Top Ten Worst Hit Songs of 2019
#SpectrumPulse #Top10 #WorstSongsOf2019
I like how the thumbnail looks like you’ve torn off Lewis Capaldi’s head and now you’re holding it like a basketball
Methinks he did that on purpose.
I guess I'm kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to watch new series online?
Brendon Urie's most recent record is basically 30 minutes of him bragging about how he's "made it" without acknowledging the BAND that helped him even reach an ounce of that success. He's not self-made, he didn't do it all himself, and yet half of his music these days is a boasting fest. He's running the Panic! name into the ground for no reason considering how inflated his ego has become. Surprised he isn't jumping to plaster his own name all over instead
It doesn’t help that Panic has always been a pretentious brand of pop-punk.
Isaiah Milde I definitely wouldn’t call them a pop-punk band, more like dance-rock.
The only reason he doesn’t change the name is the brand relevance
Not to mention the constant praise he gets for being the only member and a multi-instrument. That’s great, except... who gives a shit? A lot of the music is programmed, the instrumentation is very simple and a lot of it is handled by guest musicians
I have to say, one of the reasons I appreciate your channel so much is that even if I disagree with your opinions, I can always get where you're coming from. I've always been able to say "Yeah, that's fair" to your reasoning. And the fact that you don't just let terrible people in the music industry go by without comment. There's a lot of bad in the world right now. Thank you for making a bright spot.
Wow. I'm stunned at that top 2, normally I can read you like a book but that was a shocker.

#FACTS
@Whatever My favorite part of this is that both songs in Mark’s top 2 made ARTV’s best list
@@ronstoppable5659 his best list as a whole disappointed me. He picked a number of songs that are on a lot of critic's worst lists. I know he is a critic himself, but I feel he can be a little too soft compared to Mark. (Jon even liked Cool by the Jonas Brothers but Mark went further in depth exposing why it's not good.)
@AlexFlamer444 I enjoy them both but I relate to Jon a lot more when it comes to music taste (I mean American Idiot is 1/6 of my profile pic), my taste is definitely a lot less “refined” than Mark’s, but I honestly thought that this was Mark”s best list video in a long time, because while I disagree with more of his picks than usual (particularly the top 2) I really like that it was genuinely unpredictable and had a lot less easy targets than his last few worst lists
*"And they do exist, shout out to good ass anthems"*
#FACTS
Many have tried to best Mix a lot, but most turn out to be well.... crap. Maybe it’s cause it’s harder than it looks. Namely admiring fine ass without creeping out the audience.
Shout out to A$$ by Big Sean, City Girls's Twerk and Act Up, My Type by Sawttie, and whatever Future/The Weekend spaz out.
I like Juicy by Doja, The solo version.
Just say Doja Cat's Juicy
The horns in 'Hey Look Ma, I Made It' on the hook just sound wrong.
The fact that Halsey's best charting song apart from Without Me this year was a BTS song is freaking hilarious.
Manic was still a great album
I could never take your #1 song seriously. Ever time I heard it, I thought of that show "Impractical Jokers." There was one episode where two guys were punished by being the opening act for Imagine Dragons, and they had to make up a song called "Look Mommy, I'm a Rock Star." "Hey Look Ma, I Made It" reminded me of that song.
Lmao I remember seeing that
2010: Deuces (Hi Chris Brown)
2011: Lighters
2012: Birthday Cake Remix (Hi Chris Brown)
2013: U.O.E.N.O
2014: Bottoms Up
2015: Dear Future Husband
2016: Treat You Better
2017: Body Like a Back Road
2018: Freaky Friday (Hi Chris Brown)
*SPOILERS*
2019: Hey Look Ma, I Made It
Bet you Lighters would be #10 on his worst of the decade hit list.
@@crazyluigi6664 probably only an honorable mentions. Songs like FEFE, Tunnel Vision and Me Too might take priority.
@@422youngstar That's very fair. I mean, Fefe was completely wretched in its own accord! Implications relating to it from all the artists involved only make it a lot worse by comparison.
His number one for this year is actually good
I thought Treat You Better was 2017? Either way worse songs came out on both years
Seeing “Hey Look Ma, I Made It” at number 1 hurts me, as a long time Panic! fan, but I can’t help but agree with you. With Pray For The Wicked being out for well over a year now, I think most Panic! fans (except for the cringy stans on Twitter) can admit how awful it truly was
I personally didn't mind Saturday Night and I still enjoy High Hopes to this day. That being said, Hey Look Ma, I Made It was a genuine mistake made by Brandon Urie that I wish never even made it on his album, never mind be a genuine hit song in the first place!
@Crazy Luigi I actually kind of like that one, I mean at least it’s not One Of The Drunks, Silver Lining, or Dancing Is Not A Crime
If he wanted to get another hit, why didn’t he just push something like ‘The Overpass’? It’s way better than any of the shit that charted from PFTW.
I don't mind Hey Look Ma I Made It
I just realized: 'Hey Look Ma, I Made It' is a low-rent AJR song!
that's what ive been saying!
As someone who enjoys AJR for the fact that I just find the fake as all hell trumpets to just be funny and good to listen to for a little lighthearted laugh......
Panics’ fake horns are so terribad that I can’t really find any sort of ironic humor in. Throw in the arrogant nature the lyrics exude, and you have a recipe for musical disaster.
If AJR is the pop music equivalent to the infamous funny yet awful movie “The Room””, then Panic is like the “Manos The Hands of Fate” of the music charts imo.
