine a 1670s Privateer (pirate) with a thick Geordie accent would've sounded like...
This album came out in 1981…..
When Back in Black came and had this success and made such an impact I was curious about how they could follow up such a tremendous success. And then in 1981 For those about to rock released as their next album... And it was even better! Yes, of course it didn't sell like Back in Black but it was even more powerful and mature. For me this is AC/DC's best song and they have a lot of great songs.
AC DC
Inject The Venom
C.O.D.
Donington Castle is their Best Concert, get yourself the DVD, Angus go's hard.
Dude!
This album came out in 1981!
...the album after Back In Black!
...in a LOT of ways, fans can tell you that: it WAS, after-a-fashion, a "farewell"album (unintentionally). They didn't have another successful go-'round (not at THIS level!) until "Thunderstruck" came out (I think that was, like '87 or '88 ...I don't recall, exactly 🤷🤷/
Back In Black is perfect. A perfect album.
This is, like, "one step below." It never gets the FULL credit it is, really, due. ...but this album, really, cemented them as "worldwide huge."
...the other weird thing is that: the title of the album (and of this song-obviously!), derives, in fact, from something that gladiators in the roman coliseum were forced to say (...but, here, it's "flipped," in a way).
The phrase was, in fact: "We who are about to die, salute you."
...pronounced to/at the "royalty" (and so-forth) who were in attendance,-There, to watch people murder one-another, for others', supposed, "enjoyment!" 😡😡😡😡😡
...so, NOT, actually, a phrase that is ...that one would WANT to be stating.
...now I do not have the knowledge, here, to know whether someone, in a novel or a film, perhaps, had changed/"repurposed" said (well-recognized) phrase, at some point and used its negative, belittling sourcing to counteract what was going on with the characters (leading, thereby, to something along-the-lines of: "...for those who are about to die, we salute YOU" (turning the honor in the correct direction, thereby.)-).
...or, it may have been AC/DC themselves, who re-conceptualized this, to, instead, be a statement of honor/respect to their fans, Yes., that is, quite, possible.
..anyhow: out of that, comes: "For Those About To ROCK" -"Rock" replacing "die"- "(We Salute You)".
-a much more acceptable and celebratory concept.
-It IS, somehow, weird that: the 2 biggest set-pieces for this band, in fact, both, hail from this period, just after Bon Scott's tragic death.
On Back In Black, there was the song "Hell's Bells" and that became a fixture on stage with the, actual, poured iron "Hell's Bell" that came out in that tour ...and every tour after (of course, I haven't seen the band in 20 years, or so) (and would not, after Malcolm's death. I thought they would shut-it-down ...but ...🤷🤷) ...so, I ASSUME that: they, still, bring it our =t with them.
It has been a fixture for ...well: ...would be over 40 years, now! 🤷).
THEN, because of the cannon-fire you heard, on that track, the band, also, decided to have ACTUAL (well, o.k., not "actual." They didn't get "functional munitions" made and put on-stage POINTING AT THEIR AUDIENCE!
...However: they DID have real cannon-style, metal, things made, which, while they did NOT fire cannonballs, WERE, absolutely, used to contain and have explosives set-off in their barrels.
SO: WHEN you go see the band and they play THIS SONG! THEY, ACTUALLY,. SET-off "cannon-fire" and you hear the song as close to the album version as you could imagine!
Yes.
...that's dedication!
(and: a bit insane, as well!!!! 😆🤣😛😜🤘🤘🌩).
Those are cannons you are hearing! Very loud and amazing live! ACDC usually ends their concerts with this song!
Gravel and grit. A wonderful voice. Try some Krokus for some of the similar
🤘🤘💣💣🤘🤘
LIVE!
