Let's talk about Ragnarök. Finally. The end of the world in Norse Mythology: The Endgame of the Norse Gods. Everybody features here, Thor, Odin, Heimdall... but none more than Loki, who really is the centerpiece of Ragnarök. Some see Loki as this evil guy who is responsible for ending it all, but if Loki is a monster, then he is only a monster in the same sense that Frankenstein's monster is: A monster nurtured by its circumstances, and in this case... those circumstance are just one man's actions: Odin's actions. Odin built the 'evil' Loki we know, it was the All Father who turned Ragnarök into a self-fulfilling prophecy, but... I'm getting ahead of myself. You'll hear all about that and more in the video Who fights who during Ragnarök? How does Loki assemble his army? Why does Loki even do what he does? I explain it all in this final episode of Keeping Up With The Norse Gods:
Episode VIII Of Keeping Up With The Norse Gods - The End: Ragnarök
Subscribe For New Episodes Every Saturday & Wednesday
Notes:
If you read my notes every video, then you already know that Norse Mythology is a mess, but.. nothing is more of a mess than Ragnarök. You'd think that for the end of the world, it would be more documented, but the issue is... technically Ragnarök hasn't happened yet. All we know about Ragnarök is from visions of what is to come, and that means... boy was it ever hard to spin a coherent story for this one. I did my best though and try to bring Ragnarök to you as if it had happened - from the spark of bad blood between Odin and Loki, to Loki assembling an army around him and his children, all the way to the mighty fire giant Surtur. So... just keep in mind that the ancient texts never take it as far as I do in this video, and that I certainly embellished to fill a lot of gaps in this one. That being said, everything I state is still factually sound and researched - I think you can tell when and where I filled in gaps to weave a story that you can sit back and enjoy.
Get All My Artwork & Support The Channel:
I get a lot of questions about my artwork and where it’s from or rather who draws it. Well the answer is that I create it - I don’t draw it. I use AI to create the artwork, using specific prompts, specific style influences from 18th and 19th century artists, and I spend about 6 hours per video just on the artwork. Each video has roughly double the artwork of what you actually see in the video, so a lot of it is unused. The good news here though is that you can get all that artwork on my Patreon - the artwork I do use, and the artwork I don’t use. Plus, by subscribing to my Patreon you are making a major contribution to Briefed and helping me to keep this channel going, because this is my full time job and the survival of the channel and quality of the videos greatly depends on said support. In return for supporting, you get more than the artwork though - you also get exclusive videos and producer credit, as well as access to a producer group that gets to vote on thumbnails, gets behind the scenes etc.
If you choose to become a Patron - thank you. I do not take it for granted.

Sources:
Usually in this part I talk about my sources, but you can refer to my other descriptions for that - it's always the same text. Today though... I had a thought: I want to write a 'fiction'-inspired by mythology book about Norse Mythology. Think Percy Jackson, but... more mature and more mythologically accurate. A book that tells the tales of the gods akin to Game of Thrones, with several lead characters, and culminates in Ragnarök.
If only I had the time... let's see what happens.

I have Multiple Sclerosis and have been very sick recently, and your videos have helped to take my mind off of it. Can't wait to watch more! Excellent job!
thank you for letting me know - that made my day. I'm happy I was able to get your mind off the troubles with the videos 🫡
For a channel with just 40k subs this has no business being so good. Cant wait to binge your videos.
thank you 🥹, really appreciate it 😊
I love the way you tell these stories
thank you 😊
It seems like Odin's quest to prevent Ragnarok ultimately solidified that it would happen??
Can't wait for the next series!
That's how prophecy works
It's not self-fulfilling prophecy. It is clear from the myths that the legitimacy of Odin's reign is false from the beginning. Founded in blood, violence, and a betrayal of the original order of things, Loki is just the "bad conscience" of that fact. Loki (like the devil) is the excuse for why bad things happen despite the supposed all-power or high power of "the people in charge." Whatever Loki's monstrousness, it is clear (clearly in the Loki video) that Odin and his regime is the real monster. So it's no wonder he has "visions" of his end; once again, the bad conscience. (It's not a coincidence, of course, that Prometheus plays a similar role in the Greek myths, and is chained to a rock and tortured; this may also be because the Norse and Greek mythologies have the same root. ... It's the same kind of myth structure that settler-colonialists tell about teh people they enslave or dispossess.
@@dillhouston Or it's kind of like in the play Macbeth where he completely believed the fabrication of the witch's prophecy and tried to take it into his own hands, leading to his downfall. As a result of the vision/prophecy, Odin probably tried to do everything to, in this case, prevent it, not realising that he was only just completing it. Once again it's that whole argument of fate vs free will.
I think to break prophecy would be to do nothing see if that does anything if it does then do the opposite of what you would originally do that is if thats also a part of the prophecy then idk give a little do a little to test it🤷🏾
The Norns had warned Óðinn that his fate cannot be avoided, for it is destined. So, Óðinn already knew he couldn't, yet tried anyway, and had created a new son in the process named a Váli the Avenger of Baldr, who among a few gods, including Thors 2 sons and Viðarr who survived Ragnarök, and Óðinns beloved son Baldr was reborn.
Your videos have been my go-to for the past 36 hours. I am very impressed with your pronunciation skills and would love to see you delve into the world of Egyptian mythology. It would be an absolute treat! And well done with all the pronunciations!