@@spritelady4669 I genuinely like AJR. I don't really see how anyone could hate them, or find them to be a so bad it's good band. I just think they write good songs.
Train on the other hand, that's a so bad it's good band.
@@jeremyusreevu237 I like them but the lyrcs can be shit, they sing what you hear with no deeper meaning which can be good cause they're "real" but it also leaves more to be wanted, the instruments can be good like the entertainment's here where everything flows good even if it has shit electric trumpets but other songs like birthday party had an amazing orchestral trumpet section which was covered by the weak drums and loud af vocals
Everyone likes that song now
Mark pulled a lot of twist on this list. It would be more shocking if I Don't Care makes the honourable mentions on the best list lol.
That would be awesome!!!!!
I think it should be at least in the Dishonorable Mentions. It's production is extremely lackluster and Beiber and Sheeran sound almost similar. It was only popular because of the name value both artists have.
You know, coming from at this point probably a ex Panic! fan, seeing you rip into Panic! and Hey Look Ma, I Made It (which is the song I was actually fine with this year) might just easily be the most SATISFYING feeling of 2019
@elmo0280 How is Mark ripping into a song that you think is fine, satisfying?
@@ronstoppable5659 Its more him ripping into current Panic! that feels good mainly cause it's almost exactly how I feel at this point, the song just happens to be a bystander of that
I feel like if it had been more popular, Mama Look At Me Now by Galantis would have made it as from an outsider point of view, they haven't released a popular song since 2016. As a person who likes most of their music I dislike it as it combines the worst part of Scandinavian songs written about childhood (Don't you worry child, the nights and 7 years primarily), flex songs and prog house. It goes from 'man my school life was shiiiit' to 'WE ARE CHRISTIAN AND LINUS, PRODUCERS OF PRODUCERS. LOOK ON MY HELICOPTER, YE RAVERS, AND DESPAIR!'
“Shoutout to the good ass anthems” -Mark Grondin 2019
I get why people dislike Someone You Loved, but I completely agree that the song is over-hated. The only difference of my opinion is that I think the song is alright. That being said, I did not expect #1 and #2, good video Mark.
Only thing truly hatable about it is the chorus. Maybe the AND IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII~ as well for reminding me of a worse version of what Whitney Houston did with that motif.
It’s not overhated, it’s as bad as everyone said
@@ffjreviews9029 Agreed lol, I think Todd and The Mode Reviews expressed it the best, the song is literally awful in every single element
It's not overhated, but there are worse songs that should have been hated instead
@@slamwall9057 Ehhhhhh 2019 was mostly a good year. Personally I think SYL is the worst song on a pure musical level of the entire year, there's more hatable artists and even songs for sure but SYL is by far my least favorite hit of 2019.
Yes it's really bad that the music industry is putting out unfinished songs if all they're after is for people to get the vibe. But doesn't it make more sense that if you want a vibe, you should make the songs longer so that you can enjoy them longer?
Nah, the shorter you keep the song the quicker you play it again = more streams. So songs will likely be getting shorter and shorter. Just look at old town road. The final version w 4 artists on it still doesn’t break 3 min. At least that’s my understanding of it
Streaming platforms pay artists based on how many minutes people have listened to their music. Short songs on repeat tend to be listened to for more minutes than long songs played through once or twice. That means there's more profit to be made in catchy, short songs which are unfulfilling in one listen as they demand repeat listens
@@iwantaoctosteponmyneckbut3545 that makes a lot of sense. It's 2020 at the time of me writing this and I often listen to Roses Imabek remix or Ride it by DJ Regard 5 or 6 times in a row because they're both short and I wish they weren't. But yes, I see what you mean.
Wow, wasn't expecting Middle Child here.
Also wasn't expecting 7 rings not in here
@dayzgone Same thank you
@dayzgone oh but it's trash
@BoO wHoRe no
@brandon roberts Exactly. Just stick to singing.
dayzgone Respect opinions or you’re being toxic
I still hold that Death of a Bachelor was a massively entertaining album, and that Pray For The Wicked's big single High Hopes has merit. But Hey Look Ma I Made It is a waste. What did the Muppets ever to do Brendon Urie?
Dont forget he was also on the the very awful, Me! Spelling is fun.
Mark never ceases to surprise me. No no guidence but middle child makes it?! Tbf he explained his dislike for the latter very well like always, but still, totally didnt see it coming
I'm surprised he didn't put I Don't Care or 7 Rings. I think 7 Rings is the worst of the year.
@@alex_flamer & Rings was the worst, but Hey Ma was right behind. I really liked Say Amen last year. I liked High Hopes for a few months. Hey, Look Ma is just awful.
Alex_flamer "break up with your boyfriend, i'm bored" is significantly worse than "7 Rings", honestly, to the point that it kind of overshadows what an awkward mess the latter is.
That J Cole placement took me by surprise! Not expecting that at all.
That top 2 caught me off guard. I honestly expected Robbery, 7 rings, or Without Me to top the list.
Didn’t really care for “Middle Child” honestly as a J. Cole fan. But I’m surprised Panic! was your number 1 pick! I actually like that song HAHA but you do have a point cause he’s done a lot better; do I need to remind you how much of a monstrosity “Pray For The Wicked” was? 🙄
I’m also surprised that Ed Sheeran’s/Bieber’s “I Don’t Care” wasn’t on this list cause that was a major disappointment
@Jose Solis Yeah, Hey Look Ma, I Made It isn’t one of the better Panic! songs but it’s certainly one of the better songs on Pray For The Wicked, If a song like One Of The Drunks, Silver Lining, or Dancing Is Not A Crime charted, those would’ve easily made my worst list
Bring Back Kim Possible, Animated Obviously Yes I agree! Although “Dancing’s Not a Crime” and “(Fuck A) Silver Lining” I don’t mind but I respect your opinion xD
Sadly with “Pray For The Wicked”, I had high hopes (haha😉) that it’d be great. Boy, was I wrong...
