Its actually simple. Just copy the original layer and drag it on the top. Create a mask, draw a Linear black to white Gradient across and then adjust the opacity of the layer to your preference. That should do it.... Cheers

Make a copy of the layer and change its mode to multiply. Use mask and/or opacity to play with settings..
