I watched this video about 9 years ago. I went and bought the first CC 4x4 2011 F150 to hit the lot in my town when they were released. That truck now has 320,000 miles on it and going stronger than the day I bought it. It's been running a livernois tune for years and years without a problem. I'd recommend one to anyone who needs a half ton. It's been used and abused. It's towed well over 100,000 of it's miles with trailers over 12,000 lbs at times. It's a monster. If I didn't need to tow heavier then it would be the only truck I had.

That’s good to know!! I just picked up a 2020 Raptor. This thing is for sure a beast. I had a 2014 Raptor that I put a 156k Miles on without am problems. This new truck is way way faster, lighter and obviously nicer. It’s great seeing what the new trucks from Ford are capable of. I am looking forward to many miles behind this wheel of this one too.

That’s so awesome man. What’s your opinion on their newer f150s? I’ve read that their durability is questionable, and you have much more experience than I do with trucks so I’m curious what your thoughts are on the new f150s

    • @boduke9428

@@thajuiceislooose1183 I don't think there is a bad engine choice available in them. I love a good V8 rumble as much as anyone but I haven't had one in a F150 since I bought that first EcoBoost. My advice to anyone now that's in the market is get the hybrid Powerboost option regardless of what trim level you choose. It's been more convenient than I'd ever imagined. We do lots of quad and SxS riding and now use it as a tow pig over my Superduty when possible. It's so much more convenient than even the quietest generator camping plus it'll run you're house in an emergency. It's the perfect use of electricity in a pickup in my opinion.

I'm sure they maintained the hell out of this engine during these tests. Maintenance is the key. Any vehicle requires maintenance. If you run it hard... maintain it hard. If you run it easy... standard maintenance will do. Either way just learn your vehicle and how best to maintain it. That's the real answer.

My family and I had a 2003 Ford Expedition (5.4L Triton V-8) and after 14 years and 220,000 miles, we just wanted to replace her. I was hesitant to purchase a replacement expedition due to the Eco-boost being a v-6. I thought, "that's a big vehicle to move with a V-6". So, we did a test drive and oh boy was I wrong. Our 2016 Expedition is outstanding and nobody is ready for the power that it produces. We go to the river, pull our boat and otherwise use it like any other vehicle and whether we're pulling our boat, entering the freeway or just passing another vehicle, we are amazed. We recently took a road trip to Sedona, Az. and I'm not used to driving it since it's my wife's primary vehicle, but this trip I was again reminded what a fantastic handling vehicle our Expedition is. We treat our vehicles well and while we keep them for many year and high miles, we watch as friends replace their Suburban's and Tahoe's at around the 100,000 mile mark because of reliability issues. I don't describe myself as a hater of all others, but I do love my Ford's, including my 2015 Mustang GT. Oh, and I also love Porsche's :).

I have an 2011 with 60K, I pull a 7,000lb Travel Trailer. Closer to 7500lb when loaded with our stuff. This motor is amazing. When towing the shift points are still around 2500rpm. Feels like it is shifting way to early but it keeps pulling and accelerating with ease. As far as MPG go all 1/2 ton trucks are the same. I just like the fact that this truck does not have to struggle to pull what I need it to. I can sit back and relax while pulling on the highway. Put new plugs in at 45k. Ford did a repair on a cold start rattle issue at 50k. It does what I need it to.

205k miles on my 2013 and it’s been tuned and driven hard for all of it, I blew the stock turbos at 165k mikes with full intention of upgrading when I got the truck, replaced timing chain and phasers at 200k and plugs every 60k, which was only due to the higher HP and the way I drive it. Other than that no problems, I traded in my 1st gen Raptor for my 13 eco boost bc of theses videos and my EB will run circles around the raptor, I’ve got my eye on the new raptor bc it’s has the EB but I love my 6 speed for the gearing. It's been a good truck except for a few minor issues, but l know the motor would never be able to stand up to fords torture test of the ecoboost. I know and accept the fact that Ford builds the tougher animal, as much as l hate to admit it. I know my trucks limit. Last nail on the coffin? I was a body and frame repairman for 33 plus years. Before that l was a mechanic. Up until 87 chevy had a very weak frame , to top it all off the steering gearbox was mounted on the front frame horn. Man you talk about trying to get the steering back on track, forget it. It was a nightmare.

240,000 on my 2012 3.5 ecoboost. I bought this truck new and it is hands down the best engine I've ever owned. Only maintain oil and plugs. It still runs strong and can tow just about anything I throw at it... too bad the body is going because my state uses salt and I live on a dirt road. I am convinced the body will go before the engine. My next truck will be a Ford 3.5 ecoboost.

I actually looked at the torn-down engine at the Detroit Auto Show, and the intake valves were pretty clean. That much I expected; all the tests they did on the engine were at high power output, so the valves would have been hot enough to keep the carbon burned off. Intake valve carboning occurs more on engines that aren't run hard.