Jose Solis I honestly found I Don’t Care to be quite forgettable than outright awful I mean in my mind I didn’t care for I don’t care 😂😂😂
I like Hey Lool Ma I Made It too, but I adore I Don't Care.
Daniel Romano put out the only "Middle Child" I will acknowledge.
Genuinely caught off guard by some of these picks, even moreso than Todd's.
I didn't really care much for #2, but #1... I knew it was bad, but wow, you tore into it more than I knew it needed. Awesome video as always. :)
'Only Human' is a surprisingly sour song.
Megan Stallion gives a lot more joy then Cardi could ever.
i like her better in general, but its not like Cardi hasn't put out her share of quality stuff either (I Do, No Limit, Clout, Bodak Yellow, Motorsport, etc)
True
Something I've always wondered is why you do the honorable mentions before #10 on Modern Lists, but before number 1 on retro lists.
"The Top Ten Worst Hit Songs of 2019", or as I like to call it, the "Merry Christmas... your song sucks!" list. :P
Youre not the guy on the official charts website are you?
@@themodereviews3182 I am actually! :D
@@piran1807 I tried to set up an account to communicate with you cause I was going to ask if I could snip your take on Kitchen Kings for one of my videos, but unfortunately I had no idea!
@@themodereviews3182 I know you can chat on the OCC forum through Disqus, so maybe try signing up with them! If not, then yeah, you have my permission to use my review of 'Kitchen Kings' in your video (but please give me a shout-out, haha!).
And this is how I found out EARTH didn't make it in the Hot 100. Since it isn't here.
GOOD.
It barely even charted to begin with, zero longevity
Middle Child isn’t great, but really second worst? Hard disagree from me
Same, I think lyrically it's pretty great (apart from the Kodak Black shoutout) and the production was pretty great too.
Yeah exactly
Jake D. It's self-important, self-righteous, entitled, above-it-all sourpuss whinging over sodden, flatfooted production from one of the most terminally overrated MCs in the game. It's really that simple. Also shoutout to Cole's condescending sexist bullshit in Noname's direction which got him some rightful heat more recently, but that's more a symptom of the arrogance which spoils his work more generally. Honestly, I'm not 100% a hater-the guy has legit talent underneath it all, and stuff like his verse on 21 Savage's "A Lot" is pretty compelling-but by and large I'm just done with his shit, not to Kanye levels obviously, but enough that I just kind of don't bother most of the time.
I was not expecting "Middle Child" or "Hey Look Ma, I Made It" to be #2 and #1 on your list. That caught me off guard!
I expected Hey Look Ma I Made It to be on the list because Mark always talked about that song in a negative way, but I did absolutely NOT expect Middle Child to make it. Especially this high.
@The Misunderstood Assassin My favorite part of this is the fact that both songs in the top 2 made ARTV’s best list
Why are people selling Juice Wrld as a rapper? He's more of a singer than a rapper.
And as much as I love Panic! At the Disco... this was much deserved. Brendon has lost EVERY bit of what made him stand out from the pop crowd. He said once he's all about the new. That, in my opinion, should have been a warning that it was only going to get worse. And for anyone who thinks I'm stuck in P!ATD's past, it's because he's capable of so much better. You can't tell me this is him evolving. And what pisses me off even more is that he IS capable of making a GREAT Panic!-style Pop album (Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die).
Probably because his biggest hit was a bog-standard soundcloud rap song. Also, his singing voice is one of the worst I have ever heard in mainstream music. That vocal delivery in Robbery is absolutely horrendous.
It's sad that he died at such a young age for sure, but I'm not going to give his music a pass just because he passed. It's still awful.
@@huntercrunch94 he's not rapping on that song, though. He's singing. Yeah, I agree, terribly, but it's still singing.
He's become a product of the music industry. His label told him to fire all the other members of the band, still use the Panic name, market themselves as a band instead of being a one person pop act, and they told him to make bad pop music.
@@alex_flamer I agree with the first part. The rest of that I'm going to have to see proof because that's a bit of a stretch.
As somebody who mostly becomes aware of popular songs through the radio, I didn't know about half of the songs on this list. If more bad songs can stay in their corner, I'd be fine with that.
1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, and most of the dishonorable mentions were at radio smashes in some capacity. It also depends on what station you choose to listen to. Most major cities have a station for top 40 pop, hip-hop, country, and alternative (which plays pop punk from the late 90s & 2000s, and the modern "alternative" is really just indie pop from groups with only one hit because it got picked to play in TV commercials. It often gets called rock, but it's actually not.)
Also the actual rock stations which are still playing new material from post-grunge and nu metal bands that aren't really at their peak anymore. Also never bands that are retro or very easy to digest like Ghost or Greta Van Fleet.
Calling it now, Mark will refer to this list as ‘inevitably the one that will get the most attention’. Bookmark me
@HyperionNova That’s for good reason though, it’s a lot more entertaining to watch someone tear something to shreds than praise something, I usually just skim through the best list to see what the picks are but I watch the entire worst lists with popcorn and everything
And yet his most popular video is Top 10 Best Hit Songs of 2015
@ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED No, it's not. I checked it literally right now and The Top Ten Best Hit Songs of 2015, video with the most views on the channel is alive and well
@ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED That's sad
I pretty much agree with this entire list except for Middle Child. Great video!
