Splitting BIG Rounds! ( Fiskars X27 )
- March 2022 update: the axe handle is still in nearly new condition after 5yrs of using this technique. I now flick my wrist at the end of each splitting stroke, which increases the splitting power tremendously and keeps the axe handle from hitting the log round.
Hope this video helps you get the job done faster and saves your back. Cheers! -
He is more with the axe accurate than me trying hit meatballs in my plate.
LOL
Love that chain idea. Works pretty slick
I’ve got an old car tire screwed to my chopping logs you could put lots ofsmaller in there and shop
Nice job, you got a really precise swing.
Good video - like the chain/bungee use. Saves energy for sure!
I was looking at that too!
That's how you destroy a coffe table..Joking, i would love to do this also. Great job.
The chain around the log is a great idea
Xxsb
Holy crap. Thought you weren’t going to stop until you had chop sticks
Toothpick anyone? Damn he destroyed that stump
That was frickin' impressive accuracy! Bravo, brother. Next beer is on me!
Cheers buddy🍻
Just like that, the simplest and the best
like a machine...
2 more hits and you make matches😁😁
Nicely done
Today i ordered my Fiskars X27.
I had to decide between a 4-5kg splitting maul and this splitting axe. I prefered the Fiskars axe, because of the long handle (96 cm) and the weight of 2,6 kg. It has enough power, but also a great accuracy.
Mr. Unknown like the way these axes don’t get stuck in the wood like traditional axes
First MAN who doesn't try to talk that wood to peaches💪👍🤘👏👌
Great idea! Better than a tire.
Wow, what a smart solution man. I am giving it a try myself next week end...
Thanks! Here is a quick improvement to my splitting method you might try as well: ruclips.net/video/JYA2NIn9sww/видео.html
Happy splitting!
keep the chain attached at the end, and move the whole split round at once. that's a big one, so it might be difficult depending on a few things, but on medium rounds it saves a lot of stacking time.
I'm with ya, this one was just too heavy for that
So satisfying to watch :) Gotta buy a X27 and chop away...
Nice job
The wood splits easy because it is frozen, it is the chain and tarp strap that is the focus.
I'm glad I found your videos! I recently started splitting wood and I'm down here in SW Arizona. We have a lot of ironwood out here and some type of wood that smells like popcorn when it is burned.
How is that wood in the video splitting so quickly?
Is it just a matter of the wood's density or sharpness of the blade?
A lot of rounds I've gathered are pretty tall, around mid-thigh.
Hi Joshua, the easy splitting is a combo of several things. First, make sure you have a solid base that doesn't absorb Any force from a strike on the log. For me, that's frozen ground. I split exactly where the weakness in the grain of the wood is. I keep my axe shaving sharp. It helps to have dry wood and cold temps (the colder, the more brittle the wood becomes). Also, I'm splitting sitka spruce which is pretty soft. 27lb/ft3. Good luck with that ironwood!
letting iron wood get dry will make it harder to split, some wood may split better dry but most does not believe me i cut plenty every year. the colder the better it splits as mark said.
Some wood like beech splits a lot easier if it is still fresh(green) and not dry
BRAVO!!
Amazing way to process wood. I'm new to it all, how long did it take you to get to this level? Great video
Thanks! When I made this video I had been splitting firewood for a couple years already. You should checkout my recent video with my improved technique and method. Make sure to read the video description in the link for some key tips:

Hope it helps you!
Happy Splitting,
Mark
Nice one!
Thanks!
F ing STUDLY!!!!!! You destroyed THAT,,,,😲😲😲👍
Thanks my man!
Good 💪🏻💪🏻
Satisfying
Wish I had your precision!
Practice Practice Practice Practice it will come
The best fiskars x 27
GJ
Bravo
Spettacolare
Very good, thanks for the video. I have plenty of oakwood slices, fifty inch diameter, up to 15 inch thick , same Fiskars, but that looks like it is too small...