Ford also does a lot of their testing with van services that go from the Denver or Gunnison to ski resorts. I have been on many trips to ski in Colorado and watched Ford vans sit near redline, fully loaded, all the way up the mountain, and then, all the way down the mountain, at redline, in lower gears, to save the brakes. One van service that I used said that Ford does all of the fluid changes on their vans and gives the vans a new engine and transmission at $150K and the van service then sells that van to a ski service located in the Andes in South America. Ford then disasembles the engine and looks for all of the wear points. Knowing that those motors and transmissions can take that kind of abuse for 150K miles is the one of the reasons that I'm a Ford truck guy.

As an actual owner of a 3.5 Ecoboost 2013 FX4 I must speak up after finding and watching this video. Referencing my own experience I cannot concur with all of the conclusions and results of these "tests". Transparency is greatly lacking here. How many times were the exhause manifold gaskets/studs broken and changed? Exhaust manifolds changed? Were the manifolds warped at final disassembly? How did you avoid timing chain stretch/failure? When did the engine ever begin to overheat? How many times did it go into reduced power mode during towing and around the track? These are the areas and things real world owners are experiencing during daily use. I personally have experienced poor towing ability on a relatively flat interstate. Overheating to the point of reduced power mode with an empty trailer. Both exhaust manifolds warping at 80,000 miles breaking off the rear most exhaust studs as a result. VVT solenoid failure at 100,000 miles ultimately leading to poor performance and drivability. Timing chain stretch 100,000 to 123,000 where timing would be off and place the engine in limp home mode daily cutting the turbochargers off completely. I have corrected all of these listed items personally in my 3.5 Ecoboost and visually confirmed each failure myself before repair. When I see these claims I must speak up with my actual experience because it varies greatly from what I received so far.

Too bad about your problems with the engine, I don’t think the problems with the engine performance has anything to do with the brake booster tho. Maybe some maintenance would help in your situation, there are 99% of people that haven’t had problems like that with their trucks
But with the five oh you will need to keep plenty of extra oil handy, they like to use a lot. And don’t worry about the engine clatter in those 5.0, ford says it’s normal🤪😖

This engine was so tough, in 2017 they had to do a complete re-haul 🤣

@@GoBirds802 considering that the the new generation was done for the 2015 and the 2017 was still part of that generation I'd say your ownership was questionable. I have a 2015 3.5 with 90k miles and still no issues except the auto running boards.

@@proverbs2life Ford calls this EcoBoost “all new,” and indeed it carries over only the old engine’s bore center dimension, piston displacement, and cylinder liners. The block is new, the turbos are new, the cooling system (which features new flow paths and a higher-volume, higher-rate water pump) is new, and the fuel-delivery system now employs both direct and port injectors for improved emissions and more power. Copy pasta for you.

The host forgot about the Nissan Titan. It's a solid truck as well. Also, I've noticed that he didn't say how many oil changes they did to the truck. Nor did he specify what type of oil (traditional or synthetic) or what brand was used during each service.

I'll stick with my 94 f150 with the 300 inline 6 and a 5-speed because it'll still be rolling down the Highway 30 years from now.. .

I read 85% of the 2011 Ecoboosts are still on the road today, 13 years later.

The competition at the time ram and Silverado were complete GARBAGE I’ve owned an 11’ eco f150 before and don’t regret it. Awesome concept awesome power nothing came close at the time. Turbos are a curse and a blessing but maintain them and they can go a long time not forever but I’d take this truck over the competition at the time any day of the week it wasn’t even fair.

Ok it is now Aug 17, 2020. I bought my 2011 F150 Crewcab 3.5L Ecoboost in November 2011 and I have not looked back. Sure there was a recall on two parts on it and Ford replaced the faulty parts relatively quick and for free. I forget what it was but had to do with the braking system if I recall (no pun intended). I STILL own my truck and save for some cosmetic damage this truck still runs like new. I pulled a bucket truck with it, a fully loaded chipper and trailer and even helped pull my friends trailer loaded with 12,000 lbs of scrap iron with this BEAST! I was going to give it to my step-daughter when I passed but after a falling out, the truck is now going to be passed to my fiancee. I recently bought a travel trailer and currently loading it for a move to a new home. Truth be told, I would not buy a new truck. The new auto shut off features of Ford is not the best option in my opinion. Glad my 2011 does not have that feature. Besides the 2 recalls and regular oil changes, air filters, and tires, I have no complaints. I love My (even tho the misses calls it "Hers" lol) Truck! 65k and still going strong! The Main reason I bought my truck was because of these torture test videos. Thank You Ford.

No mention of the transmission or how many they went through? I wonder what else failed that they are telling us like the cooling system electrical system. I’m a fan of Ford so I’m just wondering why they leave out all that stuff