I’m honestly tired of the “trap” era and would love to see it fade quickly. Literally every song has a trap beat making it just so tiresome and repetitive at this point.
I would love to see R&B, Pop & Rock to make a comeback next decade. As far as R&B I would love to see real singers comeback and maybe a new boy group.
Philip Moore I totally agree! It sucks how much trap/mumble rap is ruining decent rap for me. The beats are so grating to my ears I can’t stand it anymore
TipTheScales27 exactly 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 literally the same recycled beat in every song
The only ones doing anything worth a damn is Kendrick Lamar and a few stand out tracks from other artist like Travis Scott (Sicko Mode is great). I'm finding more interesting music on RUclips music channels. As for R&B, yeah. I'm really missing when R&B tracks were more numerous.
I've grown numb to Trap beats over the past few years.
fast forward to 2021 and r&b has had a great showing on the hot 100 this year and rock is starting to come back
Since it's been established that "Without Me" by Halsey was a lock for this list even without the music auto-detection spoiling it, Halsey has become the first artist in the history of this show to make the worst list in some capacity FOUR years in a row. A record-breaking queen (:P). For reference:
2016: "Closer" with The Chainsmokers (Dishonorable Mention, barely missed the worst list)
2017: "Now or Never" (Dishonorable Mention)
2018: "Bad At Love" (#10)
2019: "Without Me" (placement confirmed in a reply to this comment, but not spoiling for now)
I don't like her music
#5
I already love this list by having Someone You Loved in the DM & having other songs in the worst list that I actually like!! You never fail to amaze us each year Mark!
That #1 pick actually shocked me.
Its my #1 also. It's a mess
Things I want the most for popular music in the 2020s: a pop rock/pop punk mainstream revival, trap to die out, and Maroon 5 to become irrelevant
@Quentin Childs Sadly, the only band from the current scene that I see having any mainstream appeal is Waterparks, also I have a feeling that Waterparks would’ve been a lot bigger if they were around in the mid 2000s, on the level of the All American Rejects and Boys Like Girls (especially since BLG were pretty much the last band from that scene to have legitimate mainstream popularity, it became a niche genre after their popularity ended around 2010)
I’ve been waiting for Maroon 5 to become irrelevant for 4 years.
@Dark Requiem If Billboard didn’t count radio they probably would’ve been irrelevant a long time ago
@Dark Requiem It’s a shame too, I remember being a kid and hearing Makes Me Wonder and Won’t Go Home Without You on the radio all the time and still really like both of those songs to this day, oh how the mighty have fallen
@Quentin Childs I really like Neck Deep but I think that their sound and lyrical content (along with the other bands you mentioned) really isn’t very accessible and doesn’t have the appeal for casual listeners, in the same way that Blink, Sum 41, All American Rejects, Avril, Panic!, Fall Out Boy, Boys Like Girls, Green Day, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Paramore, and MCR did
Seeing Lewis Capaldi on the thumbnail makes me intrigued and very very pleased.
EDIT: I was very disappointed it was only a DHM 😔
Yeah... pretty obvious which song it's going to be though 😄
@@tiowa6174 Yeah, I think you're on to something lol
only a DHM....wut
Now I will agree with my fellow peers that your #2 pick definitely shocked me. I honestly think it deserved a dishonorable mention because it's not great, but it's not that bad to get so high on your list. But pretty great list throughout
Can't believe you put 'When The Party's Over' at #1 Mark, that was an amazing song!
He actually put Hey Look Ma I Made It at number 1
Shout-out to the good ass anthem
-Spectrum Pulse 2019
Wow I’m really disappointed by Bruno Mars 🥺🥺🥺
I've been watching some of your videos, Spectrum Pulse. You are a very good music critic. Keep up the good work.
While it wasn’t the worst, I could not call this a “good” year either. Hell, even my Best list isn’t going to be that extensive since very few songs made a lasting impact on me.
@ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED I'd more say an eh at best for me. 5, maybe 6 at best.
Since a good number or entries on this "Worst Hit Songs" list weren't even originally listed among the worst songs from their respective parent albums, I wonder how much the ratings of those records will be affected. For instance:
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Parent album: Khalid - Free Spirit
Original worst tracks listing: "Paradise"
Song that soured: "Talk"
Original album rating: Light 6/10
Parent album: Jonas Brothers - Happiness Begins
Original worst tracks listing: "Cool", "Happy When I'm Sad", "Trust"
Song that soured: "Only Human"
Original album rating: Strong 4/10
Parent album: Dreamville - Revenge of the Dreamers III
Original worst tracks listing: "Don't Hit Me Right Now"
Song that soured: "Middle Child" by J. Cole
Original album rating: Strong 5/10
Parent album: Panic! At The Disco - Pray For The Wicked
Original worst tracks listing: "King Of The Clouds"
Song that soured: "Hey Look Ma, I Made It"
Original album rating: Light 5/10
A less extreme case:
Parent album: Ariana Grande - thank u, next
Original worst tracks listing: "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored" (didn't expect it to rank this high on the worst list)
Song that soured: "7 Rings" (confirmed by this tweet, but missed the list: twitter.com/SpectrumPulse/status/1193958509278355458)
Original album rating: 6/10
An inverse example:
Parent album: Juice WRLD
Original worst tracks listing: "Robbery", "Empty", "Feeling", "Big", "ON GOD" ft. Young Thug, "Out My Way"
Song that was mellowed towards: "Robbery"
Original album rating: Light 2/10
My thoughts on these songs:
DM1: Agreed. This song is bad, but it gets a little too much hate from people. There were way worse songs than this one.