thanks for watching 😊
My favorite new channel
Is it bad that when you said with the family reunited on their toenail ship, I imagined that scene where all three kids are in the back of the car fighting?
“Dad! Fenrir’s touching me!”
“Hel’s in my spot!”
“Jormungund’s picking on me!”
And Loki is like: “I will turn this toenail ship around so help!”
😂
no, exactly the visual I had in my head.
Dude you're awesome, the norse series was great! Keep up with your dope content man. You're becoming my favorite RUclipsr
thank you Lukas. I'm glad you enjoyed it. more to come 🫡
Been waiting😭😭so excited
So excited for this new series
Love the videos!!
Fantastic series on one of my favourite topics. Thank you so much!
I literally just finished watching your Odin video😂
Baldur the resurrected becomes the one great beloved light and Nidhogg the gnawing dragon at the roots of the world tree becomes the ultimate evil. Life became a battle of good vs evil rather than the selfish whims of the Gods.
Amazing! Keep it up...❤
Can't wait for the new series...also could you continue with the Greek gods please. Your videos are awsome
Great work man! Thanks for the entertaining series of my favourite mythology stories with your own humorous touches.

ah man. thanks brother. I appreciate the notification. look for it every Saturday 🫡
Each and every god and creature in Norse Mythology represents something; Óðinn being war, death, sorcery, and wisdom, who traveled the cosmos for more knowledge and keeping the comsos in balance between good and chaos.
I think I speak for everyone when I say, we've been waiting on this one
Such a full circle moment this video. All the details from the previous videos adding up. I LOVE IT !!!!!!! Excited for the next seriesssss🥳

Another great video
That casual school joke made me lol. I see our sense of humor is similar.
could you please consider doing series on tuatha de danann in the future? i would love to watch your rendition of that myths
Amazing series! I loved it. As a huge fan of Norse mythology I can't commend you enough. I also loved your pronunciation of the names. Are you living in a Scandinavian or Germanic country?
thank you for the praise and the support. really appreciate it. yup, I was born in Germany - though I live in Mexico currently
Loki's 'Family and the Gang' is hella GoW Ragnarok tbh with the context of Kratos and well... the gang. XD
Not gonna lie... The idea of skeeting fire giant seeds everywhere made me laugh
I know you said that Keeping up with the Norse Gods is finished but are you still going to tell the stories of the Greeks? I love your videos and I just wanted to know if you would continue keeping up with the Greek Gods
yup, keeping up with the greek gods is faaaaaaaar from finished. that one's gonna go on for a while haha
@@Briefed_Mythology thank you for the update. Hope you are having a nice day
the snake drips acid on loki's face
The Tyr note would also make sense of the fact he has a day named after him but Odin doesn't.
Odin does have a day, Wednesday or Wodinsday, Wodin being a different form of Odin.
Bro, Bro. Cyrus, when brother. Thank you for all your work, how the hell I not find your channel year ago?! Yo. Literally outside of semi tires, I read history I watch history I didn't know how badass mythology, es. Thank you again I will be apart of Patreon soon. My baby son is getting big n little tight financially. Appreciate this channel the artwork, truly amazing
Cant wait to hear about Genghis Khan from Daddy Briefed
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Great stuff. Do the Egyptian gods soon.
Merci beaucoup ! C’est super intéressant! Je t’embrasse depuis la Martinique ❤
Here's a suggestion for another Series. "Keeping Up With The Japanese Kami" series talking about the Japanese pantheon.
Please cover the goddess Nyxx king sparkles was terrified of her.
Surtur, we need you to come... *pause* ...okay, I could have phrased that better.
Bro that was the best ending to a video series/story ever told!!! Hats off to you brother for your ability to not only remind us of the ancestors that used to walk this plane, but to captivate us and paint the picture in our minds so clearly, we can watch it as though it is a memory rather than mythology. Thank you for the humor along the way as well. I think that a lot of historians forget to add the humor to certain events or characters because of their symbolism, in turn that disconnects us from the gods of old and instead of history their stories become mythology. Like when Loki married off Thor lol bro that shit is funny and you know Thor was probably rolling as soon as they handed him his hammer. You already know Loki laughed over most of the shit he did, hell Heimdall had a front row seat for all that fuckary lol. So thank you Sir for the journey you take us all on each time we gather round the fire for story time. I truly hope you are rewarded both physically and spiritually for what you do.
Many blessings to you dear Great One, for I recognize my old friend,
Thoth, when I see him.
And one last thing, I have to ask , how did you learn to pronounce all the old Norse words so well? The pronunciation, the accent, the rolling of the tongue, all of it spot on!
Again thank you and I look forward to the next video. Would you be down to sift through and sort out the Egyptian gods and stories at some point???
wow, what a beautiful comment. thank you so much. that made me very happy to read. seriously, thanks.
as for the pronunciation, I honestly just type the words/names into google translator, then try to just copy how google translate says them in Icelandic haha. and, yes definitely down to tackle egyptian mythology. it will be the next rabbit hole after I covered history's conquerors
"..but she did... What she did" hahahaha 😂
This series is AMAZING... if its not too much to ask, go do a little digging on Yoruba mythology. Its just as freaky and I bet you'll get loads of info that other YT guys cant. Think about it man, a lot of people wanna know about Sango and Orunmila, Osun, Oya, Esu, all that good stuff.
yup, I'm definitely planning that and looking forward to digging into the topic