Good luck with those giant rounds!!! Oak is a whole different beast from the spruce I split. On something that large, I would start by flanking the outer edge, popping small pieces off the perimeter first, to get it down to a more manageable size.
@@SeekingSnow will try the next time
You know wood is brittle when it splits from being hit with just the axe handle (:41)
If the handle had been made of wood it would have made it about half way around!
I did like the chain and bungee cord.
clever
Très efficace
I found the over strikes kinda difficult to watch, even tho Fiskars has a lifetime warranty, and I just bought one. I just think its a bad habit, and if you were to switch to a wood handled axe, in my opinion its a matter of when you smack the handle, not if. Mark, keep making videos and have a great day.
Axe sharp
Making wood chips there are ya big guy!!
so the x27 and x17 are great combos to have
I'd say they are too.
Cool!!
Thanks
What kind of wood is this oak, pine ? Soft or hard wood ? Very good job
Thanks! It's Sitka Spruce.
Mark Walters soft wood or hard wood it seems soft wood
Nikos, thinking "hard" or "soft" wood is misleading because often times softwoods (monocots) are "harder" - more dense - than certain "hardwoods"(dicots). Instead think of the wood density of the tree species. Sitka would be considered soft but has density (hardness) greater than certain Willow species, which is considered "hard." Hope this helps and good luck with your wood splitting this winter 👍
dobro sjeckanje
This must be the stump he wanted to use for his kindling pile
Thanks!
Good xxxx❤❤❤❤❤
Nice kindling
Thanks
Surgical splitting sir. Real nice.
Thanks!
Fiskars best ax in world.
Straight grainers be like
wtf ive never seen such a log as that split so easily
It was a nice straight grained section and a little dry rotted in the center.
What kind of wood is it so soft?
Sitka Spruce
👍👍👍
Overs strike after over strike it hurts to watch
The polymer handle is indestructible, don't worry.

DanGer Zone
which kind of wood is that? thanks :D
michele colombo Hi Michele, it is sitka spruce
One of the worst kind of wood.
Butter Wood .. soft as butter lol
why the chain?
X27? X25? Hangisini almalıyız?
The only difference is the length of the handle. If you are less than 6ft(185cm) tall, get the X25, if you are taller than 6ft get the X27.
Good luck with your splitting!
Hitting the inside of the handle every hit :O You should cut from the outside so you don't shock your hands
The handle is cutting pretty well tho...
Es el filo original?
No, lo hice
👍👍👏👏👏👏
Thanks
Nice. Next to the car. Hahaha
I need to get some of that wood that splits when you breathe on it, lol.
It makes the process nice and easy for sure😉
yeaaaahhhhhh!!!! now burn it!!!
What a huge pizza woods
Title should be how to make kindling ! Also you mash up the axe shaft & eventually break the head off the axe like this
It all depends. On many woodstoves in Europe the firebox is very small. I have to chop all my wood that size.
Yeah, seems to be a very strong handle.
The handle is still almost like new after splitting 3yrs worth of firewood. I wouldn't split wood with this method without a synthetic stock handle though.
Damn he must have a small ass stove
🤣 yeah it's pretty small. I've got a Jøtul F602
That's a whole lot of work for absolutely no reason whatsoever, and that wood is beyond dry.
Wait.... what?
it all depends. Many, if not most woodstoves in Europe have a very small firebox. I chop all my wood this size. People actually cook on them in the kitchen.
What he doing? Matches.
I have a pretty small stove😉
👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
You realy don't giva a fuck with this handle ;)
Say goodbye to your axe handle if you keep doing it this way.
How to make toothpicks
Nice to see how to cut wood
Me facilito la vida amigo jjaja
Bueno! Y Buena suerte con su madera partida!
yeah, I wish I had birch. It would split a little differently than this soft wood ;)
Malades mujik
this guy was brilliant
Doesn't anyone get it broken? By hand!
I can see why you don't use a wood handle.
Wood needs to be higher, seems to be very soft wood,🇮🇪🇮🇪
Nice plastic gerber axe
