I decided this year I was done buying clothes that were made from plastic. Trying to choose cotton, wool, or linen! It’s actually a great way to not spend as much because it’s harder to find. 😅

I’m doing this as well! It sos frustrating to find 100% cotton or linen dress only to find it lined with plastic like whyyyyy lol

We put our first son in soccer at 4 bc he has said he wanted to when we asked. It was a disaster. Kids crying every second chaos etc. Every kid of the team was more excited about after game snack then actually playing. We are now waiting with both of our boys until they are excited and ask us to play when they are older. They play basketball football and soccer everyday with each other outside and have no desire to play on a team. Less traveling and schedule work around for me!

I’m 51 and my kids are all grown. When I was 20 I went to school to learn cosmetology. I only did hair for a year and then I joined the military and went to nursing school, but let me tell you, that instruction in hair has saved me several thousand dollars. I have 3 sons and I’m the only one to ever cut their hair and I have always been able to do my own hair, cut, color or whatever I wanted. I have no idea how much it even costs to go to a salon so when you said $60 for two kids cuts 😮…maybe I need to go back to that line of work 😂. Great video!

A hair dresser friend of mine once told me there’s an unnoticed link between hairdressers and nurses. That it’s not uncommon for hairdressers to leave the trade and become nurses. I thought about several other nurses I’ve known who either went to hair school before becoming a nurse or were hairdressers for several years before switching. Interesting anyway

I’ve reflected on Christmas gifts now - 4 months later and what the kids still remember and use. I’ll use this to gauge next years purchases.

I decided to have a “no spend” month in February - it’s nice to see a video not necessarily intentionally “deinfluencing” but discussing that you don’t NEED to buy all these things.
I also haven’t gotten my nails done since my wedding five years ago… I find it to be unnecessary and expensive 😅
I don’t have kids but I’ve been cutting my husband’s hair since we got married and I get mine cut 1-2 times a year from my sister.
As usual, your content is very refreshing and relatable 💛

Great video! I stopped getting my nails done during COVID and I’m so happy I did. My minimal, natural nails are so much better. I’m also focusing on reducing impulse buys on Amazon. I created a habit tracker for this year and monitor every day which is holding me accountable.

Margaret, these are amazing! I really like the extracurriculars advice. I am 55 years old and I really protected our time when the children were little and we were very selective about extracurricular and I do not regret all of the time we had at home and they loved it as well. Our highest times of stress or when we let this get out of balance. One thing I am not buying this year is a gym membership. I am working out at home and trying to do walks outside.

I am 70. Always lived frugally. We had a small house with little storage. Nothing came in unless something went out. So I didn’t buy extras.
To this day, I use one handbag. Have a few, three from an aunt who died in the 80’s; a couple from my mom. Half of our closet is empty. One pair of black flats for dress. One pair of leather boots. Two pair of sandals and sneakers. Done! No one needs anywhere near as much as we have.
My kids weren’t deprived, and not indulged. They are like I was. But their spouses aren’t!

Low key changed my life when a while ago in a video you said you switched to all black socks and downsized how many pairs you had. 🤯 Bc YES they are the bain of my existence trying to match them and keep up with them all 😅 this was a good list! I can’t think of any more but already had in mind many of the ones you mentioned. You’re doing good things mama ❤️

2023 was a no buy year for me (which I documented on my channel). Christmas was especially tough and I did go over budget for gifts but I didn’t buy any Christmas decorations. This year is a low-buy year for me and I’m also drastically cutting back on the type of spending I used to do. I’m trying to figure out how I will navigate Christmas 2024 without spending so much on gifts… I also stopped getting my nails done years ago and felt a little embarrassed when I started making videos but it’s good to hear that natural nails are trending 😂

Some good ones in here! My oldest 2 girls just started their cycles and we got washable period underwear for them. I would like to also get switched to better make up for me and the girls as they start playing around with a little make up.
Sports are a big deal in our house, but our local programs dont start until 3rd grade and that seems to be a good age. They are really excited to try all the different sports and see what they love. I just consoder it part of our homeschool, giving them opportunity to try lots of things and work hard, competition, making new friends. I totally get that it can be a lot (I'm pregnant with my 7th) but I learned so many wonderful life lessons and work ethic from being a multisport athlete. As long as they are enjoying it I will figure out a way to make it fit in the schedule. Being a large family I think it really gives them something thats just theirs and we all go and and cheer them on at every game. ❤

I am with you on jewelry. I've been buying southwest inspired bc it's always been my style. I don't care if it's in style or not, it's me. I buy from handmade small businesses and love curating a nice collection of everyday wear that is sterling silver. I also do my kids haircuts.

Agree with you 100% on everything. Also we dont buy gifts for our kids on Christmas cuz family already gifts a lot. I just open one gift at a time and leave others for later when they get bored.

I have also started making my own products. From cleaning products, to hygiene products, and now making my own makeup. It feels so good not to depend on all these products that we know are harming us. And I've also started making my own sandwich bread.

Definitely agree with nails and haircuts! I have been to a nail salon once in my life and I've been cutting my own and my husbands hair for about 5 years now! We've probably saved thousands of dollars.
Also won't be buying any home decor items!

We did not do sports with our kids when they were young. We had 6 kids in 7 years and my husband worked long hours. He grew up (only child) playing soccer and put a lot of pressure on himself to give them that experience. We had to really look at our priorities and decided to not do any kids sports. I would have had to do it on my own and it wasn’t as important as healthy meals, peaceful daily routines, financial goals, and my sanity.
We homeschooled all of them until 2020 when our oldest 3 went to public school. They each tried a few sports and overall had a fun experience. My oldest started pole vaulting his senior year and ended up joining his college track team! Now he throws javelin and loves it. He’s come back and said he probably wouldn’t have done it if he had been playing sports his whole life and burned out like so many of his friends did.
In the end it’s a family decision and I think the way you’re going about it is really wise.

The only holiday baskets/gifts we do other than Christmas is Easter baskets but we try to keep it super minimal and mostly stuff she needs or books, and a chocolate bunny. For Christmas and birthdays we ask that if anyone wants to get her a present to either donate to a charity or do an experience gift.

Love your stuff. Just want to say that I have 4 kids and there is a huge and noticeable difference between my two kids who played a team sport and my two who did not. They have way more confidence and are far more adaptable than the two who didnt. Just my experience so far. City leagues are super affordable

This I agree with. My husband and my brothers played sports. There is a huge difference. They all continue to have body awareness, confidence, grit and are still all in shape. I am the vocalist and book reader. I want my kids to join sport teams if they show interest, at least for a few years.

I totally agree with not just signing your kid up for sports because you want them to do it. I grew up in athlete and I loved it a lot, and I have prayed for the day that I get to watch my boys play as well. Are now 11-year-old played sports through local organizations when he was about four and he took about 6 years off. He wasn't interested in playing and even though it broke my heart, we did not force him. Because it would have been for our enjoyment and not his. We moved States and he made some friends here and saw how active those kids were and came to us and has now played every sport since we have been here. The only downside to this, is that these kids have been playing their whole lives in our son is still beginning to learn a lot of the game. So while his friends are on better teams our son really isn't. And it shouldn't be like that being a small town, but you know that's just how it goes. So I've kind of learned to gracefully be quiet and as long as he's having fun then that's all that matters ❤

Beautycounter is not clean product, it does contain harmful chemicals, like mica, tocopherol, dimethicone, titanium dioxide and so on.
