    What sucks in the X series is that you have to remove the motherboard to access the CPU.This process is much simpler in a T series model.

    • @BTA_KeepItFun

      One year later answer: something I had laying around. Would say Noctua paste but does not look like it... Even cheaper pastes are good to go, just does not last as long before starting to dry (my own experience)

    Too bad Ivy bridge doesn't support undervolting. It heating up to 50 C on idle, then fan turns on.

  • @kriegtotengraber8528
    @kriegtotengraber8528 4 года назад

    Awesome tutorial, but only one thing may false. The PCH shall not be covered by any thermal pad which connect with thermal tube. The CPU can hold even 100 degree C, but PCH max may only hold 70. It can be heated by the CPU through the tube, so the original design don’t wanna this happened. Some people use thermal glue with copper thermal sink to upgrade it, that’s fine. But don’t connect with CPU’s tube.

    • @BTA_KeepItFun
      @BTA_KeepItFun  4 года назад

      I'm a bit confused what do you mean, maybe tell me where I did wrong If so? I'm quite sure I did not add anything more than new thermal paste and used those old pads.

    • @miker.5495
      @miker.5495 Год назад

      @BTA - KeepItFun My PCH didn't have a pad at all, or maybe it did and it was dried up, so it resembled old thermal paste. I just put thermal paste on the PCH as well as the CPU. Guessing that's wrong?

  • @joshjavier7910
    @joshjavier7910 4 года назад

    Thanks for the quick tutorial. :) In 1:44, did you use a microfiber cloth to clean the CPU? Doesn't that increase the chances of static shock damaging it?

    • @TaijiArban

      I have heard of that being the case sometimes but I have seen many people use microfiber without any issues. I still do it the old fashion way with coffee filters and 99% alcohol :D

    I'm just wondering what the black plastic on the motherboard is for? Doesn't it increase heat on certain components?

    • @BTA_KeepItFun
      @BTA_KeepItFun  7 лет назад +1

      To cover it i suppose. Protecting from shorting most likely.

    • @mattotto9949
      @mattotto9949 7 лет назад

      I'd think that too to be logical. But from what I can see is the laptop is mostly made from plastic. Here's a counter example though. I have a Lenovo Y50, full metal chassis, but it doesn't have the plastic. Honestly I'm just inherently curious why they would do that to your specific model.

    • @superwolf95
      @superwolf95 7 лет назад +6

      the thinkpad X, T and W series have a spillproof keyboard, there are drain holes in it with tubes going over the motherboard and out of the laptop down the chassis, i think the plastic is to avoid water particles on the mobo in case something goes wrong, and to protect from other kind of possible shorts.
      just another security to call them premium

      @@dspec126 If it's the same as the x220 you can take out 4 screws to remove the top lid that holds the display. It makes the job easy.

    Has anyone done testing to compare stock (old) thermal paste performance to using fresh paste.

    • @BTA_KeepItFun
      @BTA_KeepItFun  4 года назад +1

      Ye. The answer for that sadly does not exist. Many variables. Gf's casual internet laptop temps dropped from 75-80s to 50-60 celsius. Brothers new gaming laptop from stock to liquid metal dropped -15 celsius on max load. Now hes having some problems with throttlestop/temps so that'll Be revisited. Good thing is that most new laptops come with better and better thermal compounds :)

  • @datdang9113

    what is your cpu temperature after using the new paste, I use MX4 but still get 60 degrees idle and 80 degrees in benchmark, stress tests

    • @datdang9113
      @datdang9113 5 лет назад

      could applying too much thermal paste also result into overheating?

    • @BTA_KeepItFun
      @BTA_KeepItFun  5 лет назад

      I dont recall but 10-15'C Drop. I think you should do it again and clean properly before applying. You really dont need much. Applying too much will have negative effect. When putting it back together tighten all The screws evenly. (There might be order labeled with numbers to follow or not)..

    • @yes_man_lol
      @yes_man_lol 5 лет назад

      It could be your fan is slow, try order a new fan or a new heat sink with a new fan.
      If the fan is dying, it does not matter how good the thermal paste.