DM2: Kodak Black continues to suck. This better be his last hit.
DM3: Never heard this one, but yeah, this definitely gives me Nasty Freestyle vibes.
DM4: Also never heard this one.
DM5: 6ix9ine continues to suck as well.
DM6: That high-pitched "money" makes Tones & I sound way more pleasant to listen to in comparison.
DM7: Pretty surprised to see this one, but you make some great points in justifying this placement.
10: I never knew about this, and I'm glad I didn't.
9: This song is so incompetent, but it's also hilariously bad, so I can't hate it. And you make some great points about Interscope's immense greed.
8: I forgot about this.
7: I liked Sucker, but yeah, even I can't defend this one. It sucks.
6: I absolutely despise Marshmello's production. He's by far my least favourite producer currently mainstream.
5: Halsey continues to be a terrible and toxic artist. This going to number 1...ugh.
4: I don't know how this slipped past my worst list, especially since Kodak Black is on it.
3: YES. This was my number 1 worst hit song of the year for a reason. By far Ariana's biggest disappointment. The music video is a complete lie as well.
2: Well you got me with this one! I never even knew this existed. And I thought putting Sweet but Psycho as my number 2 worst hit song on my list was a shock to many.
1: Another shocker to me! The only years where your number 1 pick surprised me were 2011, 2014, and 2019.
Thanks for the Christmas present, Mark. I'll see you for your top 10 best hit songs list.
You know, it occured to me that if you look at the decade end list at face value Halsey is one of the biggest artists of the decade... I think starting from the top she's the first to appear twice (Closer at 5 and Without me at 12). But it really doesn't feel like she's as big as that suggests.
"Shoutout to the good ass anthems" -Mark 2019
Holy shit, that moment at the end where you called out Brendon Urie, I felt that. And if Brendon Urie ever gets to see this (most likely by someone sending it to him via his twitch) I hope he feels the same. While I don't think we expect 1st or even 2nd iteration Panic! anymore, Death of a Bachelor had so many great moments for me, from Crazy= Genius to my personal favorite Panic! song period 'Don't Threaten me with a good time' to Emperor's New Clothes and House of Memories that the mediocrity of this last project stands out even more
Longtime Panic! at the Disco fan here. I absolutely loved Hey Look Ma, I Made It. It's not necessarily my favorite song by them, but definitely one of the best from the album. I was actually always hoping this would be a hit, especially since it's just High Hopes but better. I think it has some really good energy and bombast which carries the tone its going for. I read it less as sarcasm and more as a celebration of all that he's been through, not that he only achieved success recently. Maybe I just overlistened to it in 2018 that it sounded stale in 2019, but it's still a fantastic song. And I mostly agreed with all the pics on this list except for that one.
Wonder how you feel about it making his worst of the decade list
@@wrigglenight93 oh pissed. I really do not understand what made this song worse than so many other songs. I guess its personal preference, but his tastes are why I stopped watching him
@@wizardzeestudios Should've been higher
Sadly, I couldn't have agreed more with both the pick and the reason behind it for nr 1. Great list, as always!
Juice sounded so rough on that song. Bless him.
Best thing about One Thing Right, is that badass looking car in the video 😬😬😬
Disagreements:
Talk: #3 on my best list. I have no idea what you're talking about with this song.
Robbery: #6 on my best list. I personally find it really relaxing.
Hey Look Ma I Made It: #9 on my best list. I think it's ok.
10) No Guidance- Chris Brown ft. Drake
9) Mia- Bad Bunny ft. Drake
8) I Don't Care- Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber
7) Baby- Lil Baby & DaBaby
6) Murder On My Mind- YNW Melly
5) Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored- Ariana Grande
4) Knockin Boots- Luke Bryan
3) Thotiana- Blueface
2) Mo Bamba- Sheck Wes
1) Only Human- Jonas Brothers
Dishonorable Mentions:
Money In The Grave- Drake ft. Rick Ross
Pure Water- Mustard & Migos

Dylan George how bout someone you loved
Why is murder on my mind here and not someone you loved.
I didn't even know Panic at the Disco was still a thing.
Mistertbones It’s really just Brendan doing shitty pop songs.
I liked Robbery personally. I thought the over the top vocals and melodramatic lyrics added to the theme and point of the song. Thought the beat was cool too.
Also disagree with middle child. I agree, J. Cole is not a top 10 rapper of this generation (Denzel Curry, Joey Bada$$, Tyler, Earl, Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick Lamar, and Danny Brown are all more interesting to listen to) but I think that the song is a smart critique of his own career. He's not as high brow as the people I mentioned, but he certainly isn't making mindless pap like Lil Pump or Kodak Black. He's just OK
Just my opinion though, not like it matters
I don’t think I have EVER seen a more shocking Worst List from Spectrum Pulse than this!!
THANK YOU SOMEBODY YOU LOVED REALLY ISN'T THAT BAD every list puts it top 3. You rule Mark keep it up
me neither, it's just not THE WORST THING MADE EVERER
Bulk Noise I dunno man that song blows harder than...a lot
Correction: Someone you loved *IS* that bad
hot take when Before You Go is at its biggest...
That top 2 was very unexpected! Great video, BTW!
Wait, why does RUclips list Only Human twice around that bottom section? Also, thanks for spoiling some of the entries, RUclips! UwU;
'One Thing Right' feels like a song that shouldn't have even made the year-end charts.

calling dababy lil baby 2 isn't really fair. they're very different stylistically
Taki Taki was one of the dumbest things I've heard this year. It was on the radio and the crazy thing is, it means literally nothing.
@@plasmictrojan3963 You got a point there. Granted i'm not the biggest Dababy fan, he's certainly miles better than Lil Baby.
I typed it that way because i really dislike his rap name. There's seriously nothing cool about naming yourself after a baby. It's like he's asking for a wedgie
@@youngkennie1164 To answer for why he named himself DaBaby... his previous rap name was Baby Jesus. Yeah.......
@@crazyluigi6664 Ok man. That is just legendary.
TBH he Should have kept that name, although given how easy it is to offend anyone, especcialy in religion, i don't fault him.
Middle Child...
What?
I really wish that Dumb Blonde had charted because I really needed material for my worst list this year, also as an early Avril fan I really hope that Mark’s next retro worst list is 2007 because seeing the song that began her downfall get torn apart after the dismal year she just had would be so cathartic
I want to see a best list from that year as well.
@Lil' Miss Different On that topic, here’s my 2007 best list:
1. Welcome To The Black Parade- My Chemical Romance
2. Misery Business- Paramore
3. Makes Me Wonder- Maroon 5
4. The Great Escape- Boys Like Girls
5. Stronger- Kanye West
6. This Ain’t A Scene- Fall Out Boy
7. It Ends Tonight- All American Rejects
8. I Don’t Wanna Be In Love- Good Charlotte
9. Face Down- Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
10. Never Again- Kelly Clarkson
Honorable Mentions:
What I’ve Done- Linkin Park
When You’re Gone- Avril Lavigne
Hey There Delilah- Plain White Ts
Thnks Fr Th Mmrs- Fall Out Boy
SOS- Jonas Brothers
Teenagers- My Chemical Romance
The Sweet Escape- Gwen Stefani
What Goes Around, Comes Around- Justin Timberlake
Bring Back Kim Possible, Animated Obviously Back when Maroon 5 had material worth putting on a best list...man how the mighty have fallen.
@Arcane Master In terms of hits, Won’t Go Home Without You was their last great song
I didn’t mind Girlfriend it’s one of those songs that has bad lyrics but great music.
2019 was a year where in the mainstream, music just stopped mattering. The only artists who made points this year were mostly unconventional acts like Billie, BTS, Megan thee Stallion, and Lizzo, and Ariana Grande. The big acts (Taylor, Ed) fell off hard, and some other artists only have traction because of sympathy and payola. Like 2017 and 2018, 2019 was a year where the best music is either not popular or got popular in other countries.
DM1: I feel like I'm the only one who thought it was a good song. Despite the whininess, it sounded sincere enough, and Lewis Capaldi has potential.
DM2: The music sounds like a slowed down version of the Backyard Beach song from Phineas and Ferb, a much better song. I've never listened to this in full because it's by Kodak Black
DM3: This was popular?
DM4: Never heard of it
DM5: Look Back at It was better
DM6: This ended up growing on me and is now one of my jams
DM7: This was a song that I only listened to in the background when I had stuff to do or if I didn't charge my phone to listen to music off of it and had to listen to the radio. Not one of Khalid's best.
10. This should have never been made or got big. Now that he's gotten exposed as a domestic abuser, I hope he fades into oblivion.
9. A song I never listened to in full and didn't think was going to get that popular in the first place. RIP though...
8. See 10 except for the domestic abuse part
7. This was the best song from the Jonas Brothers reunion. That said, the Jonas Brothers have never been good since their Disney days and only have maybe 3 songs in their entire discography that are listenable. They only got back together this year because the music industry is threatened that a non-American, non-white boy band (BTS) are getting big and they need to stick to the status quo and make a white boy band the biggest one of the time (if that is the case, then they should have gotten Nsync...) I hope they disband next year
6. This is a song that is just there and barely exists, similar to Talk by Khalid
5. Aww, this is one of my jams :(
4. Yeah, this isn't one of Bruno's best
3. Another jam
2. Never listened to it in full but it sounds lame
1. See DM7
It's almost like the general public, radio, or the music industry itself is afraid of promoting/listening to actual good music.
Hurt seeing Talk on dishonorable mentions lol, personally really like that song
The Coaster Craze yea same it grew on me over the year
Did not expect that #1, but that song in particular has honestly soured on me so much since I first heard it. I like Panic! a lot, even PFTW is a good album in my opinion, but that song...ugh. It’s garbage for all the reasons you said, and it makes no sense in the context of the album. The album generally becomes more cynical as it progresses, it comes down from the escapist high and focuses on the turmoil (or drug/alcohol abuse) that he tries to hide for his image’s sake. Having a sarcastic “fuck you” to record labels right before the most genuinely, wholesomely happy track betrays all of that.
And for a while, I was willing to entertain it. I thought,”Oh, it sounds like this, just so happening to be utter shit, because it wants to be bootlegs High Hopes,” but then the two-sidedness of the song is grossly mishandled. One, why wouldn’t you then have it right *after* High Hopes, when it’s fresh on your mind. Two, why not have bouncy, perhaps slightly annoying production of that song, while not cranking the latter up to eleven, be the carefree, joyful element to counter the content? So many quality songs have done that, and even better, they can even fool the audience; Extra thematic effect!
gotta go rant over ig great video merry Christmas :)

Gotta say, when HLMIMI debuted you seemed displeased with it at worst. Didn't think it'd sour on you this hard :o

@@jirky015 so you're going to generalize an entire time period of popular music as garbage and then call yourself open minded. So every single hit song of the past 10-15 years (or however you define "modern") is trash.
I literally made my list weeks in advance so that I wouldn't be accused of copying you. And then I saw your #1, which just happened to be the same as mine.
That was cathartic. Great list as always. Here's mine:
10. 'Talk' by Khalid
9. 'High Hopes' by Panic! at the Disco
8. 'Only Human' by Jonas Brothers
7. '7 rings' by Ariana Grande
6. 'One Thing Right' by Marshmello ft. Kane Brown
5. 'Eyes on You' by Chase Rice
4. 'Mo Bamba' by Sheck Wes
3. 'Someone You Loved' by Lewis Capaldi
2. 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' by Ariana Grande
1. 'Hey Look Ma, I Made It' by Panic! at the Disco
Nice! Saw your list on rym
Hey look ma, they have the same nr 1
Why is HLMIMI your number one? I’m curious.
@Chocolatezeus Productions Yeah, that genuinely shocked me, I actually kind of like that one, it’s not great or anything but I don’t mind it at all
@@thetonytaye A lot of the same reasons it was Mark's; it sounds like a below-average AJR song, it's annoying as all hell, a pure sellout track from a band that is capable of SO much more. It's the sort of twee, self-satisfied bullshit that's offensive just for how little effort was put in, at least I had nothing in the way of expectations for Lewis Capaldi or Chase Rice. It's not a song that would make a worst of the 2010s list, but damn if it isn't close.
Last time I was this early I couldn’t even watch the video yet.

Here's my list:
10. ITZY - Dalla Dalla
9. Chris Janson - Good Vibes
8. Maroon 5 - Memories
7. The Descendants Cast - Queen of Mean & Night Falls
6. Offset & Cardi B - Clout
5. Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber - I Don't Care
4. Tropkillaz, J Balvin, Anitta, MC Zaac - Bola Rebola
3. Juice WRLD - Robbery
2. Lil Dicky - Earth
1. Pinkfong - Baby Shark
Anon Ymous As a fan of IZTY I still get why you would be inclined to put it on a worst list- the production is loud and over-the-top. Saying that when you look at the lyrics they make Dalla dalla fall on the more empowering side of GG concepts where the members say how they don’t care what people say about them, they’ll just keep being themselves.
No if you want a kpop song for the worst list I have a couple; Ah yeah by Winner and Room shaker by Ailee
2019 was a year where every artist I had no expectations for suprised me by releasing songs I liked. Winner was not one of them. They’ve spent the past couple years trying (and failing) to recapture the success of their 2017 hit Really really by recycling the same worn out tropical houses cliches that felt like they were beating a dead horse. I’d go as far as calling them the Maroon 5 of kpop, pumping out the same vaguely pleasent tropical summer song year after year.
All you need to know about Room Shaker is that Ailee has vocals like Ariana Grande and this was her 7 rings. A boged down trap anti-dance song it was not worth getting into label conflicts to release.
I would switch dalla dalla with icy that one feels more messy
Glad Ariana and Bruno are finally making these lists 👀
Well, since I missed the premiere (unfortunately), save for the very surprising #2 and a pleasant surprise (yet justifiably so in this case) for #1, I figure I might as well talk about them here and now while I still can. Hopefully I won't miss the best songs list for the obvious #1 there. ;)
DM1: Interesting surprise there, though I do recall you seeming you didn't mind this song at first. Key words being at first...
DM2: Honestly, I found Wake Up In The Sky worst, but yeah, dishonorable mention is right for Kodak Black.
DM3: I always feel like it's going to be a mispronunciation away from being something very awkward with its title at hand... **Cough**Shota Flow**Cough** God, this weather, am I right? Also, as bad as this song may be, I always found Leave Me Alone worse by comparison due to how awkward it is for a person's debut entering people's subconscious.
DM4: Oh God, this song! Yeah, this song would likely be in my worst songs of the year list.
DM5: A bit surprised you didn't put the song on the list proper, let alone any higher, but yeah, it's best we leave 6ix9ine behind completely as an artist once he's let out of prison (especially since I genuinely wonder who would work with him after some rappers apparently think snitchin' is so much worse than being sexually involved with a 13 year old girl). Also, the main artist *seriously* needs to change his name if he wants genuine respect moving forward! Maybe to, let's say, An Artist Named Artist? Just a thought. ;)
DM6: Yeah, this song definitely signified Cardi B's fall from grace this year if last year was her breakout, grace period of sorts. Seriously should have had Best Life with Chance The Rapper as a single instead! :|
DM7: This one was definitely a shrinker, and yeah, more songs like Better and Saturday Nights, less songs like Talk going forward, please.
10.: Yeah, I never got it back when it first rising, almost got a bit briefly, but it ultimately failed to stick around for the long-term for me. Hell, nearly everything else that was attached to this song in question, including the guy in question that he named the song after, never mind the war between this song and Sicko Mode that somehow happened back in the earliest points of 2019, was more interesting then the song itself. That's a very bad sign in its own right, and yes, it's honestly at a just right spot to me.
9.: Yeah... this song honestly was a serious contender for my worst hit song of the year due to how it reminded me of something like Simple Plan would put out, now in emo rap form. That being said, it was a nice surprise this song went from a major "WORST OF THE WEEK" to only being #9, even if it does relate to the artist's way too unfortunate and early death in some regards. It's too soon to think about it as a genuine #1 worst hit song of the year now, and it's like you said, you really can't get angry at it. R.I.P. Juice WRLD. :(
8.: While I did say Leave Me Alone was my worst contender for rap songs made by new(er) artists, this song that I won't even dare mention it's title properly is a close second there. Yeah, it's a easy target that likely had his 15 minutes of fame already, but come on, we should know better than prop up a meme (song) like this to something that it really should not be by now. Probably doesn't help that I saw comparisons of him in terms of looks to Kelly Oubre Jr. up close and personal around specific sections of RUclips either.
7.: Wait, the band themselves admitted this song only took 90 seconds to write down?! Wow... it almost makes you wonder why it's not higher on the list properly. Radical Douche definitely got that one right on the money! Sucker was nice, but everything else was so not worth it.
6.: Yeah, I know that song would be on there somewhere! You know what's sad, though? I honestly don't mind Kane Brown here, and I do know there are about two or three songs involving Marshmello that I do genuinely like. However, in the case of Marshmello in particular, any good will I had for him earlier on with those few songs *really went down the drain* with these last two years, especially those songs he did with Anna-Marie (fuck that Friends song in particular), Bastille (almost forgot about that Happier song, which has severely soured on me quite a good bit), CHVRCHES (seriously, it had to take someone like Marshmello for CHVRCHES to even taste mainstream media, with Chris Brown having no real repercussions over the shit he said to CHVRCHES? Come on now!), Chris Brown, and metalcore band A Day To Remember of all things. This, however, is probably the ugliest in terms of impact possible, though.
5.: I knew it. I don't have much to say for it, besides I don't care for it one way or another. Still, I fucking knew it.
4.: Yeah, in terms of hit songs, this one is worse for Bruno Mars (and by technical extension, Kodak Black) by comparison. Might be a dishonorable mention due to how boring it sounds, but it's a very forgettable one at that. And for Bruno Mars especially, that's a major problem for his end between this and Please Me.
3.: Honestly, 7 Rings is still a worse song for Ariana Grande, especially after that song's most brutal evisceration possible by Diamond Axe Studios. Still, can't say I didn't expect this one, because I did.
2.: As for this one, I genuinely *can* say I didn't see this one coming! I mean, for me, it's more of a meh track over something that would be the second-worst hit song of the year for me. Still, I do feel for what you said about J. Cole in regards to him not leaving a greater impact than what he was proclaiming he was going for this year in his song there.
1.: Yes, yes, God yes, this is absolutely dreadful beyond repair! Certainly worthy of the #1 spot this year, and this evisceration is just what I needed after all those times people decided to play this particular Panic! At The Disco song on radio stations over any other song they might have chosen that came out as singles this year! Fuck this song, watch it burn!
Yes finally been waiting for this for awhile 😬😬😬

Thanks for great video. It definetly had a lot of surprises and I can't disagree with any of them
Middle child is either a love it or hate it song. While I would make the argument that this is one of the best hit songs of the year, I completely understand why anyone would be led to think that J Cole's preaching is hypocritical and condescending
Year end worst lists are better to watch for this year than last year. Even though this is a rather mixed year in terms of quality, there is a lot of diversity in all the picks and argumentation. Whereas last year was rather dreadful and many picks are common across the board (for good reason), it definitely speaks to the monotony of last year. There is considerably less of that this year, even though there are a few common picks, and the argumentation is indeed varied throughout, especially THIS list, even if it is the same song with its problems (like Someone You Loved).
That other half of the xan joke make me laugh harder than it should've.
I like the J. Cole song. I like Cordae's answer better, but still. Great video anyway. Thanks for another year of excellent content. Got some great recommends here in 2019. Keep up the good work!
i forgot middle child existed
You talk about "Without Me" by Halsey sampling "Cry Me A River" by Justin Timberlake. Nobody has talked about the twinkling synths in "Bad At Love" by Halsey being an UNCREDITED SAMPLE of the piano line in "In The End" by Linkin Park.

I was sure Robbery would be your #1, it was the only song to make the year-end that got a WORST OF THE WEEK on Billboard Breakdown. I'm glad it wasn't, Body Like A Back Road and Freaky Friday were such obvious top picks in 2017 and 2018 that this was such a breath of fresh air. I did not see your top 2 coming at all and I loved that. Does that mean the top pick on your best list will also be unpredictable, or will the only BEST OF THE WEEK (with an exclamation point, I might add!) take the top spot like it deserves? Can't wait to find out.
I say unlike with Juice WRLD in this list, Billie Eilish wins #1 for sure there.
this started off rough for me since i love no.10 and 9 on this list, but then with the exceptions of 7, 4, and a DHM (Shotta Flow) all being songs i find pretty decent, it's all crap on here for me

A lot of these aren't even on his list. I think it goes to show how weak 2019 was. Not as bad as 2016 or 2018, but wasn't particularly good. Still a lot of bad songs and whatever was good wasn't really memorable or amazing.
Love your opening description on the Jonas Brothers songs. And it's sad that girls are still going out and buying the album on vinyl when the album isn't good and the whole reunion isn't genuine. It along with this rushed album are just a huge label attempt to make easy money since nostalgia for previous decades is huge right now. It's sad that no one can see that. (It's also surprising how no one seems concerned how they're not even a rock band anymore.)
Imo, middle child was one of the best songs of the year, and revenge of the dreamers III was a very fun album to listen to.
